I just finished watching both parts of your review and I just had to say, I think your awesome. High energy, jumping into random topics, very funny commentary. I enjoyed the review a lot (and yes I know the game has been out for a while, blame youtube for it's "relevant videos" thingy at the end of vids)
Ah, you're like me, but the other way around. I love Mass Effect, and like Dragon Age.. But I will play them both to death, probably. :) Also, I'm a sucker for the really well made Mass Effect 2 DLCs (and the Witch Hunt DLC for Dragon Age really got me itching for Dragon Age 2).
@Kailys3 Hmm, from what I have gathered (I hope this is correct) there's a new list of characters, but you will be able to import the game from Dragon Age 1 (Just like the Mass Effect games), which makes form the world in Dragon Age 2. Also, there's bound to be several recurring characters (I can think of two that will probably show up). But yeah, no Grey Warden, we have to settle with Hawke. :)
Hey Cleo, I love your new reviewing style. I like the energy and I like the quirky little on-screen graphics and screenshots; some parts are really funny!
If I was going to make some constructive criticism I still think you need to get a little more structure to your comments. Also although this one was shorter than before I would still aim to keep your reviews under 5 minutes.
Accent-wise Salarians sound kind of like Patton Oswalt, the quarians are kind of south-west asia thing. Most of the men speak with their grizzliest voice, but the Krogan are moreso.
It is very amusing that you have to cover before vaulting. Having the same button as both actually caused me to accidentally vault a few time.
So dear Kailys3, me gots a question for you. Re: jumping and bad geometry:
What type of jumping should be in 3?
Dodging be good enough? I know I want that
Or do you want them to add old school platformer jumping and then force you to do jumping puzzles? for AI too (which mercifully wasn't something Bungie did for Halo)
Biotic jumping for a certain class would mean accessing areas other classes can't get to. Meaning forced replay value but leaving open the possibility of missing stuff
If you've ever played it, Psi-Ops did it good by letting you mind control something with telekenesis and surf on it. If you can so Jean Grey your henchmen too (though hopefully there's a return to paragon campaign next time), then at least one class might be able to not just command them but move them, and baddies around like chess pieces on top of jumping over that rock and not getting stuck on random geometry.
Yeah but that sounds pretty micro-managey, like you have to do in Dragon Age. It can be fun, but...it can also be a lot of work << If only AI was truly intelligent, heh.
You know what needs dodging? Resident Evil 5 << I dunno, just some kind of realistic but useful jump would be nice. It's kind of silly that you have to duck behind a platform before you climb over it. Or that a lot of platforms that should have been climbable weren't. I'm a halo girl, what can I say.
No, no jumping puzzles please. I have enough of that to deal with in oblivion.
you said that in the video which keyed the desire to request clarification. Halo is a closet platformer and we all love it. It even lets you fall/fly! No reason Mass Effect shouldn't have similar controls. The games are different enough that it wouldn't hurt to have similar controls.
and yeah like Bioware needs to not piss gaming girls off.. if for nothing else, fix combat, silly minigames that are menu screens instead of you hauling ass around a planet, basic movement and jumping because this gaming godess hates that halfassed crap!
@redzman20 You mean ME3? o.- Well of course, Bioware is gonna milk the franchise for all it's worth :p (as well they should, as long as their games are at least remotely fun)
3 w/o fixing the geometry glitches would be a crime. I can't believe they still have geometry glitches!
the first time they get away with it because they are noobs about making their first shooter for Xbox.. the second time.. after cutting so much out from the 1st game, no excuses.
It's nice to have 2 as a, they know how to do it right, 3 should be about perfecting gameplay, adding FUN game play, and dumping some of the corny sci-fi stuff and make it more serious like a live action reality TV (i.e. a game you're participating in and not a crappy script you're reading from) instead of the games feeling like a few badly stitched together episodes of a cheap Star Trek spinoff.
"like episodes from a cheap Star Trek spinoff" isn't all bad. I just want the scale to feel bigger. Apprently the game was sliced and diced to piece from what they intended for it. Which is fine, what we were served was excellent. And whatever big parts of the story and side missions, are still left over and still good can benefit from the extra prep time and be offered in doggybag DLC portions or held over for the sequel at the middle to end of next year. :)
Awesome video, even if I haven't played ME 1 or 2. You should really make more game reviews since you're so good at it. Of course, you're really good at making vlogs too, so more of those would be good as well. :)
@BecomingPtII I make as many as I play games ;_; well, except when I play old games no one cares about. I don't suppose you all would want me to do a review of Resident Evil 5, which I've been playing a lot of?
I didn't really care for the combat. I don't know what it is, I liked the 4th game and 5 is similar. It's just... I don't know. Not being able to move and shoot this time around really bugs me.
if the formula works though, why change it? were you able to complete those games and have fun?
We've seen what happens to an established franchise handed to a new team or a team grown bored but just want to make something fresh. It doesn't fit right in the skin of something though flawed that we love to death.
Miracles happen. I'm hoping that's more true for Mass Effect 3 than what they accomplished by cutting 2 down to essentials and getting them mostly right.
I honestly have grown to like the stop-and-shoot method. IT allows for more accurate firing. What bothers me now is the unreliable staggering capabilities for bosses << For instance, Wesker's shotgun instantly kills the big black guy, but the axe man only stumbles one out of htree times tha tI shoot him point blank. When he doesn't and I get hit, I die...muy frustrating x.x (of course if my mom wasn't such a 'tard that she could run over and hit circle in time, it would be a lot easier...)
You were able to get your parents gaming? That's cool. I bought my parents a Wii for Christmas. Hopefully they are having fun with it. I will have to give them a call one of these days...
I just don't like having to run half-way across the map just to ewload and avoid getting shot. I don't remember it being that bad in 4. 4 was awesome. If my PS3 could play it, I would definately go back and play 4. That was a great game.
I remember fighting a lot of enemies, shooting, running out of ammo. Running back half-way across the map, turning around, reload on ammo and continue. I don't know, maybe its just me, but that really bugged me.
you're supposed to get frustrated and have to stop and think while you're playing. You're not essentially rambo.
if you think of more like, when you do have ammo, do to circumstance or proper planning, at least the game forces you to stop, take proper aim, and shoot accurately so you don't waste ammo.
You might have better skills from practice and yeah more ammo helps, but that isn't the setting or game play they were shooting for.
having so rationalized that (for a game I'll never play), that can apply to Mass Effect. Though I refuse to accept that Mass Effect is designed to be a thriller in any way shape or form such as to intentionally frustrate the player.. eww.
Lol I think ME2 is actually WAY less glitchy then the first. In fact I made it through my entire first play through without running into any glitches like yours. ME1 had A LOT of glitches, I was saving all the time because of them. I found the story for ME2 to be far less anti-climactic and epicly awesome then ME1 also... Still I loved the game, weapon stability was definitely a huge fix lol, OMG I was actually able to use a sniper rifle! Those were horrible in the first one lol. Great review!
wow i'm in love
