I honestly thought that Jenson wouldn't amount to anything, and after he won the championship in the best car and signed up for McLaren to partner Lewis, I thought he was commiting a professional suicide, but he has been doing great, and I just think it goes to show that a nice guy can be just as good, or even better, than someone with a questionable tan...
@volcom1722 JB was well ahead of shuey when he retired and he was about half a second a lap quicker than nando when Renault cocked up his pitstop, im not saying Jenson would of past him but it wasn't handed to him on a plate either, far from it.
Bring back james allen and Brundle. Quality!!! Always remember brazil 2008 because of them. In m opinion best race and commentraty ever [cant spell as in a rush]
James Allen is a dick! Interrupts Brundle most of the time in commentaries, goes over the top when Button wins, but has no passion when Hamilton won in Brazil 2008. An institutional racist bastard James is.
Anthony Davidson, now on Radio 5Live. Martin Brundle, the regular co-commentator was allowed to take one Grand Prix weekend off and he usually chose the Hungarian GP...
I know its shit and so did Brundle, that's why he always used to give it a miss for ITV. Although I notice the BBC were smart enough not to give him a a race off...but not smart enough see it out! :(
Allen was an annoying prick. He's had the wrong voice for it, he's a total, cringeworthy dork and all I can say is thank fuck he's gone. Shame we had to put up with him for eight fucking years. ITV just couldn't get the hint, could they? Prats.
I think Brundle and Coulthard are patriotic, but in a well-controlled way. If you ever have the displeasure of watching German F1 coverage you will see how uncool being overly enthusiastic about one's countrymen is.
The problem with Brundle and Coulthard is not the fact that they're boring, I find them quite entertaining. It's the fact that they seem to have forgotten they are British commentators on British television so they are supposed to get excited when a British driver wins, when Button won the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix they were more concerned with Vettel than the fact that their boy was about to win the best race of his career.
They don't need lessons from James Allen but they do need to liven up.
@Brezo18 I think a large part of the issue there is that so many other countries around the world get the BBC coverage and therefore the BBC Commentary. A huge criticism of ITV towards the end was there uber-patriotism towards Button and Hamilton, especially the latter. As someone who's Irish but who's Dad is from London, I'm open to British-leaning fandom, but ITV got so ridiculous I'd gladly take a slightly duller approach from the BBC than what James Allen provided. Each to their own though.
@rapidwardrobe but it was over the top, i would accept if he was a bit happier than a normal win, but not start shouting, this is the worse than europe cause europe isn't as crazy as this guy
@sti777aus And failing miserably. I couldn't take the coverage ITV had and his commentary in particular that I watched it on Setanta Sports. Missed a moment of Webber magic because of it.
@FormulaOneFan4Eva They are kinda unenthusiastic, but Legard was far worse. Turkey 2010, he was all "Ohh a collision there between the 2 Red Bulls." and that's it. Murray or Allen would've spontaneously combusted.
@PJ2436 "Spontaneously combusted" That is right on the button, you could not have put it better, when I read that I nearly pissed myself. I wish I could time travel back to the days when we used to listen to Murray and James commentating, best F1 days, Mansell, Senna, Prost, Piquet etc.
Murray used to get overexcited and make mistakes, we loved him but he was a bit of a joke. Of course when you do something like that for so long people forgive the mistakes and remember things with rose tinted spectacles. James Allen was good but people perceived him as worse than Murray despite being just as accurate and probably more so. The same with Legard versus Allen, everyone makes mistakes it's just you remember the most recent guy's mistakes more vividly that the other guy.
@KTM333333 Agreed. Personally I think all of them were poor in their own way, Murray at least was excited and like a schoolboy in a sweet shop but of all 3 he was the one who had least idea whats going on, but he was forgiven for being a nice chap. Allen just comes across to me as a smug tit who liked to think he knew what was going on but really didn't, he called his son Enzo, I think that says it all. As for Legard well he was like a commentating vicar.
@KTM333333 Murray and Legard probably made about as much mistakes as each other, but Murray went about it in a somewhat comical way AND not only knew what he was talking about (when he got his words out) but was enthuasiastic at the right times. Allen made much less errors to the point I cant remember any other than one or two AND showed general interest in the sport, unlike Legard.
I remember watching this, im english and I don't mind jenson but the commonators reaction is embarressing, it's so embarressing and obviously biassed, cringeworthy.
@11Gibb11 The reaction is justified. It was Jenson's first win after well over 100 starts and anyone who is a fan him knows that he would give up his lavish lifestyle just for that first win. Any fan of Jenson at the time would have reacted like this.
@masterfirelee He did. The Monte Carlo, the money, and all that other good stuff. Jenson's 2nd appearance on Top Gear confirmed that he nearly did that racing for Brawn with a huge pay cut. However, now that hes the 2009 WDC, hes back in that lifestyle receiving the same pay as Lewis. Jenson has definitely matured far more since that first win.

i am sure allan was on crack for most of the time he commentated for ITV. There is a video clip somewhere of the japanese comentary for the monaco grand prix, and all you can hear is allan exploding as the race starts and lights go out.
James Allen is probably a nice guy but I (and probably MILLIONS) around the world, stopped watching Formula One because I could NOT stand his ridiculous commentary. He knew nothing about anything and this is a great example of his completely unprofessional bias towards GBR drivers - we all expect a little favouritism but I promise you he blew in his pants when Button won this race.
@TheBusiness55 This! James Allen was a terrible commentator. Glaring mistakes, ridiculous level of Button then Hamilton bias, superficial analyzes and a contrived fake excited voice (I'd actually cringe a lot during moments like this video) made my viewing of F1 actually un-enjoyable during those years. I'm glad hes gone!
@puddingpants7 It's simple. He turned F1 from 22 drivers to 1 - Lewis Hamilton. Most don't realize that I-TV's commentary back then fed to many many many other countries, who didn't care about Lewis Hamilton's life story, or how Jenson Button struggled all his career just to get his first win.
He's completely partial to UK drivers, want to hear what I'm talking about?
@vampired305 But why should British coverage cater to the whole world. James Allen is british , ITV are British and a significant majority of their Viewers were also British. James Allen talked about Lewis Hamilton so much because so many NEW viewers in Britain were tuning in to see him. In Britian a new face amongst world level sports is BIG news. James Allen was catering to that as were ITV.
You trying to tell me that Italian F1 Coverage isnt a little biased towards Ferrari?
@blaizevincent I agree - it's great that one man is so patriotic towards his country. And I also agree that Italian F1 coverage probably are very biased towards the Scuderia... but my main point is:
James/Martin/Ted/Anthony (in this case) are fully aware that the rest of the world gets ITV commentary. Martin and Murray always understood it, and tried their best not to take sides.
I liked James when he was in the Pit lane.. I liked James before Lewis came along.
@vampired305 I admit that at times it was hamilton this and hamilton that. BUT the fact that a WHOLE LOAD of new veiwers here in the UK were tuning in to see Hamilton pretty much explains why he was doing that.
James Allen as ya know is knowledgeable on F1, He is just as interested in how the back markers are doing to how Hamilton was doing. So it really is just ITV & James Allen catering to the New Viewers at the time ,30% i think is the number i heard thrown around as the increase in viewers
@blaizevincent Alright - fair point. I get ya. Although I'd throw -this- argument in: Does the press / grid walk / post race show / evening news / F1 websites in the UK not have that job too?
James is (or pre-2007 .. was) a superb commentator. His shouting and excitement made F1 exciting - unlike the bland Legard of todays' times.
On another note - just for you UK guys - a 30% increase in viewership coz of one guy is great. Keep it up! :)
@vampired305 My grandma is now a die hard fan of F1 thanks to Lewis Hamilton. She hadnt watched since the Glory days of Damon Hill.
I felt in the UK that Schumis 5 years of Mostly Domination (2003 being the major exception) turned off the non Hardcore viewers, so Hamilton was the ticket back into the sport.
@blaizevincent no it was the end of an era and a ticket in to the sport for the british who just want to see british win and to hell with everyone else
@vampired305 I wish they would bring back James Allen too , i feel that Legard is more like a well informed fan that sometimes says things that just dont matter. BBC Preview for 2010 he mentioned that he believed that Mclaren would have a 1up on his books over Mercedes because the Mclaren has the Silver car i.e Silver Arrows. He used this not as a just a comment and to be fair it has some validity , thing was he used it as if it was a heavy blow to mercedes lol
@vampired305 I like Legard the man, he is alot like most fans (including myself) in which he has alot of knowledge for the sport but for me he comes off as an outsider, like us. Doesnt always quite understand how F1 works ... tbh im not sure where im going with this lol
But even if he doesnt have the complete inner workings of the sport lockdown it doesnt matter ,what matters like you said , is he doesnt have the entertainment factor like James Allen did. James was annoying too sometimes tho'
@vampired305 Please show me something that I actually care about. I can find you Italian coverage raving about ferraris or finnish sucking off kimi, too. its no secret that the english commentaters will support Hamilton. If you really dont like it mute your fuckin television and you comment on the race yourself. I get bbc's coverage here in canada too and I really couldnt give two shits what they say about the english pilots. Dont even get me started on those two videos you sent me .
@vampired305 No I asked a question you answered me specifically, actually? I am discussing this with others too and the examples you had given me sent me over the edge and I spazzed looking back in hindsight......... I apologize.
@xMatt16 DC? A good bloke but too serious and redbull biased. Ted is pretty good in the pits, but I think he might get irritating in the box. Who knows.
@muddwell Jonathan Ledgard will not be commentating on F1 for the BBC in 2011,Martin Brundle will replace him and David Coulthard will be alongside Martin
@SkaTasticMatt i no you said this a month ago, BUT yesterday in the World Superbikes, there was a british 1,2 & 3 in race 1, and a british 1,2,3,4 & 5! in race 2 xD
@xMatt16 Yeh, true, the amount of times I see World Superbikes on the front page of the paper when there is a british winner or on the back after each weekend..oh, wait, that dosn't happen.
@SkaTasticMatt look i love f1, i watch friday practise, saturday practise and quali and the race, i even watch the f1 forum, and, yes it does happen, you just havent seen it because i certainly have
what should happen with this guy in case if Hamilton did win 2007? nothing ...?(maybe Allen doesn't like black people :-))...I am not racist....just joking!XD
I know Murray has left, I was simply saying that he is still the better commentator despite retiring nearly 10 years ago. Take a chill pill man, jeez...
@JayRicci7891 Expect a response like that if you piss around and claim every commentator under the sun is "not fit to lace Murray Walkers boots." Such a moronic attitude you have.
JayRicci7891 @TJolteon Whats with the attitude? You on your period or something? Do pay attention. I never said "every commentator" was not as good as Murray, I said Allen and Legard are nowhere near as good. I cant speak for other commentators from different countries cos ive never heard them. And there are many Formula 1 fans who still think that Murray is the best commentator. So I guess all those people have an "moronic attitude" aswell?
@JayRicci7891 Hahaha, how pathetic. Have a think for a minute: if you go around slating the 2 commentators that have taken over Murray's place, then does not that say something about your preference. It seems you are so dead set on Murray, Murray, Murray that you fail to even acknowledge what these two commentators had, or have.
And yes, I do think all those that go around being generally ignorant need to move on or just turn off the fucking sound. Moron.
@TJolteon I did turn down the sound, my dog used to howl when James Allen was on ITV and Legard constantly interupts Martin Brundle, the only man in the BBC F1 commentary box who knows what hes on about. I listen to the races on radio 5 live with David Croft and Anthony Davidson, who I also rate very highly. So people dislike James Allen and Jonathan Legard. So what? Its their choice. Why the fuck should you care? Fuckwit
If you read his blog u'll see just wot kind of an idiot he is. read his post about hamiltons recent interview on bbc radio. He only seems to point out things which pain hamilton in such a way that he appears to be a humble and mature person and completely ignoring his gig head and ego. Just listen to the interview and just check out how he was bashing his past team mates which the cock completey mised out. Thats just one of many things about him that I hate.
james allen is possibly the most irritating twerp in the history of f1, when he isnt having an orgasm on screen hes chatting rubbish half of the time.
God I miss Allen!

James Allen as ya know is knowledgeable on F1, He is just as interested in how the back markers are doing to how Hamilton was doing. So it really is just ITV & James Allen catering to the New Viewers at the time ,30% i think is the number i heard thrown around as the increase in viewers
blaizevincent 1 year ago

I felt in the UK that Schumis 5 years of Mostly Domination (2003 being the major exception) turned off the non Hardcore viewers, so Hamilton was the ticket back into the sport.
blaizevincent 1 year ago
@blaizevincent no it was the end of an era and a ticket in to the sport for the british who just want to see british win and to hell with everyone else
jkamwal2 1 year ago
@vampired305 I wish they would bring back James Allen too , i feel that Legard is more like a well informed fan that sometimes says things that just dont matter. BBC Preview for 2010 he mentioned that he believed that Mclaren would have a 1up on his books over Mercedes because the Mclaren has the Silver car i.e Silver Arrows. He used this not as a just a comment and to be fair it has some validity , thing was he used it as if it was a heavy blow to mercedes lol
blaizevincent 1 year ago

@puddingpants7 Dude.. what the hell?
2 things -
1)You asked the question, I answered it.
2) This conversation is between me and @blaizevincent .. and we were having it in a decent tone, without profanity, respecting each others' views.
Grow up. And go troll on some other videos.
vampired305 1 year ago
@vampired305 No I asked a question you answered me specifically, actually? I am discussing this with others too and the examples you had given me sent me over the edge and I spazzed looking back in hindsight......... I apologize.
Also save the troll remark, its old.

I think they played this clip to Mr Allen when he applied for the job with the BBC, and he quickly withdrew his application.
shells075 1 year ago
why, why why is he shouting so much the exact moment he crossed the line, it was pretty obvious he was gonna win, he was leading by 40 seconds :P

@MrEd94 Well it was 2006 when the British drivers weren't the worst, but they weren't the top gunners for the championship.

Let's get Allen back. We now all realise how much insight we have lost over the last 2 years with Foghorn Leghard.

@xMatt16 DC? A good bloke but too serious and redbull biased. Ted is pretty good in the pits, but I think he might get irritating in the box. Who knows.

@TJolteon
I know Murray has left, I was simply saying that he is still the better commentator despite retiring nearly 10 years ago. Take a chill pill man, jeez...
JayRicci7891 1 year ago 3
@JayRicci7891 Expect a response like that if you piss around and claim every commentator under the sun is "not fit to lace Murray Walkers boots." Such a moronic attitude you have.
TJolteon 1 year ago
Comment removed
JayRicci7891 1 year ago
JayRicci7891 @TJolteon Whats with the attitude? You on your period or something? Do pay attention. I never said "every commentator" was not as good as Murray, I said Allen and Legard are nowhere near as good. I cant speak for other commentators from different countries cos ive never heard them. And there are many Formula 1 fans who still think that Murray is the best commentator. So I guess all those people have an "moronic attitude" aswell?
JayRicci7891 1 year ago 2
@JayRicci7891 Hahaha, how pathetic. Have a think for a minute: if you go around slating the 2 commentators that have taken over Murray's place, then does not that say something about your preference. It seems you are so dead set on Murray, Murray, Murray that you fail to even acknowledge what these two commentators had, or have.
And yes, I do think all those that go around being generally ignorant need to move on or just turn off the fucking sound. Moron.
TJolteon 1 year ago
@TJolteon I did turn down the sound, my dog used to howl when James Allen was on ITV and Legard constantly interupts Martin Brundle, the only man in the BBC F1 commentary box who knows what hes on about. I listen to the races on radio 5 live with David Croft and Anthony Davidson, who I also rate very highly. So people dislike James Allen and Jonathan Legard. So what? Its their choice. Why the fuck should you care? Fuckwit
JayRicci7891 1 year ago 2
@JayRicci7891 Lol, such a spiteful nature you have, not to mention immature. That makes me laugh considerably.

james allen is a legend

If you read his blog u'll see just wot kind of an idiot he is. read his post about hamiltons recent interview on bbc radio. He only seems to point out things which pain hamilton in such a way that he appears to be a humble and mature person and completely ignoring his gig head and ego. Just listen to the interview and just check out how he was bashing his past team mates which the cock completey mised out. Thats just one of many things about him that I hate.
ParanoidAndroid90 1 year ago
No, his blog is articulate, knowledgable, and very news worthy. 3 things which you'll sadly never be able to aspire to.
