Although, I should point out that not ALL games on the Wii require the Wii remote. Take Super Smash Bros Brawl, for instance. It offers the choice to use a Gamecube controller OR a Wii Remote, with or without a Nunchuk. And there's also its backwards compatibility with all Gamecube games...
