You can't grasp the bigger picture, can you? The men who killed Matthew Shepard were drug-abusing thugs - homophobic perhaps, but obviously not acting out of any religious conviction. Conversely, the killing of gays in Iran is a state-sanctioned enterprise codified under Sharia law. To equate the two is to blind oneself to degree, scope, context and motive. Christian extremists exist; in NO WAY are they a threat of equal magnitude to Muslim extremists (except to the pathetically undiscerning).

If honor killing has nothing to do with Islam, why are the perpetrators in the Islamic world not punished more severely for the crime? Most receive little or no jail time. And when attempts are made to stiffen the penalties, Islamic groups protest that doing so would be a violation of Sharia.
