College is awesome! You will enjoy it so much. You'll meet awesome friends, make life long memories. The challenges, nerves, emotions, stress, all that is apart of it and apart of what makes it awesome. Enjoy Jeff.
I AM in your situation right now; I'll be moving into my dorm at the University of Wisconsin - Madison (Go Red! :) ) 6 days from now. I'm nervous and excited, but it's finally starting to sink in that I'm leaving and I won't be in my familiar settings every day, which freaks me out a bit. And yeah, I really don't know what to bring either! lol Because I think we're going to have an amazing experience in college so I'm being optimistic about everything.
For me, there was about a month where I sort of went into shock because of the change, but after I adjusted a little, college was/is great. I get to spend my life studying what I love. (BTW, I'm a senior at LSU.)
Youre going to lovee college, dorms are soo much fun! I had a blast last year I was extremely scared and nervous the first like hour.... and then i realized noone at school was going to kill me then I was fine. dont bring too much my I brought my whole life with me and sn after realized I wouldnt use half of it. GET WILLLD and HAVEE FUN! the first few weeks will be a blastttt!! :)
Make sure to bring like a hot plate, and a lot of dishes and cups. Dorm parties are an ace way to lose dishes. And if all of you hate dishes than buy PLASTIC ones. My sis ters friends have yet to do dishes at college.
Oh, and don't forget toilet paper. No one ever brings enough. My sister and her dorm mate supplied most of the floor the first couple of weeks.
You're gonna have SO much fun!!!! Get out and meet people [don't think u will have an issue w this ;) ]. Don't go home every weekend! Make sure you take things that will make you comfortable and are familiar. Keep your current friends close even if they are @ a different college... they will keep you grounded.
Moving to London, Ontario in a few days..pretty much feeling the same as you, staying in residence, and will have 3 other room mates and have no idea who they are. I expect frosh to be a very big eye opener, as well as a lot of fun, especially all the drinking and not remembering a whole lot. I'm sure you'll be fine.
My advice to you for college (i'll be a sophmore) is don't go home every weekend, try and stay there as much as possible, you don't get acquainted as easily if you don't stay. Start random conversations with everyone you meet. Get to know your RA and Floormates really well.
keep your room clean, eat healthy, dont change who you are to please other roomates, dont get too close to your roomates because you might not see them the year after, you never know,P.S. dont start DRINKING BEER!!
im applying to colleges in october and will be going next september I'm sooo nervous and totally freaking out already hahaa.. I know it'll be fine in the end though.
As long as your are confident in yourself and have a positive attitude everything will be fine, go Jeffrey!! :)
In the first two minutes and forty-five seconds, you said the word "like" 40 times!
I wanted to count for the full length of the video, but I got too caught up in what you were saying to pay attention to the "likes." Maybe that's something you might want to work on for your next video. Try to do an entire vlog without saying that word. I know it's hard, I've tried it before (and failed).
Otherwise, good luck in college and keep telling us about your experiences!
My freshman year I moved in with my best friend and had a long-distance relationship that entire year -- everyone said that I was missing out on boys around me and that I'd end up hating my best friend. 5 years later? She is still my BFF and in the 8 yrs of BFFdom we have had one fight and that guy and I broke up the following summer. Sure it broke my heart and I lead a double life while commuting to see him but I learned a lot.
Of course you're excited and nervous - I was too. It's scary at first... but don't worry. You'll get through that, and it won't last as long as you think it will. Bring things that make you smile and make you feel comfortable... things you can look at that will make you think of home :o) You can do it! Woo woo woo, go Jeffrey!
Getting ready for college is an exciting experience because you have no idea what to expect. It's different for everybody, but as long as you remain optimistic and receptive to the entire situation, you will love it :).
Last year I was in the same position, but with 3 juniors... And everything worked out very nicely, so don't worry! Everyone's gonna love ya anyways, so why be nervous about it in the mean-time, right?
Funny thing is me and one of my close friends had the same thing happen to use except reversed we were the sophomores and our new roommates were the freshman! We complained the whole summer about being stuck with Freshies..lol no offense, but after meeting them they turned out to be our BFFs! Funny how things work? i wouldn't worry to much & there is no need to be nervous just be yourself and everything will work out :) OH and good luck with college, enjoy it because it goes by all too fast!
I'm leaving in a week and my university is six hours away from my family I'm extremely nervous. I tried to contact my roommate, but she won't reply so I don't know how things will unfold when I move in. But I'm sure you and your roommates will get along great. Good luck with everything and congrats!
I can 100% relate. I am moving in in six days and I am kind of nervous. My roommates don't have facebook, and apparently room assignments keep changing until the time you move in. So that's quite annoying. I just hope my roommates are cool! Also, if the assignment on the website stays true, I am living with a Joseph, James and James. so three J's and on R hahaha. Should be interesting, you should do mini-videos during your first week and combine it into one large video!
BRING A FAN. Seriously, unless you're living in Butterfield... since they have AC units. But my freshman year, I lived one the third floor of my dorm and it would have been absolute HELL without it. I don't go to MSU, I go to GVSU, but my best friend from high school goes to MSU and I've visited quite a bit. It's HUGE, but fun. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Hey, I can't really relate to you, because my country is not big at all. I will also go to college, but it's only like a half hour drive so =) i come home everyday. I hope you have good time & good look Jeffrey. =)
Kj! You totally made me all teary-eyed. Next week my friends and I are meeting for a final get together before the majority of us spread our wings and fly off to college. I totally get what your feeling about college and everything. I don't start until January, I chose that, but my bestfriend starts in less than two weeks and she's been very excited. Just remember to chillax and your roommates are gonna love ya, who can't like a man that makes affirmation texts of happiness? haha.
it's very funny on the first few days of the college year to see the freshmen walking around, they look so nervous, you can spot them a mile off :)
I guess most people feel like this initially, but there's nothing to be nervous about. for me, school is a much scarier place than college because of the pressure to conform, and in college you can be yourself more. you'll love it Jeffrey.
i know exactly how u feel. last year whn i startd uni, all my friends ended up going to other univeristys, most moved overseas. I thought my life was going to end. Once u start college u will luv it. just smile and im sure everyone will luv u
I had a similar situation. I transferred into a different school in the middle of the year (spring semester) and the 3 people I roomed with had all lived together for the fall.
It was kinda awkward at first but they were really nice and tried to make me feel welcome and include me! I'm sure you'll experience the same!
I'm going to college this year too. I was feeling okay. You made me feel nervous now. Thanks... >.>;; And at least you still have a lot of friends going with you to college. I have one. Although, if anything I'm more worried about classes and the workload than roommates and living away and all that good stuff.
And.... my dad's actually taking the week before I leave off of work. Lotsa family time for me I guess.
i'm so excited for you! jumping both feet first into the unknown is AMAZING and college is often the first big chance to do that. one of the most exciting things in life is to step outside your comfort zone into something new and uncertain. it forces your eyes open and energizes your mind and you soon find you're doing and thinking and creating things you didn't think possible before... Yay! embrace the nervous excitement; it's the energy that will drive you to new levels. good luck! xD
I'm in the same situation dude. I'm so nervous about it, new friends, new situation, new classes, and whatnot. I'm really excited though, and I'm positive you'll do amazingly! Have you started packing? I guess you've given it some thought, from your video.
Yeah, I've had to make a lot of major decisions in life, when it came to changing schools/subjects etc. Yes, I get very nervous, but after it's over, it's like heaven :)
When I moved out of the house and off to school, I was two hours from home and I was absolutely nervous and excited. And realllllly sad for like two days. Once you get settled in and you make some new wonderful college friends you'll be fine. :D Savour the experience!
Always remember your parents can send you clothes and whatnot you don't take initially. That way upon moving in you won't be stressed about "where am I going to put all this!"
Are you packing things in a trunk that you can lock with a good padlock??
I feel you will ease into your new life with great aplomb.
College goes so much faster that high school. it will be Thanksgiving/ Christmas time before you know it. I just hope you have good roommates that you get along with. Worst part of college is getting bad roommates. enjoy all the changes and try and have fun! College is a great time in life!
It's only natural to be nervous and excited. And that's a good thing. You'll do fine. You'll meet plenty of great, new people. But yes, it's important that you keep in touch with your old friends as well. I know you have a bunch of good friends from high school. There would be nothing wrong with making plans already to all meet up the night before Thanksgiving. When you say good-bye to close friends, it's always good to know you'll definitely see each other again shortly. Makes goodbye easier
i'm starting college too but i moved away from home 2 years ago to go to high school on a college campus & i lived in a dorm so i've already done this before!
1. it sucks being away from home and your friends but if you're really good friends you make the time. it's a good way to find out who your real friends are. FAREAL.
2. i was definitely nervous/excited. but i love meeting new people. i actually met the people who are now my best friends when i moved to school. have fun! good luck!
last year i went from IL to AZ for college which was a HUGE step. one piece of advice....dont over pack!!!! I brought so much useless crap that i didnt need and it took up so much space. Be realistic with what you pack/are gonna need. Also, dont be afraid to just go up to people epecially when you see people eatting alone at the caf, seriously my friends and i would go up to random people and ask if they wanted to join. I made a lot of friends that way.
i haven't had many life changes really lol but i guess i just deal with it :P i'm hoping to move to toronto to go to school there in april and i'm really really excited for that but at the same time scared because i'll be on my own far from my family and everything. but still really excited :)
I get excited but yeah, i get nervous too. omg, im going to be bawling my eyes out when i say goodbye to everyone when i leave for college cus i live in new jersey and we dont really have a main college that alot of people go to. so all of my friends are gonna be around the whole country. im honestly going to be really sad, but yeah, on a happier note, im also going to be excited to move and meet new people besides the normal crowd that im usually with.
I'm moving in for my first year at the University of Pittsburgh August 26th. I don't know anyone else going there so I am kind of freaking out. When I think about college I get so nervous! haha. I get palm sweats and my stomach turns. Oh god, hahah.
haha wow I'm going through all the same stuff right now...I'm starting my freshman year of college as well, but I'm leaving on the 23rd. I'm SUPER nervous cause everything is gonna change lol....but I'm also excited about all the new people I'll meet and the freedom I'll have haha. I can't believe you're moving in with sophomores lol, I couldn't imagine starting off that way...the dorm I'll be in is only for freshmen. Good luck with everything!! :D
I moved to a different country to attend my university, i was really scared to be all on me own for the first time but i made loads of great friends and now i just finished my last year and can't believe how fast it went by. I'm going on a interview on monday for an internship, yet another big step for me to start my carrer!!! don't worry doing things that scare you every now and again is what makes life interesting. good luck.
i haven't gone to college yet, but i have a feeling that i'll be rather nervous before i get there, then once i get there, i'll be more awkward than usual. haha
I'm a junior in college, and I love it. I was really nervous before I started, but you shouldn't be. I have roomed with friends from high school, so I've always had them there, but I imagine you'll be great at making friends.
Anywho, my college experience has been amazing... a lot like high school without all the downsides, and you're on your own. Just be excited... you'll get the hang of it, and hopefully it will be great! I move back in tomorrow, and I can't wait for this semester to begin.
Be nice to your parents. You're gonna miss them. I can't wait to come visit. You are seriously going to have the best time. Big life changes are difficult, but SO worth it. Miss you a lot and love you very much <3
I moved in yesterday! I was so scared! Its still a bit awkward since 2 of my roommates are best friends and the other moved in a week before us to take a math class, so she's met new friends. So Im kind of the odd girl out, but once classes start on Monday, Ill hopefully make some new friends. As for what to bring, I brought everything! Anything that I thought I might need and even with all the stuff that I brought, I still have plenty of room for more stuff. Good luck Jeffrey! Im right with you
I move in to college in ONE WEEK (UT - The University of Texas), and I feel so many different emotions. I'm nervous, excited, sad, happy, scared; I don't know I can feel all these at the same time, but I'm sure you're feeling the same. It's just going to be a weird experience not to be around the same people/places I've been around for years. I know I'm entering a new phase in my life, I'm just nervous about what is exactly going to happen. Do you feel the same?
You're going to love college so much! It's a lot of fun. your situation is definitely intimidating, but as long as you have an open mind I'm sure it will be okay. College is really fun and really hard and completely amazing. Don't over pack, you can always get more things at thanksgiving. And make sure you have really good boots for when it gets snowy.
haha. but im with you, i'm going to the university of iowa and all my friends are going to nebraska. the huskers. grosss. but i leave in about three days and have eight boxes of all my stuff and i feel like thats probably way too much and i'm four hours away from home and im nervous and excited and yupp. good luckk!
I started college last year and felt the same way you feel right now.But I have to say that for the first couple weeks it feels weird and you do miss things back home but you quickly forget cause you become so busy with everything that happening in your new life. This year is going to be really tough for me cause on august 21,i am going to be moving overseas for a 1 1/2 to study aboard.
I am wishing you nothing but the best as you begin a new chapter in your life.Study hard and have fun :)
also[I ran out of space] don't be afraid to ask your sophomore roommates questions and adivce! I had a sophomore roomie when I was a freshman and she was really cool about helping me out and getting adjusted. AND this year I'm a sophomore going to have a fresman roommate and she's been asking me a lot and it makes me feel good to answer her questions and make her feel welcome! you're free to ask me anything too as long as its about college in general, not specific to Michigan State!
I'm a sophomore in college so I remember last year pretty well! I was SO nervous about moving out on my own and living with someone I'd never met before! But I just looked at it all as this BIG oppurtunity to meet new people and try new things and stuff. Going to college has been one of the best experiences of my life so far! I truely believe that I have met some of the best people I will ever meet in life! There's no need to be nervous, but I definitely understand how you're feeling!!!
ALSO[I ran out of room] don't be shy about asking your older roomies questions. I had a soph roommate as a freshman last year and she was cool about answering my questions and helping me settle in and stuff. and this year as a soph I'll have a fresman roomie and it makes me feel good to answer any of her questions! You're welcome to ask me questions too if you want, as long as they're not specific to MSU in Michigan because I go to MSU in Missouri! and I agree, MSU is a great school! ;) lol
Completely understandable to be nervous! I was a mixture of excited/freaking out when I moved to Portsmouth for Uni in the UK 2 years ago but you've no need to worry. It might take a few days to get settled in but I can pretty much guarantee that you'll love it! I'm changing Uni and starting a new degree in London when I head back so it'll be weird being a fresher (or freshman in US lingo) again but at the same time I can't wait to get back into the student lifestyle even if it'll be strangers!
I'm not terribly nervous about college. I'm lucky enough to live 20 minutes from Cornell and near 2 other colleges. Thus, I won't be needing to live in the dorms which will be nice. I still have 2 years before I go to college but I'm really looking forward to it. Good luck and hope you enjoy the experience.
im still a junior so im not going to college, but my brother's going to grand valley. it's his first year in college. at first, i was really sad that hes going so far away but now im excited to have his car & stuff lol :P. but i dont do well with change. i get really nervous & anxious but after like a couple days, i'd be excited to be on my own. good luck jeffrey :]
I leave in two weeks for college too! I'm going like five hours away from my house so I'm a bit nervous. Mostly I'm excited! It's gunna be so different, so much more freedom. Getting ready for the dorm room is crazy though. I made all of my friends get Skype haha. It's emotional and super exciting! =)
I am nervous as well. I mean it's exciting to start over fresh and new, more in the real world than high school was. But it's also nerve-wrecking....leaving your comfort zone.
I'm mostly scared for finding my way around. That's going to be a bummer... haha
I'm going into my third year at college in September, and I'm still nervous about it. lol. You'll be great though, Jeffrey. <3 You are going to LOVE it!
My best friend goes to MSU and I was (and semi-am) srsly considering transferring there. She loves it and I'm finally gonna get around to visiting her soonish. Good luck and have lots of fun! What's your major gonna be?
im moving from florida to new york in january for college... and its gonna be a BIG change for me... but im excited for a new andventure and nervous for the move lolz.... but good luck to u... hope u love it!!!
umm cyberboy... umm because i live in a very small town in florida.. and there is nothing here for me to do with my life, and i have family in New York.. and i think it will be a great opportunity for me to better my life

I'm going to be a sophomore at UNH (LET'S GO WILDCATS!!), and to echo what some people have said above:
Don't go home every weekend.
Meet as many people as possible, especially those on your floor.
Do stuff. Other than sit around your dorm room all day.
And bring a fan if your dorm doesn't have A/C.
But yeah, college is awesome! And if someone as socially awkward as me can survive in college and love it, then you can too!

I had a similar situation. I transferred into a different school in the middle of the year (spring semester) and the 3 people I roomed with had all lived together for the fall.
It was kinda awkward at first but they were really nice and tried to make me feel welcome and include me! I'm sure you'll experience the same!
Best of luck! :D

College is a great time in life!
bstaff88 2 years ago

UrkaDarling 2 years ago
You're going to love college so much! It's a lot of fun. your situation is definitely intimidating, but as long as you have an open mind I'm sure it will be okay. College is really fun and really hard and completely amazing. Don't over pack, you can always get more things at thanksgiving. And make sure you have really good boots for when it gets snowy.

AND this year I'm a sophomore going to have a fresman roommate and she's been asking me a lot and it makes me feel good to answer her questions and make her feel welcome! you're free to ask me anything too as long as its about college in general, not specific to Michigan State!
strawbehry85 2 years ago
I'm a sophomore in college so I remember last year pretty well! I was SO nervous about moving out on my own and living with someone I'd never met before! But I just looked at it all as this BIG oppurtunity to meet new people and try new things and stuff. Going to college has been one of the best experiences of my life so far! I truely believe that I have met some of the best people I will ever meet in life! There's no need to be nervous, but I definitely understand how you're feeling!!!
strawbehry85 2 years ago

Jeffrey, You're going to do spectacular. (: And I was thinking about going to Michigan State..When I graduate in 2011 lol.

I am nervous as well. I mean it's exciting to start over fresh and new, more in the real world than high school was. But it's also nerve-wrecking....leaving your comfort zone.
