I came out in my athletics club, Dunfermline and West Fife AC (name and shame). They treated me like I was a monster and even went as far as to tell people I was a paedophile. I'm no longer ashamed of it, but I attempted suicide on numerous occasions and eventually decided I needed medical help. I guess I wasn't able to cope with it on my own any more... It's amazing how a witch hunt can begin within a couple of days, especially when you thought of them as a second family...

The point rarely made - except by masculine gay men to each other - is that the reason these guys find it so difficult to come out is the effeminate image which still hangs around male homosexuality. Very few men are born camp - they get into a habit of it when they hit the scene. In the process they lose what is most charming and natural about themselves, and further ensure that young men coming to terms with their sexuality continue to find the process painful and difficult.

@gayissimo86 I think it will change eventually but it will be years before it gets anywhere near being accepted 100% into society. There are numerous gay footballers but will not come out because of the way people see football as a straight mans game just like any sport. Until more gay guys take an interest in sports more then I can't see it changing soon.
