  • Thanks much - this is a Steinberger XM2 - with wood body and Graphite / CArbon neck, EMG pick ups, mid to late eighties model. goes way down for dub/regaae, but up too, a la Mark King , but with more mids, in my opinion. Heavy bass due to the density, but perfectly balanced. long scale, and stays in tune, like forever ;)

  • Awesome man! whats the bass called I really like the sound and look of it! :D

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

  • So, can you record instruments of your own on Garageband? Like could I record myself playing real guitar on it?

  • Are you running the bass through the Hi-z input or the line input?

  • hi-z ...

  • But i don't have a hi-z cable.. is it possible to record through line in?

  • @Reptillo Yes indeed, check out my video 'how to record guitar into garageband in under 2 minutes' it's soooo easy!

  • this is great man! i was hoping you could help me with something. I'm really new to the world of mac and have a firebox and garage band as well, its recording because I See the sound waves. But when I go to play what was recorded theirs no sound? I'm sure its something simple but I can't figure it out, thanks man!

  • the guitar that comes in at 21 seconds is a bit too loud.. and u should lower the mids just a hair for that track.. or just get the volume closer to the guitar track behind it.. and the bass should have a little more Bass, or maybe some swell..and also a little less mid punch on the bass..dude but other than that, creative wise.. thats freakin awesome... very nice work dude.. where u took it out right at 1:31 was REALLY cool, and agin at 1:42.. sorry didnt meant to be so critical. very AWESOME

  • Hi i have a mac mini at home and i was wondering how i can plug my bass or anything into it , to record tracks onto garage band. it has no audio plug, is there an adapter i can get,

  • @frozenmouse76 Yes totally, you get it for about 50cents from Radio Shack/Maplin, see my video 'how to record guitar into garageband in under 2 minutes', any other questions just let me know. Ryan from August In Adelaide

  • ok thanx, i have been using mixcraft 4 on PC, and that worked fine, but i wont be able to use that for every thing as i will not have access to the PC as much as i used to.

And i often make short songs, or short guitar bits that i want to record.

  • just got a macbook pro, obviously has garageband, just quick question, does me recording music with garageband have any effect on the macbook itself, for example it wont slow down or any thing right?

sorry bit of a stupid question, but i am very cautious as i have had problems with other software in the past :S

  • it's actually a good question to think about. i think you refer to, will installing a software bog down my system and make it slower (like in windows, the registry gets larger and larger), or hard drive space gets less and less. Mac OS handles this quite efficiently - and GB itself is already installed. no worries there. only temporarily if you open too many apps, or a GB project is very demanding on CPU, your computer may get busy on GB - leaving less cpu / ram for other apps at the same time.

  • so basically you have all the space and freedom to use all your applications, especially on a new mac. as a rule, keep about 25 to 30 % of you HD free (keeps it faster). 2GB good, but for larger audio projects 4GB better. and as a rule of thumb: don't install (or delete) any non system software that you don't really use or need (via appzapper program - free download). and keep your music files, pics and docs well organized on your computer as arule of thumb to prevent things from getting messy.

  • like our math teacher said. "there are no stupid questions" (we come up with some anyways though, lol)... ok - this is an old PC issue - it has no effect on the Mac. of course the number of programs you can run simultaneously depends on Ram and Processor speed, as with any operating syatem and programs. GB has a small footprint. if u run heavy mies, just close otehr programs. be sure to BACK UP. hard drives are cheap to replace, your music isnt (folder: user/music/garageband. happy producing !:)

  • lol you have all this expensive equipment and software plug-ins and interfaces yet you record it on garageband... BUY LOGIC!! SO WORTH IT

  • thanks it's not that expensive though ;) - yes i have Logic 8 studio as well. this vid just happened to be about garageband. as u may know, GB ideas can be continued on in LOGIC - since they are based on the same code - and one - way compatible. in essence GB is the old Logic Silver with a cooler user interface - apple might disagree here though;)

  • ah ur using guitar rig also

  • thats cool i use garage band to plug my electric guitar directly into the line in on my macbook mono guitar lead with 3.5 mono adapter to bring it down to 3.5 mono for the mac then change the record in garageband to mono and monitor it then use built in fx make some backing then record lead works awsum, respect

  • Nice groove. Were you able to plug your electric bass into your Mac to work with Garage Band? If so, did you use it as an electric guitar or other?

    Thanks

  • thats hot

  • dat look like mixcraft to me

  • Fuuuuck me. You recorded this on garage band?

Im gettin me one of them, well . . . better get a band first :P

But yea. SICK groove dude. one of the better garageband projects ive heard

  • NIce work! Funky groove! Keep it up!

  • Nice. Good stuff.

  • Would it be worth it to stretch for a Presonus Firebox over something by line 6? Does it have the same basic features?

  • firebox is excellent. if you need multiple ins outs yes - i'd use it. line 6 is great for guitar work, no delay (latency) and you can record the dry signal. expensive though. can't go wrong with a used or discounted firebox.

  • sweet. !

  • sounds amazing!

all you need are some lyrics :D

  • Incredibly good!

  • is fantastic

  • I liked it, but the Bass was a little on the trebely side with the wah. An envelope filter would have pounded the lower notes, or just whack the bass up to give it the fatter edge.

Other than that, I liked it! :)

  • thanks...bass yes very trebly.. i have to look at the settings i had (all GB effects in this case)..there's a lot of rumble going on in the low end from the bass drum with it's long wave...that's why i choose to not have the bass interfere with these frequencies (high pass filter)..a la prince if you will... might have overdone it LOL... P said to Miles Davis when asked about the inaudible bassline: "if i ever hear my bplayer, i fire him")

  • Ha, Ha! Brilliant reply :)

  • NICE

  • Sounds good to me

  • nice work !

    - but I think, you better take an other Drum. It doesnt sounds real, you'll find some samples and loops on the internet.

    make a song ;-)

    greez.

  • thx man.... it's a breakbeat sample that i liked from gb's jampack addition and some rhythm work from wednesday, more liek a gb scratchbook. i'll record some natural & percussive beats as well pretty soon, because i like them too - and it's a great way to get in trouble with neighbours...
