Vista had more problems than drivers even after service pack 2 it needed tons of ram to run smoothly while I could happily run 7 with a mear 512 to 1gb of ram with ease. Vista needed 3 to 6 gb just to run smoothly.
@therealsteve2437 I would recommend the upgrade because Windows 7 is far better than Vista (at least it proved to be when I was using it for almost a year).
@RsMp3 Nope, I can't see very well. "My Expereince When I was blind", "How well can I see?", "No Glasses = How Much Vision?" and "People take their vision for granted." Watch these videos & you will see.
Who asks the people at circuit city for advice? the guy probably works register and was off that night but someone in the computer department called out so he had to cover. if i have a question about electronics i look 1 place and 1 place only...my fellow nerds on the internet.
I upgraded to Windows 7 not long ago, and it's awesome. It's even faster then XP with the same hardware configuration, and WAY more secure then XP. Haven't gotten any virus, or spyware threats since using it, where as I got them quite often with XP. Very happy with Win7.
My Windows XP kept like freezing and stuff and then my Hardrive died then I got a new one and Windows XP STILL didn't work right so then I got Linux Ubuntu and I was fine. So I recommend do NOT get Windows XP for a Toshiba laptop because Windows XP crashed on my Toshiba so I got Linux Ubuntu for my Toshiba.
i like windows 7 but truth is there is still alot problems with multiplayer games with anticheat software in windows 7 like punkbuster 99% of punkbuster games wont work properly with windows 7 you might be ok for hour,5min or 10sec and get kicked
problems with some video codecs image quality
w7 bugs seem pretty minor compared to xp's or vista's first steps but as a gamer and 1080p user its still far from everyday operatingsystem, i got it in vista combo deal so im back on xp+vista dual boot
I've always said it, windows 7 basically runs on the same principles as vista sp 1,2. everybody has there own opinion's. I personally have never had a problem with vista sp1,2, maybe my vaio is to updated for vista in all aspects, so the laptop basically smooths out all of the glitch's, that everyone else has with there old outdated machines.
I'm an Ubuntu user. However, for my future work as a teacher, I will need Windows, because thats where assistive technology for people who are blind lives. There are SOME items on Linux & the Mac, but the problem is most of our accessories (book players, PDAs), rely on Windows. My own book player runs Windows CE 5.0 Core. So, that's why I'm very glad that Windows 7 is a lot better than Vista & XP.
hopefully the drivers for such devices won't be so painstakingly mistreated. give ubuntu a few years and you won't need to spend the money or ride their business model train.
if i previously made a backup from vista can run it in windows 7??? the reason why i asked this question because i don't want to re instal every thing like adobe etc..
If you are talking about documents & programs, it should be fine. In my tests I found most of the programs with a Vista stamp worked without a hitch on Windows 7.
make sure you have RC not RC1 build 7077 make sure its 7100 it doesnt have bugs like the other builds and Circut City employees lie too much haha i got Vista SP2 Final RTM and its running more smoothly then SP1 but i miss Win 7 RC good video
and on to the title..hey man you should try RC win7...it's good, wick'd fast....just stay away from advanced system optimizer's registry cleaner and u'll be good (Y)
I'm running Windows 7 RC1 and I love it. :) I'm on it right now as I type it. I'm using Windows 7 Aero with the full screen magnifier at 600% which is fantastic.
XP uses a similar utility to repair itself and in many cases it does actually fix problems (In my case at least XD). System Restore does not directly repair errors although it does set regular restore points if errors do occur and when system crashes do occur it does automatically allow you to restore to past restore points. I find it quite useful as a basic OS Utility Tbh. Although If you were not talking about this. I apologize :)
I don't notice the performance improvements that much in Windows 7 X64 over Vista X64. I have a pretty powerful system, so that might be part of it. I always wonder that the stories about netbooks running a lot better with Win7 have more to do with the fact that Win 7 uses a lot less memory than actual system performance improvements.
Can you give me a general idea of where it is? Since I'm using Windows 7 I'm assuming it'd be in a similar location, and I could try to find it. Also any idea what search terms I could use?
Well for me its in Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Backup and restore center.
The search term i used is restore, its not exactly what you were talking about, but its pretty much the same. Mind you I'm using Vista, so my terms might be irrelevant. Good Luck!
PS: The repair utility runs in the background at start up, and if it detects a problem it gets buggy and then tries to fix it...
The repair utility for Windows I'm familiar with, but is it the same in JAWS? I've already run the repair utility within Windows (actually it ran itself a few times LOL).
I thought you wre a JAWS user. LOL JAWS is a screen reader and it speaks to you what is on the screen. It requires a video interceptor to act as the bridge between the computer screen and the software. The mirror driver is missing. I don't think it impairs JAWS too much but I just don't like seeing that dialog all the time on startup.
hey dude i have a request for you, iam a windows xp user i wonder if you can do a walkthrough of how "install" a virtual machine of winodws 7, i did it a while back with ubuntu and vmware but it was pulling the iso file right out of my harddrive so it was pretty slow :S so i guess that is not the way to do it, so thanks in advance
I really don't want to do a walk through install since I already have the machine setup. What I can tell you is this: set up a new virtual machine, select your OS, then set it so that it will boot off the ISO file. When you do that, select the 7000...(etc).ISO file and it will boot and run the standard Windows install. It's a very straightforward install. Select your version, your language for the keyboard & system, your time zone, etc. VMWare will gather this info from your main host system
The ISO file simulates an installation CD-ROM. It mounts in the place of your system's physical CD-ROM drive. As far as where it installs to, it installs to a virtual hard disk that's within a proprietary file on your system which takes up very little space. Just don't let your virtual machiens pile up, as i did. I had the same machines running on 3 emulators. I decided on one (VMWare, though I still have to unlock it b4 the 30 days are up), and removing the others freed up 50 GB HDD of space.
i tired windows 7 it had every driver for my mother board run my computer great then tired to install my xp software iv collected over the years and guess what not working if xp stops all that software is a waste of my well earned money
If you are going from XP then you may as well start from scratch because you will need to repurchase everything. Windows 7 has the same core as Vista. This was put in place to help stop piracy, I believe.
None taken, and I do agree. In fact I have Xubuntu Linux 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) installed as my second virtual machine. Until my target audience migrates to Linux, though, Windows will remain dominant in their work, with the exception of those who are running a Mac, and even then they may dual boot with Windows. Our software, as I mentioned earlier, is Windows centric.
The emulator PCs are fully customizable - the only limit is your system's physical resources. So, for example, you can't devote more than 2 GB of virtual RAM to your PC if your physical RAM is confined to 2 GB. As far as the footprint in Windows 7? I'd say somewhere around 8 or 10 GB. I can't remember. It's lighter than Vista though.
Vista had more problems than drivers even after service pack 2 it needed tons of ram to run smoothly while I could happily run 7 with a mear 512 to 1gb of ram with ease. Vista needed 3 to 6 gb just to run smoothly.
