@speedrocketeer14 i have a cockatiel and also two cats just make sure you pay close attention to the bird if outside of its cage at first and make sure to lock the cage at night eventually they will learn not to harm it
I see a cat walking around in the very beginning of the video. Im thinking about purchasing a 4 month old sun conure who's flight wings are already clipped, but im nervous because i also have a cat. How do you keep your cat and bird seperate and what precautions do you recommend?
hey your bird is beautiful i have two tiels and want to get a sun conure but you should move your cage to a different room because of the fumes and harmful sprays and detergents used in the kitchen they can kill your conure
i have a sun conure and a dusky.... i love my dusky more cause my sun conure is a dick it gets super mad for no reason, and does not let me pet him or her. oh do u know how to tell the gender???
i Bought mine for 140$!!!!! Including the cage food, toys......ON CRAIGSLIST!!!!! no kidding, shes a great bird......check on there if ur trying to find 1 :)
Endangered? Oh no... :( If I didn't live in an apartment, I'd buy the one at petco and give him a great home. (petco, yes, but he's sweet despite his developing isolation neurosis...)
And petco keeps their bids locked up, with little interaction, treats, or fun. It's like a corporate chain store prison. (some petcos DO treat their birds well, but the local breeders do all the work to MAKE decent pet parrots to begin with.) I bought three green cheeks form Petco. Two I made more tame and happy (but scars remain). The third was a new arrival that bonded to me instantly and was the most human-friendly bird, ever. Unfortunately he died - suffocating in bedsheets. x(
Not expensive!! I just bought this bird for $250!! Petco wanted $650!! ( NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!! ) Reg pet stores and breeders will sell this bird between $200 and $400!!
in reference to poor diets.. true sun flower seeds are extemely high in fat. That is all my Sun conure will eat. It had been that way for years. This April will be her 34th birthday, I guess she has George Burns's like genes. Great birds, I love 95% of the time with them....the morning screech, even after the years still unnerves me a bit. cheers.
Well to start what "have" you tried? It's typical for this transition be kinda hard, especially when a bird may have been raised on seed. But it may take some time, persistence is key. I'm going to try my best to help you.
Well, i've tried gradually mixing more and more pellets into his food but then he just stopped eating. Plus i've tried several times to switch it out completely for a day, but he refused to even go to it.
I'm not sure what else to do, there aren't any treats he has that I could mix it in with either.
Where would a Conure find pellets in the wild? That is probably why he rejects them.
Natural food is best. Your bird may be hungry, looking at the pellets and wondering what they are for!
Just give him access to a good seed mix, clean water, fresh or dried fruit daily (limit the dried fruit, it can be high in sugar), fresh greens and a couple of nuts as a treat. Plus, Conures are especially sensitive to change, if you really want him to eat pellets, make the change slower.
Zupreem natural and flavor blend diet for conures and parrots. I'm a conure specific breeder this is a healthy pellet and is easy to get you bird off seed and on to this. Found at petco/petsmart. Seed Leads to obesity and fatty liver disease. Hope this helps!!!
Sunflower seeds are really bad for all birds, they are the seed that has the highest fat content. But IMO (and that is all it is) so long as a bird has healthy genetics, a balanced diet and plenty of opportunities to exercise, they'll live to a ripe old age.
Having said that, I don't take any of my advice for myself, so my sweet Sun will probably out-live me!
well in this video his wings are clipped so he can't. And he really has no reason to fly away. his wings are recovered now so he can fly and he still doesn't but i wont take the chance of him outside
I have had my sun for about 3 years now. I love him very much but you need to do research on them before you buy them. I work in a pet store and I wish we didnt sell birds because more often than not, the smaller birds end up in a home that doesnt fit them. Sun conures are very loud! Not for apartment life at all. Also, a note to the person who submitted this video. You need more toys in that cage! Switch your conure over from seed to pellet. What petsupermarket did you get him from?

Be careful of your cat attacking your parrot. Wild animal's behavior can never be predicted.
