@02Rone I would never say anyone is better than Steve.. but Jimi is one of the few that could have probably sung Steve Perry songs as well as Steve. His range was that good... absolutely amazing. Between Steve, Jimi and Lou Gramm, it just might be a toss up on flawless vocal control at such a high range. These guys were gifted like few others have ever been... then or since.

Fortunately, I got to see Jimi+Survivor thrice (and thoroughly rocked out to those gigs)....but I actually walked out on Robin's first tour (in 2006) not even halfway through since he was damn hyperactive majorette with the mike stand!

Just to add to the vocal fatigue comments... Survivor's songs are some of the hardest rock songs to sing for a vocalist especially night after night. Unfortunately Jimi did himself no favors by smoking for years (I saw him light up before going onstage in 2008 even!) as it cuts down on the breath support and really makes for inconsistent results. I think this is a fine performance of this song though and he really hits his stride after the bridge... Survivor was a great band!

Nobody has a range like Jimi and when you say "no sweat", I am quite certain that you are completely tonedeaf. Another clue is that really great singers are keenly aware of their talent. Bad singers always say that other people tell them they can sing. Not even trying to be mean.. but I can guarantee you don't have 1/10 of this guys talent.

@ComplexMissy You nailed it down perfectly; and better than anyone I have seen. I have been a smoker for years and I always struggled with my voice going out. These songs were the tunes we were doing hot off the charts back in the 80's and even though we were just cover bands, you have the same scenario and responsibilities to the songs. Smoking ruins beautiful voices, and I honestly did use to have one. Now I don't have enough of a diaphragm to sing long without my voice just flat going out.
