It is impossible to 'waste' water. There is the same amount of water on earth as there was a billion years ago. The earth is a closed system, so until we begin launching large amounts of water into space, this 'cause' shouldn't exist.
Using water more wisely is a good idea because it improves efficiency. Water that isn't used, just doesn't sit around. It is used for something else. It's like companies that try to make more products for less money. Efficient use of resources allows for more economic growth. Gains in efficiency have always been celebrated as successes like the invention of the assembly line. You can do your part by using water more wisely. What you do does make a difference.
And plus, we only have so much freshwater that turns into ocean water. Do you want to waste the tiny amount of freshwater we have? Thats the type their talking about.

That's funny, because water can not be wasted, it doesn't disappear into a black hole or something, it goes in the wastewater pipe, through the city underground system up to the city water treatment plant, wher it is treated and purified up to a point where it can be put back into a river, then it goes back to the ocean.It evaporates, forms a cloud, and falls back on the ground, filling the lakes and underground rivers where the city takes it's water to begin with. You may be right WATER is not wasted, but ENERGY to PURIFY that water IS wasted. That energy is most likely coming from a coal fired plant as well.
