Well, he did try to eat Guy Smiley in the clip in which he goes to bakery to get something delicious that rhymes with "buy".

In the really early Sesame Street epidoses the yet unnamed Cookie Monster usually ate Kermit's letters and then often tried to eat Kermit himself. This scared kids a lot back in the day so he was given his cookie-addiction and became less a bully and more a fool with a great heart and funny personality.

On YouTube, I've seen the Cookie Monster eat a rock, paper, an art canvas, a safe, a typewriter, and a phone. It's a miracle he hasn't had a heart attack yet from eating so many non-edible items!

Besides, David Rudman does a great job as Cookie Monster and has the character down to a T.

Sorry, but it just gets upsetting and annoying when new performers get bashed, especially because many of the current Muppeteers actually worked with Jim Henson and got to know him before he died.
