yes the powerglove also had motion sensing technology but not only did this guy make a prototype eerily similiar, at the end of the video he proposes what is basically the wii controller now.
What about the power glove for the NES? That had motion sensitive controls, although they weren't very good at the time. "I love the power glove, it's so bad!"
Okay, to the uploader, since this guy has the patent for such a controller type, you are saying that Nintendo bought the rights to this guys design? Okay, with that said, please show the proof that Nintendo didn't take their design to the patent office, rather they bought the rights to this persons design. And also, anybody remember the Power Glove for NES? That was a motion sensing controller, and I am pretty sure this guy didn't make that.
Though the Power Glove was made by Mattel by an American and a Canadian. The thing that I don't understand is why this is worth posting? What makes you think that it is important who made the technology and what nationality they are? Why does it matter, why not just appreciate whoever it was that did invent it.
Nintendo merely incorperated already available technology, not invented by this man, to their already ingenious, patented wavebird controller design. This man merely took the same technology and was the first one to incorporate it into a video game controller design exclusively for Sega. With that said, why would Nintendo show any loyalty to this man?
this guy is real i saw this on the news in chicago. he works iat mid way games IN CHICAGO. he recently got fired.this guy has created such kick ass graphics software that without him we wouldnt have the graphics of halo 3 gears of war, assassins creed, etc that we have today.now he was being paid by midway 2 keep his mouth shut about his invention or they would stop paying him.he actually patented his idea for this tech and nintendo actually is using his patents for the wii
YAll best shut your god damn mouths cause this is a man who actually made this before nintendo so shut da hell up before I beat you up! dis dude deserves a trillion dollars! betch
Differnet Technology in the power glove. The Power Glove could only detect roll, and used sensors coated with conductive ink yielding a resolution of four positions (2 bits) per four fingers. [2] This allowed the Power Glove to store all the finger flexure information in a single byte. [3] However, it appears that the fingers actually feed an analog signal to the microprocessor on the Power Glove. The microprocessor converts the analog signal into two bits per finger.
Did you ever use this guys controller? He demonstrated it with one game, which was probably the only game that this controller was optimized for, much like Super Glove Ball for the NES. That game had rather intuitive controls in my opinion.
I had the Power Glove. I got it because of it's hype from the movie "The Wizard" (watch the Angry Video Game Nerd or Nostalgia Critic review of it, btw -The AVGN also reviews the Power Glove itself).
I tried playing Rad Racer with it, which I can play just fine on a standard NES controller. I couldn't get past the Coastline stage as my car always veered to the right uncontrollably.Early attempts at such devices were not really successful. The Wii perfected it. Although I prefer PC games myself.
Big fan of AVGN, thanks though. I also own a Power Glove and I got it for the same reason you did. They totally hyped it in that movie, and I found that it was really overrated. I liked Super Glove Ball, and that is the only game that I ever played with it for any considerable amount of time.
@xChrisBoulterx the powerglove is farily different than this video. he invented two axis in able to hit low or high, now he said in the end that he will make a wirless invention and a better motion control making it a full fist which is 2 axis. now the wii is exactaly like that however it is 3 axis, now ps3 came and advanced the wii using a camera(full 3d motion) ps3 actually revolutionized it so wii or him will be able to sue one or another.
I've a suspect. There is an another wire like the wire of the traditional controller on the left of the screen, and, just there there is a shadow in movement when Glochy play. And the glove covering the console is rather suspect...
he really needs a close up of... whatever hes using. that does not look like a wii remote and nunchuk its like black or brown, and looks funny, UNLESS he has the remote in his left hand and nunchuk right, i dunno
I guess my question is, do you think it's possible for you to gain royalties for something you invented during your time with Midway? I hate that this is happening to you and your right your patent does use some tech that the Wii has but Midway and Nintendo is such a huge company. (But I don't really like Midway anyways).
yea, i saw it on fox, and they werwe showing this video, so i looked it up. so i know about the story, but i was wondering if that thing he was holding was a wii remote, or a remote using the wireless technology thats IN A wii remote?, because on the news story, he was actually using a wii remote
if you take a tickle me elmo and paint it green, its still a tickle me elmo. just because the appearance is different does mean the whole of it is different.
Pat Goschy, proving you don't need a suit and tie (or shoes for that matter) to be a great success. Thanks for the inspiration, Pat, and for helping me get a tiny bit of exercise while I'm gaming. You da' man!
yeah the wii-mote detects its position using infrared. there are 4 led's in the sensor. these read sort of like a horizon line which the remote detects its position relative to.
I like the video, but like he claims, it only works on Z-Y, Depth and Heighth, the wii didn't steal this idea, the wii's patent is for an X-Y-Z Axis motion controller, however this early design was rather quite complex for the time.

This is really funny to say: Nintendo Wii Controller Invented By "Americans"
while actually he's just one american guy...
and if he did somthing bad or not creative.. all ppl would say he is not american..and we don't know him.

that sucks. I think he deserves more credit for developing the technology, it's just that Nintendo is just a bunch of greedy bastards now.

Besides the pg was designed and produce by mattel for use on the nes. nintendo had nothing to do with it.

I hope you get the credit you deserve and some kind of compensation.

TYLERDOOM 4 years ago
no it doesn't, the infrared is to put a cursor on the screen. The wii mote (and the nunchuck) have accelerometers in them.
If you don't believe me try a game that doesn't use the cursor and coverup the IR.
