@rawrtimrawr actually this guy taught in pretty rough places all over the world and was attacked on numerous occasions by whole gangs and hospitalized them all. In fact, if im not correct this Sensei spent some time in jail for having hurt a fair share of people, so you are very much mistaken if you think what he is doing doesn't work on the street
This obviously put on for show, but I think it is important to be respectful of the techniques used even though I don't train in this type martial art.

a one on one staged fight is nothing like self-defence. Anything that goes to the ground automatically assumes only one attacker, which is actually quite rare (for men). Also, self-defence often requires an ability to have a variable level of severity in the response, which is difficult in MMA. Its just completely different worlds
I respect Aikido more than most of you will ever know but in this video, if you watch it carefully, you'll see guys literally flying around without even being touched.
At 0:56 for instance... watch the first guy that goes to the ground, its not how he falls but what he does next... just watch it! He literally lost sense of direction for a moment (great training), then he goes around the supposed master, touch him and throws himself to the ground in a pretty scenic way...
It is pretty simple to prove yourself wrong, if you don't believe it works.
When I first started learning it, I didn't know, what to expect and had only done Judo before. My sensei told me to hit her. I moved my arm and before realising what was going on I was on the ground. She asked me to do it again, but didn't threw me down and instead started walking around the dojo with me. I had no choice but to follow her. If you don't believe it, go to a dojo and try to hit the sensei! ;)
Also the problem with the training methods I've seen many times in aikido and hapkido is that even black belts are still training in one step drills and people running at you to train for using people energy against them. If your a black belt you should already know how to use the basic fundementals of the art, not still doing dead drills. That's for beginners.
aikido is not meant for fighting like most traditional martial arts, it's meant for spiritual enlightenment. I have nothing against aikido itself, just people that try to sell what they do as self defense. But alot of instructors don't know any better because they've been told by previous instructors, like the blind leading the blind. If you want self defense it doesn't take 5 years to use it, if that's your goal. It's also the WAY you train that makes the difference, it's like night and day.
I was in a 3rd kyu ranking when i involved in a car accident few years ago. That guy walked out swearing at me & point a finger right up my face.I used only 2 techniques, that was iriminage & tenchinage.Few of the bystanders stop the fight when i was in the middle of doing tenchinage to him.He got bruises & cut on his face(i do not know how & when he got that), it happens so fast but i'm sure he didn't even touch me! Not proud of the fight but in real fight, Aikido..it really works.
Aikido is a martial art of self defense. What u learn in dojo is a variations of this art.U might not use everthing that u learned on the street.Few of this basic techniques r very useful but to master & understand it u need to learn variations of techniques(with patience) in this art & it takes 4-5 years to really used it on the street when it is needed.Whatever negative comments about it, i'm sure aikidoka will learn these:1)caution 2)distance 3)reflex 4)speed 5) stability & 6)timing.
Most of people thinks that when the other man falls, is fake. But the truth is that the rolling part is just a technique to not get injured from another techinque cause if u know how to fall, obviously is better fall and roll than loose a wrist or get your arm broken in a permanent way.
Man there is useless to discuss what style is better. Like the wise chinese people sayd it is the man that makes the way great, not the way that makes the man great. And Shioda was certainly a great man one of the best martial artist who ever lived, and to all those UFC fans that doesn't even believe in this great man why are you watching this then.
First, the guy is in his 80's; not really a good match up. Second, without the rules of the "Sport" UFC many real/true martial artists could take these fighters you listed. They are indeed some of the best fighters alive, but it is sport. Gouge out their eye, bite, strike the throat, break the knee, etc. are all traditional martial arts techniques that could end any of the fighters you listed.
Educate yourself on Aikido and then rethink your comments.
@goepfert2 If you don't mine me asking. What the hell is this? Explain to me this style of fighting. Well to me its a whole bunch of brainwashed men jumping around pretending to get beaten up without a touch. I'm pretty sure that will never be done to me or anyone else. I just want to know cause i don't know what is happening and you seem to know about this than me.
@delvinmacmillen18 Aikido, first of all, Isn't mainly a style of fighting. While it's technically a martial art, most people you ask will say it's a moderately non-violent conflict resolvent. The purpose of Aikido is in a way to escape your opponent while keeping the least people hurt badly, including yourself. It uses lots of wrist and hip throws. The reason why it looks like he's not exerting much force is because he isn't. He's using his opponents force against him.
@opakik I fell sorry you. You cant even spell friend or culture rite. Yes your rite im American. I was trolling as usual and wanted to know what the hell this was. Sorry for my curiosity in learning something new. You dont understand that this isn't my type of videos. We dont all have the same interest or knowledge. I already been fill in on this kind of martial arts by a friendly youtuber and i totally understand it. Its pretty cool.
I dunno man. I'm an aikidoka myself. And Even in a no-rules fight, being locked inside a cage to deal with a rabid cagefighter isn't exactly on the top of most aikidoka's to do lists. Not to mention the conditioning these mma fighters go through. If an aikidoka put as much into his training and conditioning i think it would make for a very impressive fighter, but most aikidokas practice for other reasons than to beat up a cagefighter.
Wanna bet? You've obviously been duped. Wonder why your martial arts heroes get their asses ahnded to them time and again when put agaisnt a real fighter
@goepfert2 Wow this comment is hysterical. First of all, everyone can do "illegal" moves, and in vale tudo a lot of these are allowed. Strangely, they do not make a difference, just cause unnecessary injury. Second of all, Aikido is on par with Tae Kwon Doe when it comes to self-defense. It's great against drunk or uncoordinated retards but worthless versus anyone who knows how to fight. Third of all, any grappling practitioner of this man's age would submit him within mere minutes.
@goepfert2 do u notice that the aikido master is really not flipping them as it seems its like wwe its cool but fake. bjj is the best form of self defense for one on one
@joezline98473095 As a grappler myself who has trained in Judo and currently trains in Sambo... you're right & wrong at the same time. I've been to dozens of BJJ competitions in addition to dozens of Judo/Sambo competitions...you can't compare the 2 styles. BJJ is excellent, no doubt but it lacks many things that Aikido does not (ability to stand and fight). Once you go to the ground, there are knifes, bottles, bricks, sand, sticks, etc... hard to protect yourself from these things on the ground
@pcjudosambo You know it's really rare to find BJJ practitioners that really are not arrogant, ignorant arseholes. And those knifes and such you mentioned are another reason I'm not a big fan of sport fighting, a lot of them lack realism. UFC gets decently close, but not as close as when sportified MMA first started when it was pretty much just a street brawl in a cage. And too many people back BJJ as being invincible. Being a Goju Ryu karateka I understand ground fighting is good, but not Godly
@HairofSteel555 yap, Jason Chambers, who is an MMA fighter proved that MMA is not very effective against multiple attackers with a knife in their hands.
@pcjudosambo Wasn't that the "Human Weapon" show on Spike or whatever? I actually consider those two guys the luckiest martial artists in the world. To get a taste of almost every martial art on the globe would be an amazing experience in my eyes. I would NOT want to mess with those guys EVER, lol.
@HairofSteel555 Yes that was on Human Weapon. Listen, no doubt that MMA fighters or even Combat Sambo fighters (Combat Sambo is striking & grappling) are the best fighters in the world and are great at self-defense. But being an overall fighter is NOT enough against weapons and multiple attackers. This is where Aikido & Krav-Maga takes place. I think if you know Aikido or Krav Maga + other forms like Sport Sambo, or BJJ or Karate or Kickboxing, you will be in great shape to defend yourself.
Respond to this video... Wow you say a lot of B.S. if Aikido is at all practical why hasn't it been successful in UFC? Educate yourself on Practicality then rethink your comment
@p0etan because UFC doesnt allow small joint locks, breaks, throat strikes, etc. Ever wonder why they dont rip someones nuts out in UFC? or throat jab? There the most effective moves, but you cant use them. UFC is a sport. martial arts is not, its the art on how to survive a fight of any kind. i mean krag maga isnt sucessfull in UFC, yet the israli comando's use it. i have a hard time thinking they would train in a useless art. BTW boxing isnt street fighting nor is UFC. they are sports.
The old Aikido man in this video is phony. Lets see if he really those those illogical stuff in the UFC to guys like GSP, Anderson Silva, or Shane Carwin.
@Rookerman32 i wanna see them figthing on ground againt these five men, the UFC its so real, on the street you have a referee an all the time of the world to fight in gruond too. More trining, less videos
absolutely crazy--the craziest is how they charge him and he just gives them a chest bump and they fall down. This guy has taken a lifetime to perfect his martial art.
The funnyest thing about reading comments regarding martial arts clip on youtube, is how every sad mofo suddently seams to be kungfu masters and jedi knights and just knows everything!!?! :-DDD
@guinnessgalway there are no tournaments in Aikido. There are no matches, rounds, points, or competitions. It's not for sport and that is why it will never be in the spotlight like mma. Aikido is a blending martial art which is meant to be over quickly....this would not be good for paid entertainment.
@nrhouseman exactly so how could it ever be used in a real life situation,if they dont train for that, its nice to watch, its got great history and all that.but any person who thinks there knowledge of aikido would help them win a street fight or mma fight is seriously deluded e.g steven seagal,no one on earth, regardless if they had any sort of fight training or not would run at their attacker with their hands out in front of them like a zombie. BOOM i win
@guinnessgalway an mma fight is NOT a real life situation...that's retarded. It is a fixed environment with rules and a referee. Obviously you haven't got a background in traditional Aikido...it came from Aiki-jutsu which developed because of real life situations in the sword culture of Japan, essentially a life or death mindset. It doesn't get more "real life situation" than that. I think you ought to take a closer look at the essence of Aikido. It is as "real" as it gets.
@nrhouseman haha the next guy that attacks you with a sword in the street is gonna get his ass kicked.ok you stay doin your aikido, and best of luck using that in a fight
@guinnessgalway Your sarcasm doesn't substitute for your lack of knowledge. There is no such thing as luck or a need for it. There is no fight or struggle out there in the street. If a person attacks me they have broken the perfect flow of harmony and already lost the fight...regardless of the outcome. There is no competition or luck or win or lose in Aikido because the only one to defeat is yourself.
@nrhouseman ok i get ya now,so if a guy beats you to within an inch of your life its ok,because you no aikido so you win,i get it now aikido isnt a martial art or even a form of defense, its a lifestyle. is this steven seagal?honestly,or are there lots of mentally challenged people practising aikido?
@guinnessgalway hahaha you really are ignorant and full of yourself. You don't even want to know what Aikdio is do you. You'd rather workout your techniques of sarcasm and mockery than understand anything deeper. That's alright, you've probably never stepped foot in a real Aikido dojo. Peace...
@guinnessgalway well in akido, when you advance to higher levels, you get to learn about human pressure points within a body and how to contract a person's muscle until the nerves get directly attacked. This martial arts is very good against fights, and it's much better using martial arts in a fight than randomly attacking your opponent till he's knocked out. So I don't really what's the point of mocking such a great fighting style.

Hmm..nice video, but I suppose it's not really "appropriate" for peopel who don't really practice thsi .Cuz they expect to do the move at 0:36 and get the same effect lol.The problem is,the attacker is not always a cooperative uke xD
BUT,I've seen some cool moves ^^ Though I ahev no idea what they're called,I'm still trying to learn those long names wich I don't understand D=
I think the fact that these fighters are cooperating makes this demo even more amazing. it shows clearly the direction of the force applied as the attackers tumble and roll. If they didnt cooperate then there would have been a lot of broken bones and dislocated shoulders which would not be very inspirational to anyone. This could be applied in many situations as it also demonstrates allot of special awareness (including fighting)
they dont go into mma events becuase mma doesnt allow small joint manipulations and things that would be very easy, if done wrongly, to severly injure, or in worst case, maim. thats why
they don't allow aikido in mma because the fight wouldn't be a fight at all...the well-trained aikido man would get out of the way of a punch or kick and throw the cocky meat head mma fighter across the floor, pin him down and make him cry for mama
they don't allow aikido in mma because it wouldn't even be a fight...no entertainment...a well-trained aikido man would get out of the way of a punch or kick and throw the cocky tattoo covered meat head across the mat and pin him down making him cry for his mama.....
lol tyson would rip his head off and use it as a hat size matters do you think he could get hold of his arm in the first place hold on heres my hand lol tyson was and still is a animal make no mistake he smash him to bits
lol bollocks what does that even mean? Gozo was a personal student of the founder. Your probably into mma or wrestling. which is "bollocks" lol. look at gozo's age and just think of what he was like when he was 35...Bollocks!!!!
i train both akido and mma he would get smashed to bits off bas ruttun akido is good but alot of the punches they throw would never land akido is good for locks etc but in stand up terms they would strugle
what do you mean by wrestling? wwe fake wrestling or olympic wrestling or catchwrestling foundation of shooto and therefore in many ways modern mma? Well if aiki is so aswesome why is no one is going to prove it in mma? U know grazies did it for bjj and it worked for a while.
I mean come on i know its not boxing money but still mma money is rising today and there are many organisations in japan, so masters wont have to travel far. This way they could show the whole world they have the biggest ki
@MrJeni wtf you talkin about? i was talkin to shapeshifter. not you. dude u dont know who you messing with. kick my head haha ok, maybe if you really good but i doubt you are. most likely you would end up crying like a lil girl you are.
@MrJeni anyway google the term grappling, yes whirstlocks ARE GRAPPLING dickhead. pussy ass motherfuckin son of a bitch talkin shit over internet how who would be in front of who.
The only reason that most people can't do the things he can, with or without aikido training, is because this guy's entire life revolved around the the blending of energy (aiki), not just in a dojo a few times a week, but in everything.
Pathethic comments most of them... Gozo Shioda was an aikido GRAND Master an who are you ??? He had nothing to prove to himself.... He proved his aikido when aikido actually did saved his life when he was sent to China while being a soldier.... His words are: "One cant never appreciate aikido untill it saves his life, that day came for me" So good luck to everyone who are taking time to write things like :fake or shit haha
I love reading the negativ ecomments from people who have never done aikido, i started 13 years ago and stopped due to work although now considering taking it up again. it is an effective martial art, not fake and takes years to perfect.
When I see an Aikido practitioner fight someone who does a different martial art i'll start thinking of it as an actual fighting form. Untill then all I see are coreographed fights in which the "master" grabs a students wrist and waits for them to do a fancy frontflip. I never see any leverage to pull of such body control in Aikido. It's all staged.
I have practiced Aikido for 13 years and this is total crap. Yes its good for a demo using highly cooperative ukes who idolise the instructor and dont want to be kicked out of the "club" -
ooh your a touchy fella aren't you. quite negative too. what happened to you to make ya like this, maybe your heritage train broke down (is that you in the orange boiler suit) or maybe your ab crunch machine is not giving you the results that it said it would (maybe you should try doin some decent circuit training.
Who the heck are you andrew5860, you area bit insecure aren't you? Look pal I can only say from my own experience and this is crap. Its a shame Aikido has been spoilt will silly demos like this.
I just came back from Japan after seeing Seagals student who is perhaps the best I have ever seen. They keep it really , not showy or fake to try and impress desperate people.
I would happily show you my BJJ against you doing this sort of shit
Interesting. You have practiced aikido for 13 years, and yet you think that Gozo Shioda, one of the three greatest students of Ueshiba, is "total crap."

If you don't believe it, go to a dojo and try to hit the sensei! ;)
McGlear 1 year ago
Also the problem with the training methods I've seen many times in aikido and hapkido is that even black belts are still training in one step drills and people running at you to train for using people energy against them. If your a black belt you should already know how to use the basic fundementals of the art, not still doing dead drills. That's for beginners.
koshiguruma561 1 year ago
aikido is not meant for fighting like most traditional martial arts, it's meant for spiritual enlightenment. I have nothing against aikido itself, just people that try to sell what they do as self defense. But alot of instructors don't know any better because they've been told by previous instructors, like the blind leading the blind. If you want self defense it doesn't take 5 years to use it, if that's your goal. It's also the WAY you train that makes the difference, it's like night and day.
koshiguruma561 1 year ago
I was in a 3rd kyu ranking when i involved in a car accident few years ago. That guy walked out swearing at me & point a finger right up my face.I used only 2 techniques, that was iriminage & tenchinage.Few of the bystanders stop the fight when i was in the middle of doing tenchinage to him.He got bruises & cut on his face(i do not know how & when he got that), it happens so fast but i'm sure he didn't even touch me! Not proud of the fight but in real fight, Aikido..it really works.
syimang 1 year ago

Wow, another uneducated UFC fan!
Educate yourself on Aikido and then rethink your comments.
goepfert2 1 year ago 29
@goepfert2 If you don't mine me asking. What the hell is this? Explain to me this style of fighting. Well to me its a whole bunch of brainwashed men jumping around pretending to get beaten up without a touch. I'm pretty sure that will never be done to me or anyone else. I just want to know cause i don't know what is happening and you seem to know about this than me.
delvinmacmillen18 1 year ago
@delvinmacmillen18 Aikido, first of all, Isn't mainly a style of fighting. While it's technically a martial art, most people you ask will say it's a moderately non-violent conflict resolvent. The purpose of Aikido is in a way to escape your opponent while keeping the least people hurt badly, including yourself. It uses lots of wrist and hip throws. The reason why it looks like he's not exerting much force is because he isn't. He's using his opponents force against him.

ToniMattTony 1 year ago
@goepfert2 Wow this comment is hysterical. First of all, everyone can do "illegal" moves, and in vale tudo a lot of these are allowed. Strangely, they do not make a difference, just cause unnecessary injury. Second of all, Aikido is on par with Tae Kwon Doe when it comes to self-defense. It's great against drunk or uncoordinated retards but worthless versus anyone who knows how to fight. Third of all, any grappling practitioner of this man's age would submit him within mere minutes.
StickyickyX 10 months ago
@goepfert2 do u notice that the aikido master is really not flipping them as it seems its like wwe its cool but fake. bjj is the best form of self defense for one on one
joezline98473095 8 months ago
@joezline98473095 As a grappler myself who has trained in Judo and currently trains in Sambo... you're right & wrong at the same time. I've been to dozens of BJJ competitions in addition to dozens of Judo/Sambo competitions...you can't compare the 2 styles. BJJ is excellent, no doubt but it lacks many things that Aikido does not (ability to stand and fight). Once you go to the ground, there are knifes, bottles, bricks, sand, sticks, etc... hard to protect yourself from these things on the ground
pcjudosambo 7 months ago
@pcjudosambo You know it's really rare to find BJJ practitioners that really are not arrogant, ignorant arseholes. And those knifes and such you mentioned are another reason I'm not a big fan of sport fighting, a lot of them lack realism. UFC gets decently close, but not as close as when sportified MMA first started when it was pretty much just a street brawl in a cage. And too many people back BJJ as being invincible. Being a Goju Ryu karateka I understand ground fighting is good, but not Godly
HairofSteel555 6 months ago
@HairofSteel555 yap, Jason Chambers, who is an MMA fighter proved that MMA is not very effective against multiple attackers with a knife in their hands.
pcjudosambo 6 months ago
@pcjudosambo Wasn't that the "Human Weapon" show on Spike or whatever? I actually consider those two guys the luckiest martial artists in the world. To get a taste of almost every martial art on the globe would be an amazing experience in my eyes. I would NOT want to mess with those guys EVER, lol.
HairofSteel555 6 months ago

Educate yourself on Practicality then rethink your comment
p0etan 5 months ago
@p0etan because UFC doesnt allow small joint locks, breaks, throat strikes, etc. Ever wonder why they dont rip someones nuts out in UFC? or throat jab? There the most effective moves, but you cant use them. UFC is a sport. martial arts is not, its the art on how to survive a fight of any kind. i mean krag maga isnt sucessfull in UFC, yet the israli comando's use it. i have a hard time thinking they would train in a useless art. BTW boxing isnt street fighting nor is UFC. they are sports.

aikido is great if your in an aikido tournament, use it anywhere else and you gonna get knocked the fuck out
guinnessgalway 1 year ago
@guinnessgalway there are no tournaments in Aikido. There are no matches, rounds, points, or competitions. It's not for sport and that is why it will never be in the spotlight like mma. Aikido is a blending martial art which is meant to be over quickly....this would not be good for paid entertainment.
nrhouseman 1 year ago
@nrhouseman exactly so how could it ever be used in a real life situation,if they dont train for that, its nice to watch, its got great history and all that.but any person who thinks there knowledge of aikido would help them win a street fight or mma fight is seriously deluded e.g steven seagal,no one on earth, regardless if they had any sort of fight training or not would run at their attacker with their hands out in front of them like a zombie. BOOM i win
guinnessgalway 1 year ago
@guinnessgalway an mma fight is NOT a real life situation...that's retarded. It is a fixed environment with rules and a referee. Obviously you haven't got a background in traditional Aikido...it came from Aiki-jutsu which developed because of real life situations in the sword culture of Japan, essentially a life or death mindset. It doesn't get more "real life situation" than that. I think you ought to take a closer look at the essence of Aikido. It is as "real" as it gets.
nrhouseman 1 year ago
@nrhouseman haha the next guy that attacks you with a sword in the street is gonna get his ass kicked.ok you stay doin your aikido, and best of luck using that in a fight

nrhouseman 1 year ago
@guinnessgalway Your sarcasm doesn't substitute for your lack of knowledge. There is no such thing as luck or a need for it. There is no fight or struggle out there in the street. If a person attacks me they have broken the perfect flow of harmony and already lost the fight...regardless of the outcome. There is no competition or luck or win or lose in Aikido because the only one to defeat is yourself.
nrhouseman 1 year ago
@nrhouseman ok i get ya now,so if a guy beats you to within an inch of your life its ok,because you no aikido so you win,i get it now aikido isnt a martial art or even a form of defense, its a lifestyle. is this steven seagal?honestly,or are there lots of mentally challenged people practising aikido?

nrhouseman 1 year ago
@guinnessgalway Sigh, all these fat losers who are insulting fighters on youtube are pathetic.
LightxKira5643 1 year ago
@guinnessgalway well in akido, when you advance to higher levels, you get to learn about human pressure points within a body and how to contract a person's muscle until the nerves get directly attacked. This martial arts is very good against fights, and it's much better using martial arts in a fight than randomly attacking your opponent till he's knocked out. So I don't really what's the point of mocking such a great fighting style.

TyeDyeGuyRy 1 year ago
I think the fact that these fighters are cooperating makes this demo even more amazing. it shows clearly the direction of the force applied as the attackers tumble and roll. If they didnt cooperate then there would have been a lot of broken bones and dislocated shoulders which would not be very inspirational to anyone. This could be applied in many situations as it also demonstrates allot of special awareness (including fighting)

andrew5860 2 years ago
When I see an Aikido practitioner fight someone who does a different martial art i'll start thinking of it as an actual fighting form. Untill then all I see are coreographed fights in which the "master" grabs a students wrist and waits for them to do a fancy frontflip. I never see any leverage to pull of such body control in Aikido. It's all staged.
