What are your thoughts now considering the new findings of Dr Trevor Marshall and Dr. Greg Blaney that low serum levels of 25D are actually the result of illness or compromised immune system and not the cause of these conditions? That the issue of sufferers is too much 25D being converted to 1,25D? They claim 25D is an immuno-suppressive providing temporary false relief by reducing inflammation (like prednisone, etc) but further compromises the patient regarding the causal microbia.
whats your opinion on actually getting all you need from organic good old fashioned food, daylight and freshair from nature ? wink wink ;)
im not convinced that man has the ability to extract all that is good from say an orange in the form of vitC .. i think the whole complicated structure is needed for any real benefit
Respond to this video... and your right the form of vitamin c in oranges has other linked molecules such as bioflavanoids, and in synthetic vitamin c it is only ascorbic acid, which looks completely different. However whole food supplements are becoming more popular now so have a look out for them!
HI Dr Vikki - wow - i am reconsidering my vitamin intake. I am up to 4000iu per day of D3 with little effect on my levels (<25). I had no idea I should also take A in beta-carotene form. In fact I was using up my old preganany vitamins and there is 0 vitamin A included. Can D deficiency increase lactose and gluten intolerance?
@MsSparkleArkle 1000iu/daily per 25lbs is usually required but people with Celiac often require double that amount. You can use up to 10,000iu/daily without problems.
Best taken with the largest meal of the day.
Oil based capsules very effective better than solid tablets..

@dietodaydotcodotuk Some people have difficulty converting sunlight into vitamin d in the body...so supplementation is required..

Magnesium status also affects vitamin D uptake.
5 to 10mg per day per kg ideal body weight
70kg ~ 150lbs = 350 mg. to 700 mg.magnesium daily.
mag citrate or mag malate
mag oxide poorly absorbed.
Split dose between each meal of day and before bed.
Mag chloride/ mag sulphate Dead Sea Salts or Epsom salts in bathwater if digestive system damage prevents uptake.
Other vitamin D co factors (that allow vitamin D to work properly) worth checking are zinc, vitamin K2, boron, genistein
