the only thing i can think of is an electrical propulsion system of some kind. maybe plasma? only reason being is the gas, or cloud seems to glow "after" the object is moved away. charge gas particles enough and they become a neon light. could just be a high altitude rocket that is high enough to to be in line of site with the sun, making it iluminated. the camera man being on the dark side of the earth would see this as "glowing", when in reality its just lit by the sun.

Do some research and you'll see. I would also suggest researching the fundamentals of plasma. The spiral itself has to do with electrical current, since we do live in an electrical universe. When a missle nozzle fails, it tends to spin around, I have seen this first hand with model rocket engines. China of course, is a country with the money and motive to test missles. What you are seeing is the light of the moon and rocket combustion reflecting off the smoke from the exhaust.

@Slav4o911 It's a rocket too - or missile. It's likely the same as the first one - a Russian Bulava-class Sub-launched ballistic missile. The symmetry is most likely due to the nature of the failure - 3rd stage separation. This means it would be around 160km altitude and travelling a few kilometers per second. The spiral is being viewed "end on" - from the side it would look more like a corkscrew :-)
