  • I bought K242 and that was a mistake. They sound like crap. And problem is that small velour pad space for ear with plastic on the inside. With K530 velour pads it's far better but still K530Ltd are better sounding headphones.

  • know how much this gift cost her?

  • @TheRealChina 300

  • witch 1 is better this 1 or beats by dr. dre

  • @totoalnono I've used Beats by Dre less extensively than I've used these. But these are definitely better. That said, music is more about preference and the Beats have more bass but lack clarity in the mids and highs. The 242's are extremely balanced and sound amazing throughout the entire sound spectrum. Definitely the better headphones considering they're the same price as the beats. Unless of course you value bass. For me though, the clear winner is the AKG's. They're better built too.

  • @totoalnono I did forgot to mention though, the AKG's will need some form of amplification if you plan to use them with a small mp3 player like an iPod. The Beats won't cause they use 2 AA batteries if I'm not mistaken. The Beats are much more suited to walking around use than the AKG's which are much larger.

  • Your girlfriend is awesome! My girlfriend doesn't even support my headphone hobby and rather buy me video games like every other girlfriend does... -.-'

  • you must have the best gf in the world bro

  • Hi Krauster1226.. I'm Serena, from Italy and I'd like to ask you some information about the fiio e5. I have a pair of AKG k242hd, just as yours and I'd also be intetested in buying a fiio e5 or the new e7. Have you tried the e5 with the akg headphones? Does it work? Can you hear a real improvement in sound? thank you and sorry for my bad English.

  • @serenabilotta yeah I use the E5 with my AKG's and it really lets the bass stand out on devices without ample power ranges to support the impedance of the AKG's. It's a worthwhile purchase and I really recommend it if you plan on using the 242's with something like an iPod or smaller MP3 player. Even laptops and anything without enough power benefit. At 20 bucks or so, it's definitely a great purchase.

  • how do these sound compared to the akg k240 mk2

  • I was also looking at the AKG 272 HD but unfortunately they are closed cans and I want open ones. I ended up pulling the trigger on the 242s. Thanks for the prompt and detailed response.

  • @kryptonian55 First off comfort is not an issue at all with these things. They may look large but they are super light and very comfortable. Don't worry. Also, without a headphone amp, my touch can drive them fine. Not super loud but fine. An amp would help though with clarity in the lows and more bass response as well as higher volume though. Also I can't say a shuffle or a smaller iPod like the nano could sufficiently drive them so take it with a grain of salt. Cheers!

  • I just happen to be in the market for a set of decent cans. The 242s are one of my choices. Question for you? Do you use these when listening to an ipod or other mp3 player? I ask because I would like to know how good these cans are at driving an ipod without the use of a desktop or portable amp. Also, now that you have had them for a little while, how comftorable would you say they were for long listening sessions?

  • awesome girl friend
