It is literally impossible for any intellectually responsible person to believe the events in the Bible are anything more than moral fables and allegories.

Like I said -- I understand the appeal of Christianity and religion in general. It is a beautiful legend and the Bible is a wonderful piece of literature from an aesthetic standpoint; however, it just doesn't stand up to critical inquiry. There is no getting around it.

So if it makes you feel safe and warm, believe it. Whatever floats your boat metaphysically speaking. :)

Sorry it's really hard for me to believe that the world was created in seven days, when we have hard evidence that the world took millions and millions of years to form into what it is today. I think the point that Ryguy was trying to make is that there is historical evidence for the events that are recorded in the Bible. Does that mean that the spiritual parts are scientifically confirmable? No. However, it is historically accurate as far as the people and places recorded. If you don't want to believe it, don't. It's not something that should be forced, but, as a Christian, I think the faith described therein is something that should be seriously considered.
