  • My fav was from 1:28 to 1:52

  • ^^ I'm glad the video helped!

Good luck on your playing~ =]

  • The slightest off on tempo mid-way...I would say but lately my ears have been slow to receiving sound. =_=. Bad I know.

Aside from that problem of mine, it has been a while since I have listened to classical music and much longer since I have played the piano. My radio use to be able to provide it in my region but now a days it is difficult to come across.

This was a treat to hear. Beautifully done. Please keep up the practice. =)

  • hmm I THINK I know where you're referring to, so don't worry about your ears ;P

haha then good thing there's Youtube! =D but don't stop listening or playing!

  • Wow. You're really amazing. How long have you been practicing (piano in general)? I wish I could play like you. ]=

  • Thanks! I've been playing for about 11 years ^^

  • No wonder. O:

    It shows [;

  • Is there someplace online i can find the sheet music for this? I have a book of different beethoven pieces somewhere and this is in it but i seem to have misplaced it:]

  • I wish I could help, but I've yet to find an online score..):

  • I watched a lot of videos of this sonata and there are so much people, who barely play the allegro ...and it just sounds pretty bad because they lack of speed. You play it pretty good, and it shows that you spend a lot of time in that piece, not like the other novices =D

Well too bad the video is not complete =(

    Well done :D greetings

  • haha well thank you~!

  • Excellent! 5 stars! :)

    Karl (your piano friend)

  • Thanks ^^

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Thank you ^^

  • wow!! perfect

  • haha thank you!

  • I think it's a bit too fast...my teacher said i shoul play it less fast....^^

    but i like your version

  • You mean the slow or fast section?

    And thanks ^^

  • Hey I dont think its too fast, rather a bit too slow. I really do like the interpretation of Freddy Kempf... and he plays it really fast and impressive.

  • I like Freddy Kempf's too~! unfortunately, I'm not yet skilled enough to play it as fast as he does...

  • This is what makes Beethoven and Bach inherently hard, technical demands notwithstanding. Without understanding what the musical development is and then making your audience hear and care about it, things quickly get boring.

Sorry about spamming you with comments but I wanted to make it clear what I meant with examples. Please ask me questions if something doesn't make sense, and perhaps ask your teacher to spend some time on this aspect of the playing.

  • Wow! I truly appreciate your taking the time to give me all these great suggestions and analysis! (they're not "spam" at all)

I'll be sure to try playing the way you said =)

  • cont. With beethoven (more so that any other romantic composer), you have to make sure that you understand the structure each phrase and then how the many phrases work together - the greater structure of the piece. Unlike Chopin for example, where there is one melodic line, it's straightforward and the development is easy to follow, Beethoven forces you to lay it out carefully for your audience so that they can follow.

  • Allegro(cont cont): Again, more contrast, at an important point in the phrase because we expect a nice smooth resolution to the phrase (the authetic cadence starts in meas 8 and resolves in 9), but the dynamics, with the subito piano, aren't congruent. Get this right and it builds the tension. Miss it, and you loose a lot of the emotional impact.

Can you see how Beethoven uses this and other patterns to build the tension throughout the movement? This is what makes the piece work.

  • Allegro(cont): Don't forget the sf in the third measure (of the phrase), it's so important. Beethoven is going along with a pretty standard chord progression and then you have a i to I (minor tonic to an unexpected major tonic). The sforz highlights this and is essential to the mood and character of the music. Continuing in the phrase, it's still p until the gradual crec in measure 5, and then the beethoven tradmark crecendo to subito piano in meas 9.

  • Grave (cont.): These big sudden dynamic changes are everywhere, at least once every measure except 8 and 11.

Allegro: Once again, pay careful attention to the dynamics to understand what beethoven is all about. You have a nice, relaxed almost cantabile way of playing but it makes this piece sound like mozart or scarlatti. Thake the first phrase for example. Starts piano, but with the ominous LH tremolo and whispering RH, it should sound uneasy and full of tension.

  • You've got the notes down, and with a little more work you could have a real knockout of a piece. Beethoven is all about big contrasting statements here, and you've got to milk these.

Grave: Don't be afraid of some rubato for dramtic effect. And those fp dynamic markings are really important. Try to think of them as fppp. There are a few other forte to subito piano moments in this section. This sort of thing is Beethoven's trademark, especially the crecendo to subito piano.

  • 10. fermata longer prehaps? finger legato chords on RH bar136 towards the pp fermata.

    11. bar149 onwards RH tremolo plays a pedal point role. try to get louder then softer rather than maintaining a constant volume.

    12. bar245 to 250 your mordents seem to break the melodic flow, maybe needs more practise?

good playing, commendable spirit. keep up the good work! =)

  • Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to give me all these great suggestions! I appreciate it very much ^^

I'll try my best to improve my playing =)

  • your're welcomed. i play the grave section more slowly and calculated rhythm though. counting the demisemiquaver, 1234 1234 etc. dont think we can go like 123 4-1 234 4-1 234 if u get what i mean.

  • ohh...I understand...I'll try that =)

  • 6. try to poco rit. at bar49,50 and give some shape too.

    7. a dialogue takes place when ur RH crosses over ur LH bar51 onwards, play the base soft and careful, and the notes on the treble with more shine. if not the jumping will sound monotonous. (except for bar64,67 observe sf marking on bass)

    8. mordents clean and clear.

    9. we may make a exception for the transition bar89 onwards that the inner voices can be muffled by the pedal to sing out the Eb top voice.

  • 1. Finger legato RH melody in bars 5 onwards (espressivo parts)(if ur hand span allows).

    2. Take a breath at ffs on bar5 and 6.

    3. Allegro brio section start soft like something is creeping from nowhere and observe the melody line (phrasing shape) although staccato.

    4. bar28,32 make the 1st beat G on the LH heard for the rhythmic structure.

    5. use the pedal to help give the tremolo richness in bar38,42 and this will contrast to the p bars following immediately after.

  • OOOOO. loud song XD

    Suprendous! nice playing =D

    looks tiring XD

i heard someone play this at my recital last year...

i wanna play XD..one day..although i doubt my piano teacher would let me play it till ARCT or at least grade ten...

so are u playing this for anything? like competition/recital or just playing it?

  • XD thanks

    not that bad...

yeah you should learn it ^^ I heard that they can't decide if it should be for grade 10 or ARCT...but I played it for my grade 10 exam, so...I kinda think it should be for ARCT though...pretty hard.

  • hey! upload the second movement..i like it :D

  • haha I'll try...

  • Mm..nice =D my hand gets so sore and tired from playing the left hand part..=(

  • thanks ^^

haha mine did too at first, but after months of practice I hardly notice I'm playing tremolo at all xD

  • Waugghhh! I was listening to it and doing my homework and such, and all of a sudden it stopped, and I didn't read the vid description until too late... xD

But wonderful playing nonetheless; sounds pretty similar to mine =)

How long did it take you to learn this?

Were your fingers sore? My left hand was, and still is.... :3

  • And do upload the second movement! =D

  • hahaha XD yes...my stupid camera...T__T

lol I'm sure your playing's much better than this! ^.~

  • I haven't had my exam yet, so I'd have to say yours is more....refined?? lol

And my teacher was kind of meh after I chose this song immediately after she said it was supposed to be in ARCT level...hahaha

  • Great performance , well done :)

  • Thanks! ^^

  • The music is excellent on this one as per usual. However, on this one a really like the expression you have in your body movment.

  • Thank you very much! I like making my playing expressive XD

  • btw...I did record the 2nd movement as well, but I can't find it in my camera T___T (maybe accidentally deleted?)

If you'd like me to upload the 2nd movement, just let me know (and I'll try recording again XD)
