  • The artist is bump?

  • Cutting with EQ is better for phase relations. Just saying.

  • @undersoundz did not like this TUT ... After studying mixing mastering one thing I have learned overtime is never go by an EQ TUT since all sounds will be different . Also boosting where the baseline will sit is a bad idea .

  • great tutorial : )

  • How do you rout more sounds to one channel?

  • @MrDaZe5 Press F1

  • love it man thank you! I understand analog gear and your tutorials are very helpful! good

  • What is the key command to narrow the frequency arch? I don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel.

  • @MrDBoi69 Click and hold the little square and drag up or down to change the width.

  • @dronehymns That only moves it up and down. How do you make the arch narrow? pointy, slim, skinny, sleek.

  • @MrDBoi69 The squares I refer to can be found on the colored tabs at the upper left corner of the window. They're right below the diamond shaped symbols and above the sliders. I hope that helps.

  • If you want a real kick, don't EQ like this.

Firstly, raising levels this much with EQ is usually a bad idea. You should really only CUT OUT frequencies with EQ.

Typically you want to cut the very low, mid, and very high freqs, leaving lots of low, and some high. There are a bunch of tutorials on this on youtube.

this kick is EQ'd how I just described: soundcloud(dot)com/shambletrain/sunflower

  • @verduras yes! agree

  • how do i narrow the arches if i have no scroll wheel? I use the logitech ball mouse

  • @TravisTinkle one of the parameters on the right side on the bottom does the same thing as scroll wheel. you can also link this nob to a controller like anything else :)

  • Awesome man!! Helpful tips! :D

  • Don't do this to ur kicks please. They will sound like a beach ball. Boost at around 50 hz and cut at 160 hz and 300 hz to get rid of the mud. Cut again around 1.3khz and boost around 5khz. Ur kicks will sound better in the mix

  • @glict You are SOO much closer than he is.. If you just didnt say cust at 160 and 300.. Boost 50hz 3db, boost 70-100db 2db, cut 400hz 5db and you got that sound with some compression... Of course these are tentative and can be adjusted per kick.

  • @glict I thought the same thing, the thump at 190hz was.. well exactly as your described.. like a beach ball. Secondly it didn't make a lot of sense to me to boost that high in the low mids, where your bass and possibly other instruments will be fighting it out. Though I think it's relative to your kick sample, it still just seems a bad idea to give a 6 - 12 db boost in your low mids for a kick drum.

  • that curve you are talking about is called Q or bandwidth

  • @nfxbeats at 3:50 you use the scroll wheel to narrow the curve. How would you do this if your using a laptop and you dont have a mouse?

  • @SeanBrennanMusic grab the circles to the right of where it say BW on the bottom right to adjust it

  • thanks alot

  • the sound makes it seem more like a tutorial to make your kick sound more electronic than like an actual kick drum. it was still useful; i've actually wondered how people do that.

  • I agree with most of this video, aside from the that you're supposed to use subtractive EQ instead of overboosting (it adds phase delay). I'd attenuate the *other* frequencies, having the "boosted" frequencies sitting at or around 0dB. Just sayin'...

  • First of all thank you for posting these tutorials:

Second I had just a brief thought, it seemed as if you can find those "sweet spots" in the EQ2 from the music-synced lights that pulsed up on the spectrum whenever the kick hit. Again I learned quite alot form the EQ, im glad im more fluent with the plugins I use so often.

  • Did not watch the video, but I saw in the preview he had HQ mode on. I would recommend against this since it causes some delay that FL does not report.

  • What an eye-opener on the importance of eq.

  • i got a few beats to thump to

  • Too dramatic boost. You don't need it more, than +3dB on any band in general. If you overdo it, than it sounds like this - pretty trashy. Do you wanna boom? Just search for another sample in low range layer of your kick. Or compress it badly (high ratio & threshold, short attack, mid or long release), so the tail with all its bottom frequencies will rise up.

  • Wow :o THX!

  • free filter doing same 60hz boom and Q as thump and then u can use Eq for mids and trebles or free filter with 16khz with Q.There is a few tehniques

  • that kick sounds like shit :l

    good tutorial though

  • check out my beat on my chanell , pretty good

  • Lol yeah, at the end of the vid when he like removes the effect n puts it back on I noticed mixer. Was like... mm... why the hell he clippin for. Dude is a newb or just messed up... in a mix this kick would of been ruining allmost any bassline.

Btw for FL's EQ to work u have to "clone" it in the channel... like have 3 eq plugins do the same thing. One aint enough for some reason... will sound alot better with more.

  • At 02:45 when you "roll off" the lower frequency, you still have Parametric EQ2 unchecked in the mixer channel. I don't get it?

  • @ChuChusChannel I'm pretty sure the channel you're seeing isn't the channel that the kick is on. Because every time he changes the EQ on it, it sounds different..

  • @ChuChusChannel lol I noticed that aswell. The kick sounds exactly the same but he's like "" It does'nt remove alot of this frequency" LOL it doesn't remove shit cuz it off hahahaha

  • lol just kidding i stopped it literally right before it showed

  • at 5:50 i don't know if thats fl studio 9 or what but in fl studio 9 in the the parametric eq does it show the frequency as kind of an orangeish redish glow? if show do we want to be in the center of that glow? he says find the frequency but on this video you can't see it and w/ Fl 10 you can please respon

  • @DJhowiedoit The more the orange is darker, the more the frequency is high in that section, so you can look that background(while the song playing) to adjust your notch and everything.. Hope that helped

  • @djozfromquebec when i say high, i mean a lot in the same spot, not as a high frequency*

  • U rock at making tutorials! Definatly one of the best for FL studio!

  • another awesome tutorial from this awesome guy!!!!!

  • And also, your fucking EQing is horrible. DO YOU NOT HEAR THAT RINGING?

  • @ChadLikesGuitars It could be the samples he is using. I have heard some kicks that sounded great, until you solo'd them, and you'd hear ringing..buzzing...even when limited, compressed, and eq'd..i had to eq them, and edit the samples...cut the tail end off...

  • Seriously, no one should listen to this guy. He's fucking clipping the entire time.

  • Thanks man. im using logic pro but your tutorials still help. i like how you dont make it specific to one program. your melody tutorial from like 2008 is great. about to try the guidelines out. thanks

  • cool video thanks

  • i love you dude

    This has change my world

  • check out my channel for instrumentals

  • Are the VST downloads expired? I'd love to download them

  • Very helpful man, thanks :D now I know what exaclty everything is in the Para EQ 2 :3

  • thanks !

  • Turned off-Boom Tschak Boom Boom Tschak

Turned on-Boom Tschak Boom Boom Tschak!

that would be a great track ;)

  • thanks alot very helpfull appreciate it

  • are you allowed to go over +6DB on the EQ. i have been told that i should never go over +6DB. ?

  • 46 people dont deserve Fl studio !

  • That kick sounds like it will make your chest cave in lol. Great tutorial as always.

  • nice tutorial, thank you

  • if i boost my kicks with an EQ like that, the meter on ur mixer slams way up in the red area, the same as in ur vid. a friend told me its best it reduce it around -3 so you will have space for other sounds. so how do i mix a kick pumped up with an EQ like that, without losing that powerfull deep sound ? maybe you can tell me the name of a vid where it's explained or something. hope u can help me out.

  • @LuckyLYP amen

  • @Yuengling8090 why amen haha ?

  • u da man!

  • Good tutorial even i know this trick already =)

for more fun you can right klick on one and choose "create automation clip"

its very funny and you get interessting results if u edit the Curve

    Gretings

    Chris

  • Great tutorial, thanks.

  • This tutorial is long, but you explain well. I learnt alot, you're great! :)

  • @GreenStarMusic Because they are tutorials. He explains in depth what should be done, and unlike 100% of every other tutorial out there that is just some wannabe punk "showing off" things that they do with little to no explanation, this guy gives decent insight behind what you're doing and why you may or may not want to do it.

  • Nice tips ,but every track has his own kick frequency, I learned to start the background & strings, then work on the drums , however all the track must fit together, and for that you need good ears & inspiration :)

  • @GreenStarMusic Yes this tutorial is boring for people who aren't interested.

  • I like your tutorial, however, in mixing I have learned it's better to cut before you boost. If you have been doing this for a very long time, I'd thought you'd at least mention that.

  • why not THOOM ? lmao

  • @RiggyBail lol

  • Put BOOM And THUMP Together And You Get BUMP...Lmao

  • Here is a tip for u nfxbeats, never let your volume go over 0 db...

  • I'm an Ableton user, but this video is really useful for any digital audio producer. I think EQing is one of the hardest things to master and one of the most overlooked aspects of what can push a song from decent to good.

  • @callmephilattitude i dunno, i find it pretty easy, compression is sort of my downfall, its like i get it, but i havnt quite got the hang of it completely, i think it would be easier to explain EQing to someone rather than compression

  • Ahhhh sounded so much better your way with EQ than without! Thanks so much dude, you've helped me out heaps with other videos as well.

  • good tutorial.. thanks ..

  • Nice videos!

  • Another trick: EQ your kicks in octaves. It sounds musically good and makes a good bump

  • yeah this guys is tight man..

    just talks TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

  • Amazing videos. Thank you so much for all your help!

  • your a genius!

  • off

    on

  • Link to VST is dead.

  • your good.......

  • How do i route my channels/sounds to a insert in the mixer?

  • @jjdabaddes when u click on the channel or sound look in the top right and make that box say a number (the number of mixer channel u have effects on for that sound)

  • @jjdabaddes

Click on your sound or channel, then go to the mixer and select the track you want to assign the channel to and hold the Ctrl key then press L... that's it.. it's linked to that mixer track.. or you can do it how Mitchamkyle said and match the FX number to the mixer track you want to use.

  • @jjdabaddes bring up the window for the sound you want, in the top right theres a box, put the channel number in the box you want to sent it to. is that what you were after

  • Good stuff man, i really learned

  • Fl Studio Dirty south-Runners Type Beat free flp-------->>/watch?v=klM15PjGFrQ

  • Your explanation of how to eq is very clear, though I approach my kicks much differently than you do! It's always nice to get another perspective though. I've always found that boosting a kick eats up mad space in a mix, especially with the 120-240hz range, so I am always hesitant to boost in that area. However, different styles yield different approaches! May I suggest using a compressor with a low attack, short release, and gain reduction of about 8-10 db for bringing the attack out? Try it.

  • smexy kick drums = boosts at 3k and 8k and take out some 250 to cut the mud. Definitely for a different style than this video, this would be more for a rock/metal kick

  • Man I love this guy. The tutorials are the shit.

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge, good sir! Cheers! :)

  • another clear video, the only thing i was thinking is that maybe it would be better to do this after you have got everything else in the track down? your kick needs to fit in with the rest of the track, no point mastering the kick without having a reference point? perhaps someone could let me know? thanks:)

  • Boosting around 2khz or boosting near the top end gives the kick a nice crisp sound. Don't kill the top end of the kick or atleast layer the kick with another kick that contains more higher frequencies. It's best to emphasize the frequencies whithin the kick that are hardly present for a fuller sound. There was already a nice thumping low-end to the kick before you started boosting it.

  • I tried this method but I get distortion

  • @mrslideinsideu2

You prolly should turn up your Asio buffer. Dunno if you done it yet but if you dident done it yet:

Options -> Audio settings -> There is a button: Show ASIO panel (When you use Asio4all) -> You can find a buffer length, you should turn it up a little.

Gl and if this wasn't the solution, im sorry :)

    Btw, awesome tutorial again mate!

  • sounds better off

  • oh thanks for the videos

  • hi

  • nice tut bro, greetz a true warbeats costumer!

  • is it me or there is really no display in this video just audio

  • Thanks for the EQ ing tips. I am an avid EQer so I like to remaster my music. I love parametric EQs.

  • great work. thanks for showing us how to do this. ;)

  • Word to THE WIse : If You Wanna Bitch Just Stay OFF YOUTUBE

  • can you link fx a kick into to channels in the mixer?

so i can get even more effects on a sound? :)

  • nfx is a dick head he blocks your IP address on warbeats if you complain or give feedback abotut he website he dont like.

  • @Aaron7338 howcome everyone I meet named Aaron is so talented! lol

  • ive scoured youtube for a simple kick drum eq'ing tutorial and this is definitely the best. and one thing ive noticed about tutorials is the the people usually have annoying voices or just talk a certain way that bothers me, this guy has the best voice which makes it so much easier to watch and follow along

  • is it ok if one of your fx traxs r gonig over -o db butt the master is not. good video

  • Thanks Al Pacino! Very helpful.

  • @carlosdubusm lol

  • Nice Vid, I just bought FL producer yesterday to use with my Sonar X1 Producer.

Your videos' has been a great help for me, please don't pay the haters no mind.

I've also been in this game for over 25 + years.

What is the best way to export a beats Midi data, or wave after completion in FL to another DAW like Sonar? I also have other VST's

(NI Battery & Superior Drummer + some synths VST's) I would like to import into FL, can you help please? Thank you.

  • cool, thanks

  • I love this guys voice hahaha, great tutorials.

  • Thanks man but your kicks are at +2 decibels lol

  • I think I'm in love with you.

  • Thank you so much for this!!

    You're are amazing!

  • You should change yo name to professor Warbeats.... Your a fucking boss at this

  • I love you so much!

  • artist: Bump lol, youtube is so retarted.

  • hey umm i got a question uv got another tutorial about finding the sweet spot of a kick. soo which would i use? this or the other tutorial?

  • @tastetherainbow4321 use them both and your drums will climax all over the track.

  • hey bro, peep my page got some BANGER ASS beats =]

  • thx warbeats!

  • Can u do a vid on how to get drums to sound like "Ruff Riders Anthem" DMX? They have this interesting envelope shape and sound

  • Great tutorial man, finding that punch for my kicks has been one of the things I've struggled on, it seems to be a little mysterious since there's no straight answer, but this helps a lot - I think just watching someone use the EQ and talk through what they are trying to achieve helps more than anything else. Cheers

  • amazing stuff. you really helped me make my kicks more "bumping".

  • This is so helpful, man. Thank you! I've got an old version of FL with the old FL parametric (analog looking) EQ. The percentages are a bit different, but I found that the basic format is the same as far as how the line ends up looking. This is a great help! I'll go to the Warbeats site and check out some stuff. Again, thanks!

  • Wow, the difference is really night and day. Great tut!

  • OMG thanks a lot!

i didn't even end up with something close to what you did (the 2 and the 4 are like right next to eachother at like 100 hz.) but it sounds sooooo much better than it did first!

  • MADE THIS ON FL STUDIO THANKS TO THIS TUTORIAL IT #BUMPS !!!

    soundcloud. com/millzclassics/good-vs-evil-get-them-to-the

  • the "Thump" sounds a bit to much like a bongo, how do i keep that thump without it sounding too in-your-face?

  • love all the vids i even asked a ? and got an answer back love you guys but i was wonder would you guys ever do a tut on say adobe audition

  • Helped alot. Thanks bro!

  • when am I gonna be able to download by 2 drum kits a day??? warbeats.com keep saying I can't download things do to something.

  • WHAT ABOUT 808'???

  • @NewExclusiveHDMusic you idiot...

  • if u guys dont wanna learn anything dont bother watchin these vids

  • TALKIN TALKIN TALKIN :@@@@@@@@@@@

  • when i saw this i was like ok wtf is bumb? nfxbeats: ''bumb is when you put boom and thumb together you are gonna get bumb'' then i was like ok, well.. wtf is boom and thumb?!

  • 1 is not very down :D i have seen it on the left thing

  • If you want EQ your sound in good way then, dont use Software EQ for extreme EQing. Here is the secret Buy a cheap behringer or better mackie Vlz mixer EQ there is much easir and musical, That is real important!

  • oh no its cool just make your dB meters top out. It'll sound awesome.

  • @divutskiDK when your tracks are going into the red parts of the dB meter, you are adding digital distortion. Just turn them down so it barely touches the red zone. The threshold is 0 dB and you want to mix to that level basically.

  • +12 db allright ;/ Ur EQ is off btw xD turn of the little lamp at ur mixer (at start of vid)

  • btw, if you make the kick "bump" it´ll interfer with the subbass. so you can either use a sidechained HP filter or a sidechained compressor.

or you just don´t do such wacky EQing. even Club PAs usually don´t go deeper then 30 hz, so your boost was way too massive. you can´t hear this extreme lowend, it just messes up your mix.

and if you lowcut, then use a -48 db filter, not a 6 db like the one u used.

then use a smaller filter (-12 db) above to smoothen the slope between 30 hz and below.

  • Don't listen to any of the haters on here.FL was a little bewildering to me, until I started watching your tutorials. You do go slowly sometimes, but sometimes it is necessary . There is a lot of show offs on youtube doing tutorials and they go through the steps so quickly that they are of no use to anybody. Keep up the good work

  • You hero, the kick in my dubstep piece i knocked up last night now has more depth and a warmer feel. Thankyou :) Keep up the great tut's

  • 11:36 that curve looks like a cat ^^, nice tutorial

  • Try boosting at ~60hz by 4dB with a wide q, cutting ~400hz 6dB with narrower q and boost ~2.5k 4-8dB with a normal to narrow q. Sure bumps more than this.......

  • uhm, how do you know if your using a 808 kick and where are they in the packs for fl studio?

  • When I start making some real money, You will be getting a big donation. You are doing a service much needed and well appreciated.

  • Come on nfx, how can you post a vid tutorial like this? If new producers are following your techniques then they are starting on a very bad foot!!

  • Wow thats an awful kick sample to start with. I would suggest selecting "bumpin" kick sample before messin it up with ur equaliser..
