People should understand that HINDI is not the only language in India.Few states of North India speak it.But to people from south india and north eastern states,Hindi is as alien to them as English.Language is a medium of communication.So let it be.Don't make such an issue of such a non-issue.India has two official languages-Hindi and English.And no national language.People should remember that before mocking those who speak English.

@aishu247 these ppl dont work in business, they dont need 2 speak english. the fact that not knowing how to speak English in India is such a big deal shows how embarrassed Indians are about their culture. have some pride.

@candyluver27 but you don't understand that they are speaking English not to show off but because that is what they probably are most comfortable speaking since they have been brought up in that surrounding. Plus to be able to speak our own native language along with English is something we should be proud about . Being able to speak in English fluently is not a sign embarrassment towards our culture in any way. I don't see it.

There is nothing embarrassing in speaking English.Just a language.Last I checked,there are more languages other than Hindi in India.And people use language to communicate,not to make a statement.

What's so bad about speaking in Bengali,Tamil, other languages???Language is a tool for communication.It shouldn't be made an issue about identity.To be an India one doesn't have to speak in Hindionly.How are u going to explain to non-hindi speaking region people that why you want them only to speak in hindi and if your argument is that its derived from sanskrit.Then so does lots of other languages.That's the reason India has no national language but has 2 major official language.

@sangini11 STFU! I dont kno why r u so proud of indians speakin english! We shud be ashamed if we're predominantly prefering it on national TV. No wonder, we're faar behind China, japan, france, spain, germany and even korea. We shud learn from them. That if we as people of our own country would speak more of an international lang then, we're a self-killers of own culture. If we ourselves do not encourage hindi or any other national lang for that matter, then who would??

Then you should also understand that India is a multicultural and multilingual secular country.And not all our roots are same here.If you read Indian history,you will understand that.Though its really nice of you to think of your country's unity n integrity.And no most people especially from South India or North east India don't act westernized inspite of speaking in english.They use english just a means of communication.So Govt. of India has made two official languages.

@sumthoughtfulwords the people who live in india make 1/3rd of worlds population, u think there are more people watching this showoutside india than in india?? stupid. it is all about being posh. speaking english in india is looked as a status and the better u speak the more posh u sound, thats a typical indian opinion. in western countries when two indians meet they start speaking english though they struggle yet they want to speak english. nobody else does this like europeans, arabs, etc.
