  • Second rate guitarist eh? I've been playing guitar for 25 years, god only knows how he got that sound. I've tried to replicate it but to no avail. Make no mistake Marc was a technically brilliant guitarist. And how long had he been playing properly, 4 years? Amazing

  • Listen to that solo! I used to dance around to the room to this video when I was a kid. It was a fan club video with a voiceover from Adam Ant. I had to stop watching this though when my stepmum told me that Bolan had been decapitated in the car crash and I started having nightmares.

  • since the age of 7- 1991 I have always thought that Marc was majik, I think that this is proof of that

  • Great live version this is.

  • It is from T.REX or otherwise known as the "BROWN ALBUM".

  • Keep a little Marc in your Heart!

  • I remeber seeing/hearing this for the first time on a fan club vhs copy when I was a little kid. I've never forgotten it. Infinitely better than the album version.

  • bolan at his best before he became a teenage girls idol .it was from the album trex released in 1970 ,this was the first album not to have tyrannosaurus rex on the cover.

  • This footage was originally from Beat Club/Musikladen. The studio version of the song was on the 1970 LP "T.Rex" (their first under that name, but actually the 5th album if you count the Tyrannosaurus Rex albums).

  • Steve was a good bassist. I sometimes think Marc was 'lazy' as he could play some licks when he wanted to.

  • @SeldomSheBoredMe I agree, Marc was an outstanding guitarist.

  • Marc's guitar sounds brilliant on this and my god, Steve Currie couldn't half play bass!

  • The song is from the self-titled "T.Rex" from December 1970. The performance is from Feb '71 German "Beat Club". And it is one of the finest songs and performances of his career.

  • just the best no one comes close rip marc june mickey steve so sad thy have gone but what a legacy thy have left for ever

  • yeah, this is great. Wonder what would have happened if Bolan continued with this heavier, hippyish, psychadelic sound? i love T.Rex but stuff like this was special.

  • ..i loved this song... so much... its shows steve curries amazing bass lines.... the song is centered around e and g chords.... using the minor pentatonic scare... i love marc delayed/war/war solo... hendrix influence... and the bongo solo adds to this amazing track.....

  • @darksorcerermusic I agree but alas dont know what notes or chords are what- I can hear the differences and patterns but dont know the details.Have listened to T-Rex since I was around 11- I am considerably older now considering I was alive and recall the day in 1977 he deceased-Elvis was in the headlines still from memory, so Marcs crash didnt get the coverage it deserved over here in NZ anyways

  • Awesome vid.

  • It's probably February 1971

  • I used to have this on Video (VHS) now I see the psychedelic effects which I thought were pretty cool at the time(late 80s).Best version of this song I have heard btw.Great song all round- great bongos and bass-kewllllll ;)

  • Without a doubt great rock n roll!!!!! And somehow those primitive visual effects can't be beat. Long live instinct.

  • I have this edition of Beat Club in full (was german Radio Breman television) they did Rise a White Swan as well on the same show.

  • what album is it?

  • If I remember correctly, it was released on the final Tyrannosaurus Rex album 'A Beard of Stars'.

  • @blackdanter actually its on the T. Rex self titled album from 1970. It was the first album post Tyrannosaurus Rex so you were only off a couple of months haha

  • @blackdanter

No, no , nooo - no! The Jewel is from the "T.REX" - album recorded in 1970 (the brown album) and it was the second song from the beginning. "A Beard Of Stars" was released before this, somewhere year 1969 I believe. An another amazing album, that's for sure!

  • @nicforte

    T.rex's first album...

  • @nicforte Second track of T. Rex album or the brown album as it is sometimes known. 1970

  • @nicforte No not beard of stars, T.rex the self title lp of the first under the banner " " december 1970
