Cats do that a lot. It's called "chittering." I had a cat that would do this when she was chasing bugs. I think the idea is that the noise makes the prey move so the cat can better track it and go after it.
There was really no need to be rude, I wasn't attacking your intelligence. I was simply making a statement because: there are people who truly believe that cats are taught to "bark" by dogs.
