played shenmue when i was 13/14 , bought a dreamcast with metropolis racer and shenmue , one of the best games i have ever played everything is so well done , i sold my perfectly functioning dreamcast you have no idea how much i regret it now , really one of the forgotten gems of the dreamcast games !
I still own my saturn with Shenmue 1, I still own Shenmue 1 for the dreamcast as well, I couldn't get part two for the dreamcast so I bought an xbox for that game. It's very sad that Shenmue 3 still hasn't come out.

it's crazy to buy a console just for one game. sega made a big way down since genesis. they could have make shemue 1+2 for ps as well. if shemue 3 didn't come out because of the money SEGA has to overthink it's marketing drastically.
but you cannot hold a release back that closes the story. it's like writing a novel and skipping the end. why should anybody buy an uncomplete story?
People can make Shenmue 3 happen , unfortunately there is not nearly a patch on enough people at the moment to get Sega taking us seriously. Lots of people = Profit to businesses like Sega and they have to think financially sadly after bad times not long ago. We need 500k to a few million Shenmue fans/ gamers to really do something, but it's not impossible as some people are saying.

I remember that i had played it on dream cast and then switched to xbox but when i came back from the dominican republic to visit family the game froze and wouldnt work after that fat guy runs at you on the roof. The only reason that the first game came to be so expensive for dreamcast is that they added all the cost of the failed saturn attempt onto it. The game actually sold well... Over 1 million units. Shenmue 2 when released had import sales higher than any other video game up to that point.
Suzuki himself said in an interview that he had retired from sega's development team. Although he said he may remain on in a diminished capacity. So he's not completely gone.
The first Shenmue was the most expensive video game in history, I think until Grand Theft Auto 4 came out. And they didn't make much money on it. It was a miracle they made the second one.
Even if he could get the rights to the game, the amount of time and money involved wouldn't actually get them their money back. And I just don't think anyone involved is going to lose money on this if they can help it.

The hack disc is called Utopia. It's a boot disc that makes your NTSC dreamcast think it's PAL (and let's you play burned games too). I've played more games using this than regular games, and I've never had any kind of glitch or problems.

I theorise this could happen with the roumoured up coming sega consoles it would be a great opening title.
Though i feel this video may have been taken from shenmue online But i dont have clarification on that.

To YourNextBestFriend, if it the case you are working for Sega Europe, it is great that you are working on a shenmue game, so it means that at least the franchise is not dead, except that unless no one from Sega can read English, then they would realise that we are asking for Shenmue 3, not just a remake of a story we already know for another console.

Well sorry.. I don't make the decisions, I only make the games.. Shenmue is a real white elephant here, lost us a fortune and the DS version is the first step in refreshing and expanding the audience for the franchise.. If the DS version sells well, who knows whether SJ will pick it up again?

would be fun thought if someone opened a fund where everytime someone bought a old sega game the seller puts 1 dollar in the fund (if the game sold for $5 or more) and fr every $1000 we send it to sega of Japan

@akumie it doesnt matter that you play it on DreamCast or XBOX. as long as we like shenmue. Back to that time, i was yound and I didn't have money as well as chance to buy a DC. After DC had been stopped in production. i went for the XBOX version.

@akumie its not like that for all of us. I for one was a 6 year old when the first came out and was still busy with my n64. I had no idea about shenmue or the dreamcast until years later when I was in my teens. If I was old enough when the Shenmue games came out you can bet your ass I would have bought them.

I loved playing this game on my DREAMCAST....I still cant believe that they have not made it for PS3 nor XBox 360....
Can you imagine the graphics and story line in PS3 form, Wow it would blow people away... GAMERS everywhere would be crying of how sick the new SHENMUE game is.... I hope and Pray JAPAN wakes up and remakes this game to what its potential should be!....

I remember that i had played it on dream cast and then switched to xbox but when i came back from the dominican republic to visit family the game froze and wouldnt work after that fat guy runs at you on the roof. Then i had to buy it used and finished it just to be dissapointed by the end cave scene.

This is a trailer to the online shenmue game they decided to scrap.

The only reason that the first game came to be so expensive for dreamcast is that they added all the cost of the failed saturn attempt onto it. The game actually sold well... Over 1 million units. Shenmue 2 when released had import sales higher than any other video game up to that point.

Suzuki himself said in an interview that he had retired from sega's development team. Although he said he may remain on in a diminished capacity. So he's not completely gone.

The first Shenmue was the most expensive video game in history, I think until Grand Theft Auto 4 came out. And they didn't make much money on it. It was a miracle they made the second one.
Even if he could get the rights to the game, the amount of time and money involved wouldn't actually get them their money back. And I just don't think anyone involved is going to lose money on this if they can help it.
We need a crazy millionaire to help us out. :)

The UK version is what you're looking for. And you can use a US dreamcast (just need the hack disc, which can be downloaded).

The hack disc is called Utopia. It's a boot disc that makes your NTSC dreamcast think it's PAL (and let's you play burned games too). I've played more games using this than regular games, and I've never had any kind of glitch or problems.
