I did this back in 99' with my Kurzwiel K2500 then ran the audio through my dj mixer. Everyone was like "What the hell are you doing that for?" Tore it up though.
nice scratching! I have made a similar tutorial like this in reason too, but I did it a bit differently. I included some automation to make it less static. Check it out if you have the time. =)
great idea! works great with reason! Also works great with the my Korgs onboard sampler! Doesn't sound as good with many other samples as the classic ahhhh though. car crash and scream aren't bad but it only works well with long white noise type sounds. for actual vocal scratches I gotta plug in the decks, but for basic shugga shugga stuff it's a sweet shortcut. Thanx
So I loaded the samples onto nn-19, got it all to work fine, until I hit the record button. When i Record, then playback, it doesn't sound like the scratches anymore, it just sounds like a bunch of ticking noises. The pitch still changes, but the sound is just ticking to the beat I hit the key when recording, instead of the actual "aah" sound. Any help?
@doctordrizzay all i had to do was go to the link, open the file with WinZip and Extract it to the folder I wanted to put them in. 'browse sample' under nn19 and you got it. if that doesnt work for you for whatever reason, there are videos that'll teach you to load samples.
Thanks for the vid, more fun then what I was doing before for scratch sounds.
damn i did just what i saw in the video but it doesn't work for me man!, and when i create a NN-19 it doesn't start with "init patch", but with "farfi shaorgan", any help?
@ArchiTEKBeats yes, under the effects there's the "fruity scratcher" plug-in. you can program it, link a controller to it or use your typing keyboard. search Youtube for a tutorial on how to use it.
This is quality. I'm doing it with Logic Exs24 sampler. Thank you so much for the cool trick. Now I can't listen to music without having logic open just to jam around to it!
Absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for revealing your secret. I'm a Logic Pro user but this tutorial can be applied to the EXS24 sampler plugin. Can't wait to use this new-found knowledge.
@DJNICEASS you can probly find this specific one for pretty cheap since the new model came out. the new one is 250. this one you could probly find for 150ish now
yo..with the uprising of Serato / Native Instruments Traktor / Torq etc - it's really becoming more about the sound you produce vs how you produce it. Props to you for your creativity and ingenuity. Midi is the new turntable (this coming from a dj who is holding onto my tables with my all my last wil), but c'mon guys: appreciate this for what it is and where it's going.
I love to see this creative stuff cuz it just keeps pushing the possibilities. Keep up the good work.
Any advice for someone wanting to learn Reason 4.0? I just purchased a MIDI keyboard and Reason 4.0 and am looking for some advice. I play the drums and the guitar, but Reason and learning to use the keyboard w/ it seems more difficult!
Is this keyboard reactive enough (is there a delay time between the action and the sound?)? is that like a real instrument? Im planning to buy one soon to go on fl studio ! =)
@thefirstchildren It can be near instant if you have an ASIO-compatible soundcard. If you don't have a good soundcard, you can also use the free program ASIO4All (comes bundled with FL) & you will have about a 35ms delay, though I think that depends on how fast your PC is. I have messed around with a 35ms delay & it isn't noticeable at all. So... long story short... yes, it is exactly like a real instrument... because it is.
@mrerictbrown in the tutorial i assign the "sample start" setting to velocity, so it's a little random and gives life to the thing. You can assign this setting to another controller.
@branden5 the thing with vinyl is these DJ's now N days make that shit not fun, playin garbage at clubs so u got people like this dude who no u gotta have fun in ya craft to be good at it.
haha, so simple yet so ill, i luv it, didnt really think of it, actually, this isnt fake scratching, it IS scratching, just on a surface other than a mixer with a cross fader. igve ur self more credit :)
ok someone help mei jsut got a midi cable fr my keyboard so i can use it with reason 34 but reason 4 dosnt see my keyboard its a casio lk-110 please help

Creat an NNXT and load different samples across the white keys! Load drum loops on the black ones with the polyphony set to 1 and you can scratch on the whites and change beats with the black!
@Rocamillionaire it seems that you can USB-plug it to your computer. Install the USB driver from the Roland CD, then install a generic midi keyboard in Reason (google for a tutorial).
it's very great becauz of this video i bought an axiom 25 lol
but the problem i havent good sounds to scratch please give me another link to download this sound u scratch with cuz icant download with the link william.free........ pleaz send it to thanks dude
comment for everyone here: you don't need willbe's scratch samples! keep in mind they are just simple sounds that he's given us to use, but literally any vocal recording you use (like a child saying "hey you!" or a guy saying "hit the beat") or sound effect like a violin sample will work. definately utilize his tip of opening the NN-19 sampler and doing the pitch shift thing, but be creative! say your own DJ name and use that to scratch over.
Wow, nice trick! This is the most fun I've had with my Axiom 25 since i bought it off my friend. THanks for the video! Seems to me people are just jealous of your views. I call it innovation. It's just like you said in your video. Your not a DJ so you make do with what you have. Cheers!
there's a way of doing this without downloading samples or paying money
all you have to do is open up a Dr. Rex loop that has a DJ scratch, there are like 40 different scratches. once you do that the first 12 or 13 keys of your MIDI keyboard are little chops of the original scratch loop. ipso facto you can make your own crab scratch "beat" essentially
in order to do that you'd have to buy a chop-up program. i dont know any names of any
but the other way is to open a bunch of NNXT samplers each with a sample of a snare, bass drum, hi hat. you do that by opening the second folder below the "NNXT" title and then select your wav sample. middle C is the sample
if you make music that completely depends on the quality of scratches then we are on a different page of style
now, it could be that you actually think that, or your just still a little bit high from earlier and you decided to entertain yourself by hiding behind the anonymity of a cyberspace page and making a somewhat negative comment
so in reality, we could be calling you a cheap poser
good guess except i maintain that opinion through sobriety. scratch your own samples yourself, you can do it with a pitch bend obviously and that will sound better and is actually credible artistically
fair enough. however, originality in itself is the art of hiding your sources, so if i'm succesful in making it unknown that i have used the 'cheap poser way' of making a scratch sound in a song and have derived a pleased feeling from the listener, then i can argure being just as artistically credible as the very person who made this video.
i agree half the fun is hiding your stuff, but anything like prerecorded scratches, loops, presets, thats all the opposite of artistic credibility., you are using other peoples material beyond the single note. my opinion doesnt matter, but thats just how i judge it myself. im slicer what can i say
out of the large sample of videos id like not to think that every person is a lame ass and it might have something to do with the hardware and its limitations. i blame your mom for not pulling you out three months early, slapping you with your own umbilical cord then ditching you in a landfill.
so over all the axiom is worth the money? it seems like most compostions on youtube consist of some lame main melody and stupid drum samples custom or not. before i spend my money i want to see some truely dope shit.
how do you get wav files to play in NN-19?

can i get the same effect with fruity loops and the axiom 49???

there's a way of doing this without downloading samples or paying money
all you have to do is open up a Dr. Rex loop that has a DJ scratch, there are like 40 different scratches. once you do that the first 12 or 13 keys of your MIDI keyboard are little chops of the original scratch loop. ipso facto you can make your own crab scratch "beat" essentially

Is there an easy way to put your own samples onto your keyboard? For example a kick on one key, a snare on another?

in order to do that you'd have to buy a chop-up program. i dont know any names of any
but the other way is to open a bunch of NNXT samplers each with a sample of a snare, bass drum, hi hat. you do that by opening the second folder below the "NNXT" title and then select your wav sample. middle C is the sample

This comment has received too many negative votes show
thats the cheap poser way

if you make music that completely depends on the quality of scratches then we are on a different page of style
now, it could be that you actually think that, or your just still a little bit high from earlier and you decided to entertain yourself by hiding behind the anonymity of a cyberspace page and making a somewhat negative comment
so in reality, we could be calling you a cheap poser
pepenores2 2 years ago
good guess except i maintain that opinion through sobriety. scratch your own samples yourself, you can do it with a pitch bend obviously and that will sound better and is actually credible artistically
omghai2u 2 years ago
fair enough. however, originality in itself is the art of hiding your sources, so if i'm succesful in making it unknown that i have used the 'cheap poser way' of making a scratch sound in a song and have derived a pleased feeling from the listener, then i can argure being just as artistically credible as the very person who made this video.

i agree half the fun is hiding your stuff, but anything like prerecorded scratches, loops, presets, thats all the opposite of artistic credibility., you are using other peoples material beyond the single note. my opinion doesnt matter, but thats just how i judge it myself. im slicer what can i say

im *a slicer
omghai2u 2 years ago
@omghai2u its cheap, cause dont costs you the whole vinyl set. poser? no, cheap.
and besides that, in this way, any retarted can scratch, which isnt a very easy task. so its poser?
why cant you see that things evolve with time? its the same thing that the torch-cave guys say to you with because of light-bulbs "cheap, and poser"
i truly agree if you say the real scratch is more complete and sounds more natural, so?

out of the large sample of videos id like not to think that every person is a lame ass and it might have something to do with the hardware and its limitations. i blame your mom for not pulling you out three months early, slapping you with your own umbilical cord then ditching you in a landfill.
jrogers1189 2 years ago
so over all the axiom is worth the money? it seems like most compostions on youtube consist of some lame main melody and stupid drum samples custom or not. before i spend my money i want to see some truely dope shit.

blame people for the boring music, not the hardware.
