  • 1967: day-glo posters, incense sticks, other things in the room generating smoke, and this album. The door into a new version of reality. Find another fire!

  • I bought this album about 25 years ago mistaking it for a ZODIAC MINDWARP album. Not a bad mistake to make really.

  • im a aries and this song is makin me mad but i like it lol

  • My brother has this album, when I was a kid we had to listen to it in the dark...I'd forgotten all about it until i found this. Thanks for uploading, its great to hear it again!

  • Makes me wish I had a strobe light and a Nehru jacket!

  • Music Composed,Arranged and Conducted by Mort Garson(Cancer)

    Words by Jacques Wilson(Leo)

    Spoken by Cyrus Faryar(Pisces)

    Electronic Instruments~Paul Beaver(Leo)

    Produced by Alex Hassileu(Cancer)

MUST BE PLAYED IN THE DARK

    Elektra Records - 1967

  • sounds like an old nintendo game

  • I also own this LP. It's quite unique. Picked it up at a garage sale back in the 1980's. I agree with the other person who owns the LP. You gotta have pop and cracks to get the full 60's experience.

  • Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues said this album was a big influence on them when they were transforming into the "symphonic" Moody Blues that everyone knows and loves. I think they were listening to this record during the recording of "Days Of Future Passed."

  • Just found this vinyl in almost perfect condition at a local store for only 1$ :D

  • Just found this vinyl in almost perfect condition at a local store for only 1$ :D

  • i own the cd - this my favorite "odd record out there" i play it often and when i throw the songs on comps for friends they always ask about it! A one off classic timepiece that would be one of my desert island musts...

  • also have an original vinyl (bought in early 1968) and still play it, it was "new age" before there was such a genre

  • Quite curious! I've heard this due to Moog search...

  • i am aries and i am kinda offended. this reminds me of some fuckwad no one likes that is about to walk into a room. it's like "uh oh, here he comes".

  • THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE ALBUMN OF ALL TIME

  • @kenneth3105 I know a girl that had this record then she went to the berklee college of music and became a recording engineer if you like this listen to silver apples

  • Thanks for this. One of the rarest albums.

  • yeah, i can't even find the torrent for this album.

  • I also owned this from the first pressing. Most of my friends thought I was a little WEIRED......little did they know. Alas my vinyl has gone but lives on here and CD.

  • Paul Beaver!!!

  • Carol Kaye.

  • does anyone know who they were,i think they were session men

  • love this a lot !!!!

  • I think version of this track is much better in interpretation of Scottish band called Writing On The Wall on their only LP 'Power Of The Picts'.

  • I am so pumped finding this little jewel that I've had on vinyl since the late 60s. In fact, I have 2, in case one of them got damaged. Now thanx to skoraya03 I can listen to these zodiac cosmic sounds any time on any player.

    Much grass.

  • got this on vinyl the other day,a tidy little album here.

  • bloody great to hear this again , i listened to this album endlessley , (in the dark) off course ,great days

  • I bet a lot of peoeple that bought this album in the late 60s, must have been on a lot of acid/or mushrooms

  • @phoneix91 Oh really ?????

  • Believe me, it is worth buying.

  • where could i get it in rochester is their many copies or are they really rare

  • @rebisjoshua You can easily find the cheaper reissue.

  • Man this song's fuckin great. I don't know how this band have slipped me by. Is the rest of the record as good?

  • @Dripser electra studio band....comprised of fill ins, guest performers, they were too good to not throw this together to show off the deep talent under contract

  • @Dripser

Yep. Play it in the dark, as the cover says.

  • No aries has got one up on me-i just warn people off them and fill them in on their cruel, horrible, infandous nature and they tell me sometime in the future that i was ,lo and behold, right!

  • THNX FOR POSTING one of my favorite psychdelic cd.

  • oh and ummm the cd is pretty unique...i guess thats the word i can express...

  • nizxbit an aries must have done something very terrible to you....lmao our horns hurt i know....

  • I happen to own this on vinyl and it's much better than the cd re-issue. Those pops and cracks really put you there. Great record.

  • You lucky! :-))))))))) But not in all countries possibly find vinyl records. This is a rarity. (CD or mp3 is better than nothing!)

  • Me too, mine is in good nick.

For years I only had it recorded from vinyl on to reel to reel then on to cassette, still play it ´coz the muffled sound also gives a vintage effect.

Often see the vinyl at record sales here in Germany.

  • @stonedprolific

My father use to play this for me, on vinyl, when I was like 5 years old. Great album!!

  • Aries are all utter bastards...good track tho.

  • Oh, really? Ha-ha-ha! Thank you. I am Aries! ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • I'd have to disagree nizxbit. I'm an Aries, and for one thing- I am NOTHING like the "Aries description" of which characteristics us Aries are apparently supposed to have, and for another- I am certainly not a "bastard". I happen to be quite a nice person.

  • Utter bastards? Isn't that a bit harsh? How about just regular bastards...now a lot of people who know me might agree with that.

  • @nizxbit nine times the colour red

  • where can the lyrics be found?

  • Does this particular album exist on cd?

  • Yes, it was reissued on CD on the Water label.

  • the nice did a good version of this on their america compilation of radio performances

  • Not a hit from the late 60' but middle or early sixties - take that from an old hippie, well i was not that old back then - where are all the other signs???

  • Is 67 early 60s? I don´t think so

  • paul beaver was the synthesizer player on this record he also played on happy together by the tutles ,beaver and krause, and was a sound consultant for the doors.

  • @spacepatrolman was any of the doors playing on this album or the electric prunes i know they were on the same record label,Electra

  • @retardedjoe12

Don't think so,but they had the late synthesizer wizard PAUL

BEAVER who did work with The Doors.

    BTW,who is the narrator?

  • @RonaldVaughan there was another record like this then the electric zodiac by douglas leedy it has no side one or side 2 you can start anywhere [there was also electronic sound by george harrison which some people find unlistenable and switched on bach the biggest selling classical record of all time ] .

  • @RonaldVaughan

think the narrator is a loon called cyrus farrar. the musicians are all LA session players of the time.

  • zodiac is from latvia. their original name is Arka (Arch)

  • This album was a hit in the late 60's. It hit at a peak time in music history when synth/psychadelic music was a major factor. The prose poetry set it apart from many others in the field. If the other 11 cuts are available, it would be a great thing. Thanks
