@ImperialDecree -- A great Champ once said, "Anyone with a beating heart can knock anyone out !!" We are all human, one good hit in the right spot is a KO and humble Champs all know that. I will say this ... the Auzzie's are getting really good in Muay Thai and I always enjoy watching them fight the Thais !!
@ImperialDecree Corbett has 20ish Kilo on Yod for a start. Not the fairest fight. In saying that Corbett is a great fighter, just completely different weight divisions.
uhmm i heard it was visa issues.yod is an awesome chap who sends all his money to his mom, leaving himself with just enough to survive.so when it came down to visa and they checked his assets,it was hard for them to clear him.
Yod's kicks are one of hardest in Muay Thai because he trains with YAK ... who is over 90kg and is big for a Thai trainer. Yod is just one of many grrrrrrrrr8 Thai fighters in Thailand.
he is good becuase he is thai. the thai and cambodians fight to live, becuase most of them are so poor, so from the age of 8 they fight once a week to saport their familys. were other fighters fight for the passion and the belt.
na i havent, but itsa dream to go to thailand and train there. good muay thai gyms are hard to find were i live, the best ones are on the other side of the country.
@cobydick0 2. if you notice other fighters will just throw flicking kicks just to throw them. muay thai fighters normally do not do that. watch YOD and Buakaw. when they throw that roundhouse...it's usually thrown with MAX power.
always remember that. no matter how they try to train you. master the basics. master your KICK, all the strikes are there to damage your opponent, but everything is about setting up your main guns-that KICK.
Yod is a solid fighter, I myself have trained at the Fairtex in Pattaya several times,, great gym, the heat is the killer..6pm session is much better than 3pm!! He has great kicks , his punches are solid bu t lack snap, but he makes it up with the great kicks!
You CAN Do It!! Be apart of Muay Thai HISTORY!! For the 1st time ever there is (14) Thai Professors that have earned a PHD in Muay Thai!! Muay Thai (MT) has TWO sides to IT. Most in the West do not know this and most do not take time to learn it. Many people understand the Hard as Diamonds part of MT but Soft as Silk is a little on the GAY side right??
YES, you are right, there is a Feminine Side to MT, that is what the Beautiful Boxer has taught many and many masters of this technique beat the Hard as Diamonds guys.
the softer side to me, is the art side, the refinement of the technique, timing etc, I have found in the west people have a tendency to go 100% (hard) trying to muscle a kick or a punch in, rather then use technique etc. imo ya need both hard training and the soft in equal amounts, but am stilling learning so this opinion could change in a year, haha.
good luck bud, let us know how ya get on, and thank you for the offer, am not sure where am going once i get to thailand.haha, all part of the fun.^__^
Thailand is amazing, many come to train with NO experience and some even Fight. Most Thais do not think the way we do in the West ... they do not Drool. ;-)
You CAN Do It!! Anyone interested in being a Muay Thai Instructor Certified with Thailand?? We will provide support, workouts and how to promote Muay Thai with honor and respect. MTM wants to promote Real Muay Thai and to give BACK to Thailand. Thailand needs good International Instructors that want to give back to Thailand. There are non-fighter certs, fighter certs and missions certs. Phra JAO uay phra pon, docthailand gmail com
I just set up some bags like that here at Ao Nang Krabi Gym, you can put 10 to 30 lbs. of sand in the bottom, stuff it with clothing and then use it for a month or two and stuff it again.
First you need flexibility then what I do is 3 to 5 series of 35 "spears" this is when you bend your knees and jump... try it; it´s also a good cardio workout
I would say to practice kicking as much as possible in a heavy bag and ephasize technique because I you don't have decent form, the kick won't be as powerful. Another supplement would be to incorporate plyometrics to your strength training regime and work on flexibility so that you have a greater range of motion.
Honestly, YOD trains with YAK, the biggest Thai Trainer in Thailand at 6ft and 230lbs and when you are kicking against a big trainer like that you can kick through walls. If you want a strong kick, then kick 500 times a day, see how hard you can kick and relax at the same time. Forget everything else and just train like the Thais. :)
Run longer, run harder, run faster. Thats what Yod would tell you, and that's what he did. That is what all the Thai fighters tell me when I ask how to get more power from my legs.
One SECRET to YOD's kicks is his trainer YAK, Yak is the biggest Muay Thai trainer I know in Thailand, 6ft 230lbs and kicking him is like moving a WALL. @cobydick0 i don't train in muay thai, i train in mma...but i understand muay thai principles. in america they tend to try and modify...WRONG.
when you modify...your result is subpar performance when you start fighting Thai fighters. see: BUAKAW VS K-1.
no matter where you train...always remember that the KICK is the main weapon. western/european training will rely more on the punching.
muay thai is about setting up the KICK and MAXIMUM power everytime.
