I visited this church about 6 times . Its an awsome church. They realy love Jesus. I just wounder if Greg and Colleen Ellifson still go there. Greg , if you read this, Miss ya bro. Johm From Illinois.
I just want to tell you that in this video and the presenc of the Lord....your group brings sooo much energy into it and it makes a HUGE difference. The annointing, the energy, the passion is all shown here. You can tell you guys are WORSHIPING God and not just performing!! AWESOME!!! I have been doing drama for almost 15 years and I will say you guys are annointed.
I think this was awesome. I watched another group on here that did it and they were very good but with your group I could feel it!!! Totally awesome!!
Song is great....but many wrong and unreadable signs. Remember Sign is a LANGUAGE - not just motions. There are some things being communicated here that I think you really didn't mean to protray. (for example, signer signed "MOM" instead of 'man')
Need to learn the language - and not from a book or another inaccurate "Sign" Choir on Youtube.
Not being critical...just honest. Remember this is the language of the DEAF. No language should be used for a show.
you are correct with regard to knowing the language that is being spoken. We all must train to be skillful in anything that we do to glorify God. This was not a show movement is a language... non-verbal communicaition that God has given to us to commune with him and share His message with the world. Interpretive Sign is another way that the DEAF can have an encounter with God.
But the Deaf would not be able to understand this. At the most, they would be able to understand some of it - but it would not be the same message.
If the purpose is not for Deaf Ministry, then make it a "movement ministry" and don't use Sign. As as whole, the Deaf are offended when their language is mangled and misused for purposes other than communication with them.
You are correct with regard to mangling and misusing the language. If the communication is for the DEAF and movement is used to enhance the message then it is a vaild for of service to His people. I know ministries who have deaf members and they love interpretive sign when it is shared properly. Now dance is a language, step, mime etc No Language should be misused.
Yes, Deaf do love songs to be signed in their language when they are understandable. The signing in this video is NOT understandable. Some of it even looks made-up, which is NOT acceptable.
Dance/movement/mime is a language? hmmmmm....I don't think so. Maybe non-verbal communication...but not language.
Rather than point out things that are wrong, isn't it great that there are youth who are EXCITED about God and want to be used in a ministry for him? They may not always get everything right but please remember they are YOUTH and they are trying their best and anointing makes up for so much. I know from first hand experience that this youth group is anointed. I was there for this and no SHOW was involved. I can tell you that the hearing impaired were worshiping right along with the rest of us.
So....if a group of youth decided to start a Spanish language choir, and began making up words, and using words incorrectly...some even vulgar...as long as they were "excited" and "anointed"....it would be okay??
No! Let me ask, do you play an instrument, do you type? Have you ever made a mistake typing, missed a note, or learned a song the wrong way? They are not professional signers and this ministry is for both the hearing AND the hearing impaired. A mistake is not the same as making up words & as there is not a sign for every single spoken phrase some fill-in movement is used much like a song leader/pastor using their words to promote more worship. Our youth nd positive encouragment not neg comments.
Yes I play an instrument and type. Yes, I've made many mistakes, but this is not about a few mistakes here & there. It's about using the language AS a language & not for the motions. ASL is not "a sign for every English word". It is a language that doesn't have "fill-in movement". I'm not being negative...I'm being honest-they are not using the language correctly. I highly and positively encourage them to learn the language-correctly. ASL should be treated w/the same respect as any language.
Part of the reason there are soooo many groups who are signing incorrectly (some even vulgar) is because all they want to hear is how "wonderful" and "beautiful" they look. Let anyone who KNOWS the language say contrary....and it's considered negative/bashing/dissing. Yet, if this was any other language...I doubt the same would be said.
I work very closely with the Deaf (not hearing impaired) community - I know how they feel, as a whole. They will worship, even when they can't understand a word - but they are not happy about not being able to understand. I feel the same way when I can't understand an English choir. True Worship is because of who God IS....not because of what is heard or seen or felt.
So why wouldn't a group want to know if they were using a language wrong? Why perform in a language for non-language users? Is the group using the language for the people it belongs to? If not, why? I don't expect you to answer these questions - just some things to think about. If Deaf Ministry is not the purpose - why use the language of the Deaf? If it is the purpose, it needs to be learned correctly....just like any missionary would do.
did they get this from the apostolic church of Barberton DVD perchance? (:
