The truth is the Germans had lost control of the skies in 1943 over battlefields and by 1944 over most of occupied Europe in 1944 and when P51D with British Rolls Royce Merlin engine and long range capability that allowed range to Berlin(capital of Nazi Germany) the Germans lost control over this also as couldn't over come losses or lack of fuel. By the late 1944 period german fighter planes were outnumbered 8 to 1 and new pilots with only 125 hours of flight time and war was lost for them.

and crash landed 10 miles north of Banja Luka, Yugoslavia. All ten crew members survived the crash and my Uncle always said that he owed his life to the partisans who helped them get back to their base in Foggia. My Uncle and his crew evaded capture for 72 days!

He said they never got the credit they deserved, but he always told us how great pilots they were and spoke of great respect toward them who flew in the 99th while escorting his B-17! One, because of you're experienced skills in combat. Two, because the technology being used is out-dated compared to the enemies. and crash landed 10 miles north of Banja Luka, Yugoslavia. All ten crew members survived the crash and my Uncle always said that he owed his life to the partisans who helped them get back to their base in Foggia. My Uncle and his crew evaded capture for 72 days!

He said they never got the credit they deserved, but he always told us how great pilots they were and spoke of great respect toward them who flew in the 99th while escorting his B-17! The time his plane was shot up and forced to crash....it was a different fighter squardron flying escort that mission..NOT the Red Tails. God Bless your Uncle!
