All of their songs, even when they released their first album "Slipknot", they were part of the Nu-metal genre boom of the 90's/2000's and so have been called that. They are also referred to as rock, hard rock, and heavy metal; not death metal. There is a difference in death metal and heavy metal/nu-metal. Nu-metal isn't generally slow and snuff isn't considered metal. It's reffered to as rock.
