@STEPASAUR He didn't actually say he invented scratching though, he said he invented cutting, which is true. He also agreed that he was one of the pioneers of hip-hop.
I agree with what you're saying, but I don't think Flash is guilty of this (in this instance at least). One thing he did say was that he was one of the pioneers of playing just the break, which is true - Kool DJ Herc was the first to do it, Flash was the first to do it in time and not have the 'galloping horses' effect...
@stoneman85 thanks for the reply (and for not jumping down my throat), yeh I guess I felt he shouldve been more specific but what the hell, he deserves to be up there,I also read the timeline as you said it and no-one can front on the kitchen scene from Wildstyle as a global influence, am I right in thinking he as an electrician also pioneered the peek-a-boo(cueing system)? much love for preserving the facts
@STEPASAUR He was the first to use truntables as something more than just a place to play a record. Thus emcees started rapping, overcoming their original obligation which was a Master of Ceremonies. Thanks to Grandmaster Flash, DJing is an art form.
That's "Gaz", a tune called "Sing Sing" done in 1979.
I recognize some of the names who produced this song. They also had a part in producing First Choice's great 1978 album; "Hold Your Horses" -- which includes "Double Cross" and "Love Thang". Their contribution on it was "Great Expectations". Hey, enjoy!
I had the privledge to see this great man for free live, and I live in one of the remote places in australia (Tasmania) I am 16 and have been spinning records for a few years and when I saw him play, it really opened my eyes up to such a legend.
If you ever get the chance to see him live, you must do it!!
But I have seen Grand Wizard Theodore and Kool Herc Live in the last 5 years. Grandmaster Flash has the best skill currently out of the 3. Sh@t! these guys are in their 40s or older anyways.
It was actually Dj Cool Herc who pioneered the break mixing and Grand Wizard Theodore who pioneered the scratch. Flash had his part but to be honest is way off time in a lot of these mixes and plays beyond obvious tracks. Check the movie "Wildstyle" to see him at his prime.
bobbins!! the guy is a bellend! i seen him a few times and he is so arrogant, plus there was many other artists who pioneered scratching and turntablism, who dont get credited for what they did.
and the way he treated the furious 5 in the later years sucked. the guys a knob!
I listened to Grandmaster Flash from when i was 12, the music really educated me, and it made so much sense about the harsh realities of real life as well as being uplifting.
Flash if you ever happen to read this. I just want to say you've been there from the begining and your still here. I just want to say from every DJ that knows his history, thanks for all the years of hot music. Peace- Dj Jayru
