  • My cassette player took out a restraining order on this song

  • Love the vid effects - gratz, indeed!!! I bought this cassette in '84, and teh CD years later...

  • GREAT song

  • I forgot about this song. So awesome.

  • didnt this song come off of VINYL CONFESSIONS?

  • @u2joshuadesireu no, its an outtake from Drastic Measures

  • It sounds quite similar to Steve Walsh's work with Streets.

  • WHY? Why is the cover to Leftoverture in this video? That album DESTROYS anything Elefante was ever involved in.

  • Easy Andrew! It just looks like the slideshow was of a bunch of Kansas covers. Fits in with the theme of "Best Of Kansas" that this song is from. I hope you are doing well my friend!

    Rick

  • For anyone asking in the comments section below the participants in this song are as follows: Phil Ehart - Drums, Richard Williams - Guitar, Dino Elefante - bass, All other instruments and vocals - John Elefante. The song was written by the Elefante brothers and recorded in their Pakaderm studios.

  • @rickyon not KANSAS then ???

  • At the time this was recorded 50% of the members of Kansas participated. Rich,Phil and John

  • I like this song, but it's kind of depressing what started happening to Kansas once the eighties came.

  • Thank you for posting this - I can't WAIT to see them this summer in BAYFIELD, WISCONSIN at the Big Top!

  • @dragames For the record:your implication that the bible is against "sex" is completely off the mark. Like lots of people, you are condemning faith in the Scriptures based on something the Bible doesn't even teach.Have you ever read the Song of Solomon? Did you know the apostle Paul forbids husbands & wives from denying sex to each other. Sex within marriage was God's idea. He invented it. He made it lots of fun. It's the abuse of sex (homosex., adultery, bestiality, incest) that He condemns.

  • @sjplwc I'm glad someone else knows that. Stupid hollywood has everyone by the balls with their own interpretation of what's in the bible. If anyone actually took the time to read it themselves, they'd see that the christianity depicted in movies and on tv is completely fabricated.

  • 10 years since i used to borrow my parents old albums and yup...kansas still rules.

  • And to think now that I used to think this was YES. Seems I overlooked the entire North American continent before I discovered Kansas did this.

  • sounds a bit like genesis. just shows you the variety of music kansas played.

  • When a slipknot fan loves it to then you know it's AWZUME XD^^

  • I never get tired of these guys. They put on such a good show too. Boy oh boy does this take me back. Kerry L. reminds me of my English teacher in HS, OMG, if y'all were to see him, you would not believe your eyes. Oh my the days of HS. Class of 1975!

  • You are the one I love and it transcends space and time, if only you knew that Ive loved you from beginning of time and even when I die, you will ever be the one, I need to be with!!!!!!!

  • This is a perfect song.

  • never heard much from these before now i only heard of dust in the wind but they are definately growing on me very VERY quickly!

  • The band were always such deep thinkers.

  • NICE!!!

  • True masterpiece

  • I remember this tune. I was 11 it was the first time I heard this song. My Mum and I were driving the long road between Adelaide and Perth and this came on the radio somewhere in between. When we got home from visiting Grandma in Perth, we bought this record at the store. One the greatest Best of Albums I have ever heard.

  • just a great song. johns voice is superb!

  • I used this song for a school prodject. I fuckin rocks!

  • MASTER PIECE!

  • love the power chords here / great harmony too, my fav kansas tune, love going to dive bars and finding this on the jukebox -- half the crowd doesnt even know what it is, they just know it rocks.

  • GOD I LOVE THIS SONG

  • @slschesventer Your damn right!

  • @slschesventer god i love kansas

  • My favorite Kansas song. Wish i could dedicate it to my GF.

  • @IpQz Yeah, the problem being she's a he? :o

  • @dragames That's not very nice.

  • @wiz9496 homophobe.

  • @dragames Yes, I'm afriad of gays. Those fuckers carry AIDS.

  • @wiz9496 did you know that AIDS started as an endemic in africa amongst the heterosexual population. you want to think youre above certain things such as AIDS. the truth is NOBODY is immune to this. WAKE UP!!

  • @u2joshuadesireu AIDS is one of the most difficult diseases to catch. It is killing stupid, immoral people, and I think that's a good thing. There are too many stupid people in this world, and AIDS isn't a disease. It's the cure.

  • @wiz9496 Wow, that's so... wrong XD AIDs is an easily caught disease depending on method. I'm assuming you're some idiot who believes in the bible to think that something like sex is immoral. Some babies are born with AIDs, other people have been raped and given AIDs. then there're those that got AIDs from hospitals. The number of the last has dwindled in the last few years, but it still happens.

  • @dragames Thanks for the biology lesson, loser.

  • @wiz9496 Tomorrow we'll go in depth on why some men (like you) can't get it up :(

    Bring silly string to class.

  • @dragames dude shut the hell up!

  • @foxhoundofficial random comment made randomly for some sort of attention seeking while pretending to be some sort of righteous night for some weird cause that some random douche thought was necessary to post.

oh, how about make me :p

  • Here's the deal: when Kerry Livgren and John Elefante left Kansas in 1984, the old line up with Walsh came back and later removed this song in the digital remastering of the Best of Kansas CD.

The audio CD still has the song.

  • @gop4liberty yeah i know, If you search "Best of Kansas" on Itunes, Perfect Lover was removed completley and replaced with Portrait (He Knew) and The Pinnacle. However the track was retained when they re issued the CDS

  • Does anyone recall which remaining Kansas players participated in this song on the "

Best of Kansas. Was Livgren involved? I know Walsh and Steinhardt had left already.

  • an audio observation: it sure sounds like bryan duncan of sweet comfort band on backing vocals. can anyone prove or disprove that statement?

  • answered my own question. wikipedia had him listed as uncredited backing vocals on this song.

  • This song is hard to find now. I was on the original Best of Kansas as a new track. I had an old cassette of it. When they remastered the Best of Kansas years later for CD they took this song off.

  • I have a CD with it on the best of kansas i think... its an awesome song and its my favorite by kansas

  • Really? I bought the original Best Of some weeks ago on CD and "Perfect Lover" is still on it...

  • Yeah I believe this song was on the original Best of Kansas CD but was taken off when Kansas released the remastered Best of Kansas. I'm not sure how common the original CD is. I thought they stopped making them when the remastered version came out.

  • No, I actually meant that I have the remastered CD version of the original Best Of ;-)

  • im a techno lover, but i like some kansas songs

  • Fuckin' awesome song and you can't get it on the hits CD. What the hell..... what a great tune!!!!!

  • This song randomly gets stuck in my head sometimes. It's so darn catchy, lol.

  • I first heard this song when I purchased a Kansas greatest hits CD in the early 90s. This song instantly became one of my favorites! The music, vocal performance and subject are so powerful. Who hasn't contemplated their "perfect lover"?

    Thanks for posting!

  • the intro sounds i little bit like the intro of bryan adams-summer of 69

  • @nick00580

Yeah, it's more eerie to say that since both songs were recorded in 1984.

  • This presentation highlights the knack Kansas had for eye-catching album covers. Interesting without simply being weird -- that is, pleasant to look at paintings. I always thought the cover for Monolith (not pictured in this selection) was really cool and thought provoking.

  • @sjplwc compleatly agreed! Monolith has always been my favorite cover of theirs!

  • Outstanding song!! Thank you for posting!!

  • For another excellent, hard to find Kansas tune search I Command The Lightnings Hand! The end is cut off but unless you have the album/tape/c.d. it's difficult to find here on you-tube!

  • Really good song and really hard to find

  • I think they took this song off of The Best of Kansas because it really isn't a Kansas song! Every instrument is played by either Elefante or his brother! All the vocals are Elefante multi-tracked and the song was recorded in Elefante's studio(Pacaderm) and produced by Dino his brother! Don't get me wrong, I love this song and am really glad you posted it! I just wanted to pass along what I just recently found out about this song!

  • Yep, you're absolutley right. Even the lyrics are a little strange for a Kansas song, talking about a love??? Haha, most Kansas songs talk about mythlogical, spiritual things. A good song, none-the-less.

  • A kick ass song! What I love about it is the power mixed with the excellent vocals and the absurdity of the little kids plastic piano sound that somehow seems to fit perfectly! Overall a well written and crafted song!

  • Great song!! I like John Elefante's voice better than Walsh's.

  • A great Kansas tune that should have been kept on the Greatest Hits CD!

  • What an incredible song!

  • thanks so much for this post - can't stop listening to it - been a fan of elefante's for years...

  • GO JOHN ELEFANTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not an easy track to find anymore , thank you for the post , respect

  • Fucking amazing song, peoples.

  • great song!
