Man, i remeber seeing this when I was 11 years old and thinking how great it was. Is it just because I was a kid in the 80's that I feel so strongly about that time period or was it simply great. I don't think kids today have a time that holds as strong of a feeling. The nineties I think was the last decade that felt special. I could be wrong, but I had M Jackson and they have J Beiber. What a Shame...................................PEACE
I wish someone would repose the entire movie. It used to be available on YT that is until the internet went into HYPER COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT MODE. It's all Google's fault.
Gotta love those 80's movie montages. Some of the best:
Footloose, Teen Wolf, Teen Wolf too, Anything with Corey Haim and or Feldman, Bloodsport, Breakin, Breakin 2 Electric Bugaloo, Northshore, RAD, Wrath...
I was 16 when this movie came out. One of my favorites. God we believed we could do anything back then. Kicking ass in school to this song brings back goood times.
Greater Good - Having lived through the 80s I have to disagree, 80s were MORE consumer-based than the 50s and more fun living in it than looking back at it (although, looking back is great, too)
The only problem I have is with one part in this movie is when Mitch goes down to see Lazlo and his carnival car is at the top whereas Lazlo was down in his dwelling in his pj's stuffing envelopes. Wouldn't the car be down in his pad instead of up?
they don't make movies like that anymore, it was a different time, it was not long ago and how society changed. Now there is a lot of garbage, MTV became exploitive targeting corporate agenda. Movies changed too. At least in Europe they still have 80s nostalgia and organize 80s festivals where people dictate conditions not corporations.
@4321micro agreed, but I see a lot of Reagan era symbolism in this movie. Many people found the Reagan years to be just as corporate, consumer-based and culturally vacuous as the 50's. The 80's was probably more fun for the people reflecting back on it as opposed to the people living back then. But teen and college comedies were much better than the crap coming out now.
I was born in the 80's, but I wish I was a teen then. All my favorite punk bands came out then and the skateboarding scene was awsome, not to mention the reagan conservitive movment that the punk rockers were railing agienst
When I first saw this movie, I couldn't understand the scene with the kid screaming while everyone was studying. Then I went to college, and I understood then.
This movie completely molded my view of what college was going to be like when I was young. I was so disapointed when I learned that "real scientists" didn't wear a catcher's mask and padding when doing experiments with lasers :)
This is the greatest film of the 80s. This movie is my shit !... I have a couple of the songs in my Ipod. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I saw the movie and it's suck. Nothing more than a bunch of fucktard kids who thinks they're genius because they just try to outwitted the US Air Force by popping popcorn in da house.
@electrorice Me too! I have a long research paper and another long paper to write in two days. Time to drink a lot of coffee and do it! First, I needed to watch this video to get fired up.
@dlweiss WOOT! Thanks for noting that! It is one of the all-time greatest film quotes in my opinion. Pity that few people grasp the significance of it though:) It is ac onstant punchline after a rough day in my family. Glad to see someone else enjoys it!
Kent was the ultimate dork and cheeseball in this film and in Bachelor Party. I like when Val Kilmer sabotaged Kent's car and he said I'll get you for this. You'll rue the day!!! Who talks like that? This is a great movie with a great soundtrack.
It is a great film. I so remember sitting in engineering classrooms before PowerPoint going into a trance watching the prof scribble on the chalkboard.
LOL I have this song on my iPod (along with the Comsat Angels as well). I seriously can't listen to this song without hearing the poor dude's meltdown in the middle of it (video part @ 2:05). I love how they just shift seats and go about like normal and nothing was wrong. Like it's common place (i'd imagine it might be though for those kind of think tank schools).
Lol, thanks for this! "Real Genius" is always good for a smile/laugh! :)
OMG! Right there with you!!! I have both songs on my iPod as well and always imagine that dude screaming as well!! This is one of my all time favorite movies and I think sums up the mid-80s perfectly. :)
They really should use that for an anti-secondary school reform program. That might prove it. "Don't send your kid to college, he or she might turn out like this... *clip* Be gentle to teenagers."
check out this sleeper and i mean sleeper val kilmer movie called 'kill me again' it's with his former wife joanne walley kilmer. it is very very good.
