What a stunning testimony and I loved John's reiteration of what the true gospel is, that God comes to us, not us to Him! kind of funny.. kirk started "thinking" and became christian around 17 or 18... I was christian until 16 or 17, until I started thinking about what is actually in the book.. about it's believability and the odds of it actually being true, and how terrible it would be if it really were true. @pfarabee it is a similar journey, if you think about it. He found peace by making his imperfection the responsibility of an imagined third party. By surrendering himself to that party, basically becoming the property of it, he absolves himself of fault for being flawed. I found peace through the realization that as a natural creature, imperfection is part of the package. Absolution is unnecessary, because being flawed goes hand in hand with being alive. That is true peace, if you ask me.

Morality is subjective, with layers of influence determining the validity of a moral judgement. Those most closely affected by an action are the most empowered to declare that act moral or immoral. We ALL make mistakes. The point is that we should square them with those we affect by our mistakes, not our imaginary friends.

Great message. God has changed me and I'm a new person too. :) What I now realize is that my heart was deceitful. I chased and chased and chased and was never satisified. Jesus was a good moralist, ahead of his time who added much value to humans knowledge of themselves.

I've met Kirk several times and seen how he lives when the cameras aren't rolling and I can vouch for him as an authentic Christian and a real man who's stayed faithful to his wife, discipled his children, and cares enough about ordinary people to share the Gospel with them. It is true that there are hypocrites out there, but Kirk Cameron isn't one of them. His authenticity actually served to expose hypocrisy in my own life.I rejoice to know him as a Christian brother

I have a friend whose brother committed his life to Christ and shortly died later in an accident. He came back to life and talked about how wonderful it was to be with the Lord Jesus and how amazing heaven was. My husband's father, before he died, saw into heaven and became very excited and exclaimed, this is better than I imagined" before he died. kind of funny.. kirk started "thinking" and became christian around 17 or 18... I was christian until 16 or 17, until I started thinking about what is actually in the book.. about it's believability and the odds of it actually being true, and how terrible it would be if it really were true. Cameron is thankful for being a "filthy wretched sinner". Wheras, I am thankful for the realization that as a human, I am inherently flawed. I don't need redemption, only acceptance of my own imperfection.

@pfarabee it is a similar journey, if you think about it. He found peace by making his imperfection the responsibility of an imagined third party. By surrendering himself to that party, basically becoming the property of it, he absolves himself of fault for being flawed. I found peace through the realization that as a natural creature, imperfection is part of the package. Absolution is unnecessary, because being flawed goes hand in hand with being alive. That is true peace, if you ask me.

By redemption, I mean the type Cameron speaks of. I don't need an invisible man in the sky to forgive me. If I wrong someone, the forgiveness for that wrong comes from the PERSON I wronged, not from a ghost in the ether. I accept my own imperfection, which implies taking responsibility for it.

Morality is subjective, with layers of influence determining the validity of a moral judgement. Those most closely affected by an action are the most empowered to declare that act moral or immoral. We ALL make mistakes. The point is that we should square them with those we affect by our mistakes, not our imaginary friends.

@CHUCKSMITHGREGLAURIE I'm not married. But I'm also not living in the 19th Century. Unlike your side, we're not hung up on divorce, pre-marital sex, and divorce. The debate on those issues was closed decades ago (alongside abortion, evolution, and school prayer).
It's hard to talk "since" when your ideas are quite out-of-date. There's more to life than your antiquated beliefs and just because we're doing something your preacher doesn't agree with doesn't mean we're possessed by demons.

@jesusssavez YES he is lying! Evolution does NOT teach the things Kirk pretend it teaches, such as "croco-ducks" and monkeys forming into humans. He's clearly never studied biology and only knows about evolution from what he read in religious textbooks.
You ever wonder why ostriches can't fly, even though they're birds with wings? How about all other reptiles having arms and legs except snakes? How about us carrying around an appendix (useless organ) in our bodies?

Yes, very touching except when you remember that heresy disqualifies you from Heaven. I have contacted Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort about a debate about how one is saved. Thus far, they have shied away from even giving me a date in the next two years for the event. Their anti-Catholic slander will be accounted for, I promise you. Great message. God has changed me and I'm a new person too. :) What I now realize is that my heart was deceitful. I chased and chased and chased and was never satisified. That is the great thing about personal stories-it's personal. It happened to him, and he is merely recounting what happened. His encounter and his experiences are genuine and real, regardless of what one thinks about Jesus, the gospel and question of salvation. No one can take that away from him.

Every time I hear Kirk Cameron I want to bang my head against the nearest hard object. But the guy gets under your skin, I have always thought he is the real deal. Why do I think that, because of what he did, raised a family took care of his kids and cared enough to go talk to people.

Just compare how 99% of the church use ACTS 20:7 and never teach about ACTS 13:42-44, 16:13, 17:2 and 18:4. Jesus was a good moralist, ahead of his time who added much value to humans knowledge of themselves.
But a son of some god who created everything, etc. etc. is just dogma and, frankly, superstition. Lets learn from the bible, jesus and various disciples without having to add the nonsense about revelation, transcendance, hell etc. Its primitive superstition and we're better than that.
I used to be religious and only found the route to fulfilment after discarding it and turning to fellow man.

C.S. Lewis is wrong. He was a very good moralist, but he was also human. It's quite possible that he deluded himself into thinking he was the son of some god, etc.
I think probably he never really held any of that to be true, although others assigned that narrative to him in later biblical writings to give christianity more legitimacy.

"God" is simply the feelings of tranquility, love, hope, security, and completeness that have been subconsciously ascribed to a psychological entity he's been made to believe in. The reality is you don't need a god to feel those things, just a better education in psychology, and life skills.

Can you back up your claim? I've met Kirk several times and seen how he lives when the cameras aren't rolling and I can vouch for him as an authentic Christian and a real man who's stayed faithful to his wife, discipled his children, and cares enough about ordinary people to share the Gospel with them. It is true that there are hypocrites out there, but Kirk Cameron isn't one of them. His authenticity actually served to expose hypocrisy in my own life.I rejoice to know him as a Christian brother
