I am intermediate di bahasa Indo and have lived in the UK all my life, how long do you think it would take me to become fluent if I live in Indonesia?

i remember when i was in highschool, we had an australian coming to our class and he told me that he was surprised that indonesian boys or girls would hold hands when we walk together. i never thought it was weird coz i never thought about it before. arrrghh... that aussy dude destroyed my innocence. coz, afterwards i don't feel like holding hands with my friends. if i think about it now, its sad that such a thing could be considered wierd.
Hey, I'm doing a project on Indonesia and part of this project asks about non-verbal communication. What does it mean if an Indonesian is silent with another individual? This is called silent langauge, but I'm wondering if this means anything in Indonesia?
In Indo boys hold hands and girls hold hands, but not so much with each other. When I first saw an Indo man with his hand on another man's knee I thought they were gay,
later I learned they weren't and it is innocent behaviour. Our westernized sexualizing of such things is what ruins the comform for those here.
In Indo, kissing/grinding/inappropriate touching are not acceptable in public like they are in the west. In public you should be decent and respectful.
Hi Destri,I dont know if you received my message or not.But when you start making videos again, could you make a video blog for me about the diffrences between Indonesian holidays and u.S. holidays?
I don't know if this is true but did hear something about handshaking is appropriate for both men and women (in Indonesia) but as opposed to western culture it is a more gentle squeeze rather than our american "i'm trying to rip yer hand off". also something about in java, Pressing the palms together and gently touching the fingers.
My wife taught be that way of greeting. Also, if you feel specially touched by that person, touch your own chest, above the heart, with your right hand's fingers.
I truly appreciate your promptness. Would you mind if I put part of your video for my school project. I'm just asking because you apologized for your make-up (lol). Let me know if it's ok. Oh, I'm a girl too :)

In Indonesia, we shake hands but we do so limply. It isn't like America where someone crushes your hand.
Also, NEVER use your left hand to point, touch, or pass food. Unless your right hand is disabled, always use your right hand.
Nice job though. :)

I've been visiting Java, Jakarta mostly, yearly for the last few years. My fiance at the time, wouldn't allow me to kiss her in public.
I suggested going into an ATM at CGK to give her a kiss goodbye, she was open to that.
Hand holding is fine, actually to her it's expected.
In Bali, for some reason, it's a totally different situation. PDA is ok.
Here in the States, I notice people kiss, rather peck, but not really hold hands as much.
Just my observation from San Francisco, CA
