  • It's perfectly clear that you need them posted in public buildings because congressmen are too busy to memorize them! Oops !

  • OMG, I'm an atheist and I know his own beliefs commandments better than he does, as he argues that we need the commandments, lest we lose our sense of direction in this world. Apparently he really doesn't think they are that important if he can't take 30 minutes to memorize them himself.

  • @sadiew1990 so if you're an atheist then you don't have a god so what is the point of putting "omg" at the beginning of your sentence.

  • @pappabear2010 lol, because if i say oh my god I must literally invoking a god? I use it cause it's an easy phrase to indicate disbelief, astonishment, or surprise at situation. It's the same thing when someone says "go f*** yourself." They aren't really telling you to go home and play with yourself. I say hell, god damn it, and oh my god on a daily basis; it doesn't mean I have to believe in a magical man in the sky is actually listening to my words. It's just a figure of speech. Geeze.

  • @sadiew1990 yes.

  • two people here also didn't know the 10 commandments

  • go get an education. if you don't, your going to become like him.

  • Hilarious

  • Ok, here's a list with what's wrong with this scenario:

    1. The 10 Commandments is part of the Bible, a religious text. America was founded on the ideas of both "Separation of Church & State" and "Religious Liberty." You can't rule a religiously free nation under 1 religious system.

    2. He's being interviewed by Stephen Colbert, a POLITICAL SATIRIST! What did he think was gonna happen?!

    3. He can't list them all so why should I believe anything he says in this debate?

    4. He's my Congressman.

  • He's right! The 10 commandments should be a part of modern-day law.

And sure ... I know they don't mention or prohibit harming or sexually abusing children, but those abused children need to honour their parents nonetheless. -Especially if it was their parents who did the abusing. That's the will of the Lord, and this politician is wise to recognise the Lord's will.

    Amen.

  • @arthurneddysmith They don't mention slavery either. Or equality of women and minorities. Or anything else that is helpful beyond the most basic stuff that we know just by being human anyways. The 10 Commandments are not particularly good to use for modern day law, especially when compared to some of the other ancient rules (some of which predate the 10 Commandments). It's just easy for Conservatives to make it a sticking point, but as it is clear... most of them don't even know what they ARE.

  • Wonder if he likes shrimps.

  • The ignorance of the religious is of a special kind.

  • damn this is my congress man

  • OMFG

  • What a derp

  • Everyone laughs at his ignorance, but is he ignorant? Do YOU know the 10 commandments? If he had mentioned the other commandments that are punished by death in the bible, you know, the ones no American follows maybe he would have lost a lot of votes. The silly commandments, you know, thou shalt not use the name of the lord in vain, or keep the sabbath holy. I would not be surprised if this interview was taken on a Sunday.BTW, the 10 commandments he wants to put there aren't even the real ones.

  • @TheBeerVolcano The ten commandments? Let's see how far I get: I am the Lord your God 1) You shall have no other Gods before me 2) You shall not worship or make false idols 3) Your shall not use my name in vain 4) You shall not commit an act of murder 5) You shall not commit an act of theft 6) You shall not bear false witness 7) You shall not covet your neighbour's wife 8) You shall not covet you neighbours possessions 9) honor your parents 10) remember the sabbath Had to look the last 2 up
  • @TheBeerVolcano I think a man who goes so far as prescribe the following of the Ten Commandments into law should know them inside and out, especially if he is so morally righteous about doing so. I sense that none of these politicians really give a shit about the validity of the 10 commandments. It's more about stirring up shit among the in-breds for "Jee~zus" crowd. Much like how the right wing pundits always ratchet up their annual "War on Christmas" bullshit around December.

  • this is what happens when people vote based on religious alignments.

  • @derekfnord Good point. It's funny how there are actually several versions. It's kind of like "You should believe in God?" "OK... uh, which one?"

  • i love these backroom interviews. I wish he did them more.

  • This is edited but the point was that he couldn't name them all. And that was clear. Most Americans probably can't.

  • THIS IS NOT A REAL INTERVIEW!

  • @SamPatriot Captain Obvious you forgot your cape!

  • edited...wheres the real one..

  • This is basically it - I edited out about a second right before Colbert says "What are the 10 commandments?" Nobody really says anything, it just made the video longer; this is a clip from the show & yeah it's real! I think it was just too much empty space, I forget really.

  • I mean I forget why really.

  • @fosponomot

The full clip is on the colbert nation website.

  • @fosponomot

    I've seen enough.

  • This man reminds me of the South Carolina teen.

  • can you upload all of it please???

  • Sorry, don't have it. God I wish I did!

  • @bettyjoon3

All the full colbert episodes and clips (including this one) are on the colbert nation website.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

  • That's my representative...a complete fail.

  • this is funny

  • This was hard to watch even as an Atheist haha...
