Blake was a real bastard in season one.He rapes his wife and kills Steven's lover Ted Denard. The writers were trying to make him just as bad as J.R. on Dallas. When Alexis arrives Blake becomes the hero and she becomes the villian and the rest is television history.
I'm surprised she forgave him for that, but I loved Krystle, and Blake together. I'm not surprised John was upset having to do that scene it was violent.
@Monamika84 because he was drunk and he found out that she was taking birth control peals and maybe he wanted some babies and he hadnt had pussy in a long time lol
John Forsythe was too old and it showed in his movements and Him raping his wife looked too exaggerated and made no sense from a man who "loved" his wife. He was a walking double standard he accused Alexis of being rotten but he was just as rotten. This show was too over the top and campy and constantly "Jumped the shark" Nothing made any logical sense. Krystle staying with him after that showed that it was ok for a husband to do that to his wife. The show over stepped and too late to turn back
Blake was a far cry from JR or Jock Ewing. JR had a love to hate quality which made that character so winning. Jock was a shrewed Biz man & never lost Ewing Oil. Blake constantly lost his company & Alexis beat him a lot.. Dallas was a unique show Dynasty always copied & went to the extremes & never stayed the course. The characters were over the top that it was impossible to believe people could be so out of touch. The Ewings were reg ppl who happened to be rich. Thats why it worked so well.
@NFitalianGuy Whatever Dallas was not about that at all. Dallas copied dynasty in every way. The Ewings were so fake it reeks. A dream? Whatever. THEY are equals in their own right and you just favor one over another. JR? What a5 sided drunk he is and was. Fake?
Dynasty must have been rated R for TV ! I could never get away with watching that in the 80's - I was a little girl! I was too busy watching She-Ra Princess of Power LOL
it's a wonder he could do that to Krystal!!!! the "magic blue pill" was'nt invented until the late 90's LOL!!! All jokes aside I don't condone rape!!!!:-)
I was at the Old Bailey in 1994 when i saw the first man found guilty and sentenced for raping his wife in the UK (it was a new law back then). He got 9 years! Being a fan of Dynasty at the time I'm surprised they showed this.
Apparently, the writers/producers originally conceived Blake as a more extreme version of JR, then toned him down into more of a Jock-type character.
Just one more character that committed rape and then became very popular. Others: Adam, also of 'Dynasty', Luke on 'General Hospital', Jack on 'Days of our Lives' and Todd on 'One Life to Live.'
Blake was too tough in the first season and too nice in the last seasons. I think he was a perfect character in seasons 2 and 3: not as bad as Alexis but not as good as Krystle.
OMG!! I almost forgot about this scene! Man! That was rough even for the 80's! I remember the hoopla over this scene now and what came later.. LE/JF really acted their butts off here.. crazzzy! I remember hearing that JF did send LE flowers after this scene because he felt soo bad about how he had to treat her during these scenes..
Apparently John Forsythe was so upset after doing that scene that the next day he bourght in a bouquet of flowers for Linda Evans as way of an apology. Sweet Guy
@evanstad mom and i watched a thing on E about the behind the scenes of all the old soaps and they said in the documentary that it took them 6 times to do this season bc John was so upset about the scene in gerneral obviuosly they finally did the scene. The docum. read a quote from John that said "Everytime I went to do the actions I kept on seeing my daughter in Linda's face, that's why i felt so bad about it." He also took her to dinner the day he gave her the flowers too, very sweet man!
I think Blake was a unique character, neither black or white. He gave in to his dark side at times but he was never an out-and-out bad guy like J.R.; he was conflicted. But even after he did soften up and became the moral center of the show, he showed his prickish side now and then, particularly with Alexis.
Also, the writers never forgot this side of Blake. When Rita impersonated Krystle and she refused to sleep with Blake -- he almost raped her "again." But then realized that what he had done 5 years ago was awful... :)
WOW! His explanation the day after is more frightening... I prefer Blake the way he was originally conceived: ruthless and not the paragon of virtue that he became. I think his softening up was also the by-product of Reagan era 80s American culture (wealth and money)

probably the reason why the plotline was that Krystle had a miscarriage. It was obvious that she got pregnant because of thsi rape.

it was poetic justice when krystle had a miscarriage of the baby that was conceived during that rape.
Blake never forgave himself.....

The starkness of this scene is so amazing -- it's just Forsythe and Evans acting their socks off. And then, when the music kicks in!

Blake is just like Alistair Crane, only in a nighttime soap opera.
