In 1973, he increased his vote to 44% which is larger than any of Thatcher's victories. The people never supported Pinochet and he knew it, thats why he had all voting roles destroyed after he had overthrew Allende.

Allende wanted to create a socialist democracy; so your examples all reflect your ignorance. If we were to look at socialist democracies today we would see a scuccess story. El problema en latinoamerica en los 70 es que la jente y sobre todo los jovenes universitarios se metian a comunistas sin realmente estar al tanto de las implicaciones. Como hemos visto anteriormente en individuos de baja educacion y alta ignorancia, intentar descifrar la identidad de quien tiene el conocimiento, es un signo de bajisima auto estima y complejo de inferioridad. The UP gobernment was elected democratically and by march 1973 it has a 44% of approval from the 36% of 1970. Think well, If Allende was declaring a totalitarian revolution, then why Congress, the judicial System and all the legal democratic institutions kept functioning and even became a very nasty opposition to his government? Because that is how a marxist revolution works. They were importing tons of weapons and terrorists to train workers and execute the "plan z"; that day, thousands of military, police, business people and politicians, would have been assasinated in order to take total control of the country. If somebody loose the job, the community must give an help, this is the goal of the society, give right rules and help each other. Then, if you have a job request and you reject it, then you MUST loose the unenmplyment benefict. The same when you are sick. In the socialist countries, everybody WORKED, everybody. That's exactly the problem of socialism. By creating a "social state", you are creating mediocricy. You are fomenting lazyness. What incentive or motivation people have, if they get it from the government? with that "social state" you are keeping those on poverty, poor. And those who are lazy, you keep them lazy. @ufousa69. Poor people are indeed poor because it suits them better to stay at home and watch TV, collecting a benefit at the end of the month and having enough for cheap cigarettes and booze. And nobody forces people not to go to higher education, that's a choice once again. But some people don't have the foresight to think what it will be like doing manual labour at the age of 40+. Socialism is just as bad as communism, at least economically.
