The idea of drilling for oil causing earthquakes and sink holes is not new. A huge sink hole happened in Texas about a week after Haiti's earthquake. Texas has lots of Oil under it and is not very far from Haiti.

@sikminesta As a geology Major I can tell you that it is not the reason for earthquakes however there has been cases of small tremors created by oil drilling in the lovely stat of texas. The earthquakes created there were very minor though barely reaching a 2.0

The forces between plate etectonics are so high that there is no lubricant to make them slide nicely. Or if U want they do slide on a thin layer of molten rock - but still the jolts are huge when we referr to a human scale
