  • thanks.

  • to all you hookers, this is what a straight line looks like :)

  • "Some of you hooker's know what im talking about."

  • When the feelings right I'm gonna run all night I'm gonna run to you Martin, to buy tour striker.

  • 3:39 of the video you probably messed up so you stopped the video and waited for your perfect swing...not good

  • yo

  • Im 13 and ive just started getting into golf. Your a great golfer and im sure u could help me. Well when i hit my irons they always seem to slice really bad to the right. Ive tried a couple of things to fix it and cant seem to find out whats amatter. Could you tell me some tips on what im doin wrong. Thanks for your time much appreciated

  • @bayleemckinney My old coach, George Knudson, use to have me do a drill where I focused on getting the "toe in the air" on the back swing and on the through swing with a bunch of half shots. Don't try and help the ball in the air and let the face rotate from "toe in the air" on the backswing to "toe in the air" on the through swing. Let the face rotate naturally on the circle of your swing. Cheers and good luck.

  • @bayleemckinney ive just started to and im 13!

  • @bayleemckinney

i use to have this problem, the main thing you can do is just square your feet, when you try play for the slice and move your left foot back, this caused more slice,

  • @bayleemckinney Im 12 and have been playing for 10 years, my dad was a professional, and i had the same problems a few months ago. What my dad told me was to get in an athletic stance, (bend your knees a little) and act as if you had a basketball in your hand. keep your head down and bring the "ball" back as if you were handing the ball to someone, then pass the ball out in front. do that a few times before every say 3 swings at the range. You are probably spiining out which is why they slice.

  • @bayleemckinney

You are coming across it on the down swing leaving the club head open. Look at how the pros bring the club back. They keep their front arm completely straight on the back swing. Keep your arm straight and coil your body 90 degrees with the club to keep it on the inside. Your shoulder should be under your chin. When you come back down coil your body back from the feet up until your shoulders start to bring the club head down.

  • @ravenwda007

    Cont 4

Hit down on the ball and don't try to lift it. If you do this correctly the divot will be in front of were the ball was sitting. In turn this is what causes back spin. The steeper the angle the more back spin. Patients this will take time.

And that is basically the perfect golf swing. write this down and watch Tiger's swing on youtube from the front view where he is facing towards you and also when you see his back swing clearly. This is the secret on hitting it straight.

  • @bayleemckinney

    Cont. 1

At this point your hips should be at the ball in your stance. This is key for a powerful swing. The next part is tricky, but if your positioned correctly from the top of the swing it shouldn't be too difficult. Visualize it this way. Your arms and hands, which should be ahead of the clubhead along with your hips and body in a steep angle for impact.

  • @bayleemckinney

    Cont 2

Come close to your back leg creating a solid impact instead of a glancing blow for a slice and follow through out towards your target and relax. These whole movements will move your body 180 degrees on the down swing. To get an idea set up and bring your arms up level at your shoulders and coil 90 degrees back and 180 degrees forward. Your arms and shoulders create a triangle. Keep that triangle through the entire swing.

  • @bayleemckinney

    Cont. 3

At impact the steep motion you created with your arms and hands ahead of the clubhead traps the ball and rides up the grooves and goes off like a rocket creating back spin as well. The "toe in the air" sequence by cmartingolf is part of a wrist role sequence in your swing. On the back swing bring the toe in the air and role it back at impact. When done correctly the clubhead will be closed on the finish of your swing.

  • @bayleemckinney as well as maybe your grip on the grip is too open, i used to have the same problem then i got a few lessons and the teacher helped me with that, try close the your hand grip more for example if your right handed put your left hand, so that the left hand thumb is directly down the middle of it and the right hand thumb close that hand a lot so that the thumb of your right hand cuts directly to the left on top of the left hand thumb :) hope that helps

  • @bayleemckinney you might be opening the club face too much, or your may be too close to the ball when you are swinging.

  • @bayleemckinney just start having a beer when you turn 18 or 21,depending

on whether you're in us or canada. dont drink too much,it will just ruin your game and cause you problems outside of the course. just have one on the front 9 and one on the back 9 and relax..cheers kid

  • That's a first! @sillybanana01

  • @sillybanana01 well his swing i can guarantee is 100 times better than yours

  • I've got a strong HIGH fade that cuts all the way to the left to right in the rough, its driving me nuts. I may have to get a new driver. It's an 8 degree Big Bertha II driver and it just too high. I got my tee low its a pretty shot, but wayy too much fade, it's not a slice, but a lot of spin. It sucks.

  • @p8intballer4197 Clearly there is a path/face issue. Try swinging a little more out to right field and if that doesn't straighten things out, you might turn the face a few degrees closed. The ball doesn't care where the face is aiming at address.

  • I'm having problems pulling the ball "not a hook" but a straight pull. If I could straighten the ball I'd be playing really good. My driver and irons were pulls today.

  • @mesarock2vh You need a little axis tilt. Feel your hips move a little laterally and rotate above your left thigh. That will tilt your spine away from the target and get your path a little more inside out.

  • @mesarock2vh get your hips over your lead foot. "Bump" and turn. That should help you path and flag seeking you will go!

  • @Retnuh1974 i dont find this true because if you come into impact in to out and the face is square relative to the path it is taking (which is inside to out) the ball will go straight and to the right but if you hit the ball from and in to out path with a club face square to the target then it will fly straight or have a draw on it

  • Martin, love your stuff! You say your tendency is to come in with a closed face from time to time, that's mine as well. My grip is neutral to strong and I miss left almost all of the time with my irons, starts either straight and hooks left or starts just left and hooks more. Fairly straight with my driver, I typically hit that with a 10-15 yard fade or draw, goes both ways for that club. Any pointers on this closed club face condition - I have been really working on the str8 plane line.

  • @Westernap222 "Running out of right arm!" When your spine tilts too much away from the target, your path gets too much inside out. This leads to the right elbow straightening. When that happens, the right wrist flattens and the face turns over and you get the left shot (face hook) even with an inside out path. Feel as though your right shoulder doesn't go "down" so much and gets toward the target line, like you are coming over the top.

  • Ha, he said hookers

  • pechanga golf course?

  • @kevkris07 ArrowCreek CC in Reno, NV. 36-holes; one Palmer and one Zoeller/Harbottle course. Very fun property.

  • "some of you HOOKERS know all about that." Oh yearrrr.. We do know all about that

  • whats that oppening song???

  • @chiachi77 Brian Adams - Run to you!

  • Nice video Martin, quick question have you check out iGolftv yet?? or search for Golf Tips tv

  • Tiger played a lot of hookers on tour..recently, I guess the wife misinterpreted what he really meant..

  • very good review i think your swing is a one plane swing because your club is always parallel to your target line

  • I'm Not a hooker! lol

  • this guy just called us hookers? haha

  • QUIT SPENDING 400 DOLLAS ON A OFFSET DRIVER AND GET A LESSON BECAUSE IF U BUY A OFFSET DRIVER AND THEN TAKE A LESSON ULL BE SELLING THAT DRIVER BECAUSE ULL BE HOOKING THE HELL OUTTA IT

  • That actually helped me i was always slicing it really pissed me off

  • Well done!

  • Ever time I slice it. I get very pissed of.

  • thx was realy helpful

  • haha he called me a hooker

  • can people look at my swing? i would like some tips..

  • Adaivi...The golf ball will tell you if there's anything wrong with your swing after you hit it!

  • did that guy just call me a hooker?

  • Hence the smart stick!

  • just rub the sweet spot with some lube and it will go straight and far

  • Yeah, that works too:) The guys or gals in your foursome might have something to say about that!

  • @cmartingolf is that illegal

  • @rightyourwrong thats totally illegal :P

  • @rightyourwrong does that really work? i only play with my brother and he wouldnt give a crap. im just sick of teeing off into other fairways because of a slice haha

  • @rswickx525 haha yea. but i mean if u wanna fix your slice, i recommend having a complete backswing (so that the angle of your wrists are 90 or less), then keeping that same wrist angle and just torquing your hips so that your arms follow. then just release by flipping your wrists. if u find u ware still slicing, then release earlier. just remember, do not swing your arms until your legs have done all the work.

  • fintan i did also but i fixed it. its either your to tense or you carry your back swing to close to your body and your over down swing is over your back swing. what im saying is that your back swing and downswing shoud be in the same line.

  • I Slice the golf ball all the time i get vey annoyed and after round i feel like quiting

  • focus on coming through earlier, meaning turn your wrists over sooner and move your body through quicker so that when you make contact with the ball your club face is perpendicular to the target line. Force yourself not to hit slice and if you do then try to hit a hook, to dial that tendency out of your swing.

  • i ALWAYS draw for some reason...

  • guilty...im a hooker

  • Same! :P it pisses me off!

  • hahaha all you hookers, lmao. hookers ftw

  • Id say go for a half swing, then slowly build it up until your confident to swing at full speed while staying on that line.

Also, another tip to try. take an OLD club and stand with your back to a wall. You should be able to swing fully without hitting the wall on your backswing or follow through.

  • same w/ mine except when I try to correct it I pull it and hit it low to the left

  • once i hit the golf ball from the drive . my golf ball swervs over to the right hand side ?

  • u might be moveing your head. keep your head STILL when your swinging

  • Take a piece of newspaper, lay it down on the floor and draw a long straight black line from one side to another. Set up so the face is sitting directly across the line

    ---------|)----------

like so ^^^. Drag the head back along the line as far as you can while taking a back swing. When your arms are at full extension, finish the backswing, picking the club up.

Swing down on your follow through in slow motion, making sure to hit through the line as far as you can. Good luck.

  • thanks a ton I'll try it!

quick question in this news paper drill do I take a full swing or a half swing I'm not sure w/ the directions which one I'm supposed to do

  • cmartin I play for my highschool team and usually shoot about a 43 on a good day on a par 36 so I am a decent but by no means great. Recently this summer I hit a slump and I've been having a nasty unsolid hook that goes like half my driving distance on my driver but when I try to correct it I over slice meanwhile my irons hit great w/ the occasional slice. I've been to instructors and they suggested it must be my grip but they couldn't help. What am I doing???

  • absoloutley great video the first time i played i was getting alot of distance but it kept drawing to the right now its going far and straight cheers lad

  • Thanks a bunch!

Sweet video, helped me fix my habits of being a hooker

  • haha, sorry the wording in that was quite funny.

  • great way to cure the slice ,concentrate from takeaway to ball striking on having a flat left wrist (see the tour pros in slowmotion) its hard to do because you will have been bowing your wrist at the top without knowing -stop your swing at the top and halfway down you will see a totally different ball strike-it worked for me

  • No, a "golfer of the evening."

    Thanks:)

  • Did you just call me a hooker?! lol

    Great video.

  • That was a great video thanks lot!!

  • Comment removed

  • That's great! Glad it helped.

  • OMG this helped so much now i can get hole in ones thanks to you. 5/5 stars!!! thanks again

  • 1;52 ,= 'ok some of you hookers' hahahahahahaha

  • Yeah, that has inspired a bunch of comments:)

  • F, you likely have a open face issue that has something to do with your grip or you may twist the club open during the backswing. Your path (OTT or right to left) is attempting to fix the issue created by the open face. Google a good grip and you'll fix your path. Good luck. MC

  • cmartin I notice im coming across the ball from right to left creating a slice ive also noticed i keep hitting with the toe of the club this is mainly on my drive so i assume im coming out of the line for my right to left but what is causing me to hit with the toe i have been adjusting my stance distance from the ball still cant cure it any pointers? thanks

  • Thank you so much, really helped. What type of grip would you recomend?? I use the interlocking and I still go to the right quite a bit.

  • Coaster, the manner which the hands unite is not the issue with right shots, it simply the face being open at impact. You need to find a hold that provides a square strike. That can be different depending on your physical make up. See your local pro or post a video. Cheers.

  • Thank you so much!!

  • Nice video. Are you a golf pro ?

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, I've been a pro for 17 years and have been teaching for over 20. I hope it makes some sense:)

  • Great video. I realized that I am not bringing the club back on the upswing in a straight line, so my shot has been very inconsistent. Thanks for the tips!

  • Thanks Dresky. Hope it helps. Martin

  • Thanks so much for your input. After reading your comment and practice swinging, I see on my takeaway I am rolling my wrist clockwise, as you said. In fact, the back of my left hand is nearly pointing straight up.

I am going to work on this and looking forward to seeing the results on the range.

Thank you again for your time and comment!

  • Wiz,

Baseball and golf have a lot of similarities. The big difference being the forearm rotation of the left arm with golf .

It's likely you have an open clubface that you are adjusting for with your path. You don't want to hit it right, thus you swing left to offset the face.

Assuming your grip is correct: I would pay attention to your left wrist during your backswing. Do not rotate your your forearm clockwise and cup your wrist, the face is wide open. Seek a flat left wrist:)

  • Just picked up golf - as an ex-baseball player of 20 years, I have a swing which results in solid contact and ball flight but a banana to the right. If my grip is ok, is this usually a result of a bad swing plane? I noticed that my divots angle to the left (quite a bit of an angle left) of my target. I think it's a swing plane issue and/or open face...

I have not take lessons but think I need to do so to help with my plane..

Thanks for the vid - appreciate the insight and tips!

  • Yes you're coming over the top, also known as outside to in swingpath. Whenever I need help I go to a guy named clemshaw on here..

  • Thanks Kx, appreciate the commentary!

  • Hey im 16 ive only just started playing and when i hit the ball be it with a iron, wood, or my driver i always hit it over to the left and it curl so much it ends up way far to the left i cant seem to get the ball to go streight have any tips? thanks, Andy.

  • Andy, not to over simplify, but your clubface is closed to your path when you hit the ball. You can do a couple of things; make sure your grip isn't too "strong," check to see if your clubhead is passing your hands prior to impact. Check out my other videos on YouTube. The video about stiking the ball solid will explain what I'm talking about. Cheers and good luck.

  • i keep tring this but i always seem to top the ball. If i bend my knees to get down on the ball i hit behind it. what the heck am i doing?!

  • Trentsmom, watch my video about "low point." Get in a fairway bunker and, with full swings, hit the sand infront of your left foot. In order to do so, you'll have to do a bunch of things right and it will change your timing for the better. Even though you want to hit the ball, the club (irons) must hit the ground on the target side of the ball for best results. Good Luck!!!!

  • That's good advise for Trentsmom. His "topping" and "fat" shots are the same problem... casting/no lag/no transfer/etc. His low point is happening prior to impact. Your divot MUST be on the target side of the ball after impact. Be patient. Think of hitting an imaginary ball that's sitting just on the target side of the actual ball. It may help.

  • Picking your head up

  • some of you hookers LMAO

  • haha those rascally hookers!

  • They are a big problem for your average male golfer;)

  • looks like idaho

  • 15 and play golf how cool am i!

Anyway my iron shots and drive seem always to fade right rarely hit them straight. Is it something to do with bringing the club round witj your right hand on the downswing?

  • CPF, the most simple answer is that the face is slightly open to your path when the ball leaves the face. To fix that, the face of the club has to be orientated a little differently in your hands, so we get the ball leaving squarly; primarily your left hand. Rotate your left hand a little clockwise on the grip. Start with 1/4" and see if that changes the "squarness" at impact. You shouldn't have to manipulate with the right hand at impact. Good luck!

  • nice 1 good vid

  • Audio sucks, could barely hear you. Your information seems useful though.

  • LOL! 1:53, "Some of you hookers know all about that". HAHA!

  • uh not funny hookers as in ppl hwo hook the the ball. means curves it

  • uh that was funny d*ck, and im pretty sure he knew what he meant genius

  • Good swing tips but barely hear what you are saying. Can you please improve on the audio next time? Thanks and all the best.

  • Good video Chuck! Much appreciated from this slicing Canadian :)

  • Keep the vids. coming Chuck. Ex. job of getting that shoulder left thru impact !!

  • Thank you Dale. I'll post more stuff when the weather improves. I'm in a deep freeze in Bend, Oregon. I look forward to getting the camera out again. Cheers

    -Martin

  • Did you say "some of you hookers know all about that"?

  • Ok, Martin but you didn't show how the grip end of the shaft aims to the target line on the downswing or the transition which is much more importent then the backswing...Please explain

  • Hi Jango, sorry for the delayed response. I haven't checked YouTube in a while! You are very observant. I did forget to mention that and I noticed it during editing, but didn't have time to reshoot that bit. Good catch!

    -Martin

  • ...cont'd....Some of the best in the World don't swing on plane during their backswing. I can name a bunch of player. They do, however, relate to the plane on their downswing and their impact conditions result in a ball starting on their intended plane.

Do your best to aim the club at the plane line. If you do and get somewhat competent, you'll be a pretty accurate player and be able to diagnose issue when they arise.

    Cheers,

    Martin

  • heres adam scott swinging with hank haney's video, looks nice to be honest

  • But what i notice about his theory is that midpoint in the golf swing when one cocks there wrist, the butt end of the club wont be pointing at the target line, it also feels unatural to me and doesnt it shut the face as well? im very confused, but to be honest i think relating the club the the target line is the most efficient way to swing a golf club, what do u take on hank haney's theory?

  • u know i read hank haney's book, "only golf lesson you'll ever need" and he say that basically one has to swing on the shaft angle, then when u cock your wrist the club is parellel to the shaft angle, and the then at the top the left arm is parallel to the original shaft angle.

  • Hello Bull06,

I'm glad you are researching the golf swing and improving your "golf" knowledge. The bottom line, it's really only important that the impact conditions be correct and having a simple move that relates to plane as I've suggested seems to be the most proficient technique.
