  • ahah these guys are cool

  • Good, classic Devo. One of their best looks, right here in this video. Perfectly plastic. Mark Mothersbaugh in the zone of almost perfection. Timeless whiteness. Art. Extremely happy sadness. And they all had a good hair day!

  • i went to see DEVO when i was a teen ...many many moons ago ....love the treadmills in the concert ,there hair pieces, red cone hats and yellow suits where thrown into the crowd ,AWESOME still ...from CHRSTCHURCH ,NEW ZEALAND

  • A tune which reflects the do-nothing/forget-you-I've-got-mine attitude of both political parties. Is America truly moving forward?

  • this has to be a joke

  • These guys are still awesome 30 years later, their live work is among the best I have seen and I have seen everything from Elton John to Rammstein.

  • What TV show is this from?

    Thanks in advance.

  • @GrantTarredus Saturday Night Live (30 something years ago?). I remember watching specifically for DEVO. They also played Through Bein' Cool. Great use of the treadmill waaaaay before OK Go!

  • @GrantTarredus

The show is "Solid Gold". It was one of those music shows like "American Bandstand". The thing I remember most about the show is the "Solid Gold Dancers" (the dancers you see in the video).

  • @GrantTarredus Pretty sure the previous two answers are incorrect. This would be 1981, the New Traditionalists album era, and the only show they did back then was Fridays.

  • @ 4tuneagent That's SOOOO true!!! The were SOOOO unique, different N ahead of their time that lots of people, including me, didn't know WHAT to make of 'em! Except for Whip It, it took me a little bit back then to get used to it N have 'em grow on me! Genius is Genius tho, N even if it DOES take a minute, I WILL warm up to it! How can anyone not???

  • en que año fue eso? por los 70s?

  • @PERUTECHNO el single fue lanzado en 1981 y pertenece al album "new traditionalists" del mismo año, debe ser mas o menos en esa epoca.

  • @MrGuillermowilliams OK gracias

  • bad bad lip-syncing

Check the 1981 'Fridays' videos if you want more than Devo-dancing

  • Wow... It's like Krafwerk got rubbed the wrong way by the Sex Pistols and decided they don't give a F$%* anymore....

    This is brilliant

  • DAYyum.

2:55 Speaker Boner is fixin to break off his Napoleon. Take it easy, Speaker Boner !

  • if there was a video time capsule, this song has to be in it.

  • Devo kicks ass!

  • I remember watching this on a new network station in Detroit when it first came out. I laughed my ass off but loved the music. Devo was one of a kind and their songs endure. By the way, the show way back then was called VH-1 and they had a Thomas Dolby video on the same half-hour show.

  • I seen Devo Live Twice. The second concert was followed by an After Party with Our Daughter's Wedding playing live in Greek Town. It was Awsome!

  • I saw Devo play live twice. The second concert, was followed with an after party in Greek Town with Our Daughter's Wedding. dancandell, It was Awesome! (P.S.- I also remember that VH-1 Show)

  • Tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunee!!!!!!!! :D

  • EXCELENT!! THE BEST!!!! THANKS, DEVO, VERY THANKS!!!

  • They were, they are totally underrated over here in Germany. I have all of their records and wish I could see them live.

  • @Soton1912 I saw them in 1981 in Kansas City, Mo. The best damn show I ever saw.

  • Its like breakdancing: although 100 times slower. Still goood shit tho ;0)

  • 4tuneagent - Amen to that statement brother - AMEN!!!

  • Devo is superior because they are one of a kind unique band who are still ahead of their time, have always written great songs and perform them to a degree of perfection as talented musicians. The futuristic and mutated edge to the music is also basic and primal, setting them apart and in their own category. And, they totally rule!..

  • Some people should learn about what the're talking about before they open their mouths or I should say before they write. Sad people. When will you learn. All I Know is that Devo KICKS ASS!

  • this song is awsome!

  • Devo rock - the greatest band ever. Check out Gut Feelin live at Irvine Meadows

  • classic devo

  • Devo was the very fist concert I ever attended in Austin, Tx in the early 80's... One of the best concerts in a small venue I have ever seen to this day. I saw Metallica in that same hall shortly aftwerwards another great one.

  • There are 9 people who are Jerking Back and Forth right now!

  • the back up dancers arent getting enough credit, they rule

  • @11thDimensionalBarlo i was thinkin' the same thing

  • yep, sounds way too perfect to be live. Why did they have to pretend? they could have done a great job without it

  • @junkyturd Lipsyncing in TV isnt done because the band wants to, its done because the show wants to

  • so fresh it makes me want to cry.

  • @johnrx9243: I agree; Fridays was a great show, as inversely demonstrated by this clip, which is from Solid Gold - a chintzy lip-synced American answer to Top of the Pops. The Solid Gold Dancers at left and right stages hint at it, then Mr. Top-40-Announcer at the end cinches it. By contrast, Fridays was not only strictly live, they gave Devo artistic control to the extent of synced-up video effects. Still, this clip is a tribute to Devo's ability to shine through lip-syncing conventionalism.

  • GOOD .

  • this song is beast!

  • New traditionalists I believe is Devo's final form, before they themselves started de-evolving. Oh no it's devo was the top of the roller coaster, and after shout, and total devo, they lost it. Smooth noodle maps was better than shout and total devo, but worse than oh no it's devo. Something for everybody is a good step away from smooth noodle maps, but it doesn't quite have the sound we all loved from are we not men to freedom of choice.

  • horrible lip-sync, wich reveals many times that this is just fake studio-crap.

but the guys are so in the groove!

all in all i would call this 80s devo-synth-punk! :D

  • This is all pre-recorded. I'd love to see a real live version.

  • Great to have all that footage of Alan Myers. Amazing drummer.

  • Forgot all about this song. Time to dig out the vinyl!

  • Fridays was a great show. Aired the early 80's. Best thing is they had great musical groups. I remember they all lip sync which sucked.

    BTW ....we're all devo.

  • it doesn't get better

  • One of the hippest things I've ever seen!

  • Insanely good. The backup dancers were workin it, the guys had the choreography with their instruments, they were just all over it!

  • Devo, Fishbone, Living Colour ARE the future !

  • I saw this concert tour for "New Traditionalists" in 1983, one of the best concerts ever and I have seen them all.

    Thank you guys.

    We are all DEVO!

  • lol that voice at the end is SO devo

  • i want to be a DEVO dancer.

  • one of my favorite songs, too many of their songs are completely underrated.

  • ROBOT ROCK!!!

  • saw them live when i was in 8th grade and nearly passed out from all the pot smoke !

  • gotta LUV them. Never duplicated !!!!! <3 Have to be one of my all time favorites!!

  • gotta LUV them. Never duplicated !!!!! <3

  • fuckin splendid new wave hardcore DEVO

  • great song fun band

  • what a fun band

  • How did they make this song into a kids song with dev2.0? What a tune.

  • 0:35 cat daddy

  • Same here. I lived in a northern Canadian town, and Devo was so much more interesting than all the heavy metal stuff that everyone else was listening to. I found them cool, but mostly they made me laugh. I'll love them forever.

  • they synth sound on this album is so unique. i bought this when it came out and have loved it ever since.

  • @kookoocardboard I love those fat heavy thick synths!

  • They defined an aspect of the era like no other, actually changed music and design. PLUS - their latest album (2010 at this time of writing) is amazing.

This is one of those bands that lives inside so many other bands, shows, and cultural areas that we don't even know!

  • Awesome, but you should've kept the arpeggio

  • gotta love the "Bob" hair

  • love these dudes.

  • 0:35

  • I remember this song so well. I used to have the record and I would play it over and over again.

  • Best US band of all the times! ))

  • FUNNY !!!

  • We're all DEVO!

  • I love their phat azz synths!

  • hahahahahaaaa...to the goof comparing Devo to Fleetwood Mac! Hey, let's just say I prefer Kurt Cobain's voice to Dean Martin's....so Kurt MUST be better!!!!!

Moron. It's two totally different genres of music. Fleetwood Mac was a well-respected pop-rock unit with some hit records back in the day. Devo was a ground-breaking new wave - electonica - pop act that influenced many artists that followed after them. Devo changed things and inspired discussion. Fleetwood Mac never did.

  • @88guilly88 they were new wave-not electronica(which is a made up term fpr the record companies)

  • Devo is in a different league that Fleetwood Mac, with all due respect to Stevie and the boys. This is art...nuf' said.

  • hmm... not really a Devo fan haha... I'd say Fleetwood Mac is a much better band from the 70's.

  • @sports444life idiot - 'nuf said.

  • @ProbertFire free speech.

  • @sports444life FM was a band from the 60's that had a 70's super hit album out of the blue with Rumors , wasn't even the original line up of the band except for the bass player and one of the singers, if I remember correctly. All around the time with Super Tramp, ELO, Steve Miller, et al. Devo was cutting edge, totally original and just plain weird. Gotta love 'em. Any band that can still look bizarre 30 years later has got to be doing something right.

  • @BOHICAAIRSOFTER Ha you are right man, they are just so weird!

  • What you get when you cross Kraftwerk with Captain Beefheart, inspired.

  • Devo are responsible for the decay of America. Thank goodness they died peacefully in the early 80s!

  • @mistersmith6000 actually they are back. and their theory of de-evolution was correct im sad to say.

  • @GeorgeDeadson - Yes, and they are back and they were right all along about De-Evolution. Unfortunately they have heavily de-volved themselves - I have heard one of their new songs - sucks

  • @mistersmith6000 really? I like the new album.

  • boy and girl have messy sex , no babys come what happens next.... Devo

  • Rawwk it!

  • Cut and paste for full 1980 concert

  • @preciousbash Send me a message and I will send you a link to a full 1980 Devo concert. For some reason when I try to post the link in a message it reads error and won't work GRRRR!

  • So ahead of their time!!! always love them

  • David Murray i could have had you but i was a slut

  • eyes all around!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is soooo badass.

  • DEVO BETTER MAKE THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME REALLY SOON or I'M GONNA GO BLOW IT UP !!!!!!!! NOW THAT'S DEVOLUTION

  • @marc08110 YEAH!!! They are so awesome and original & chenged the face of music. Can't imagine having no Devo songs to listen to!!! Sadness!! :0(

  • I bet the would get tired of doing that air-humping thing after all those years!?

  • that big dicked allstar synth solo/dance moves just owning all of our faces and getting them all the sex in the world at the same time.

if all i have to do is have plastic hair and a treadmill to be so badass then fucking sign me up.

  • @alucardisdumb hahaha....might help if you had their talent! I doubt that

  • @dvdfan2010 you saying i dont?

  • devo rocks

  • one of those songs that sounds so much better live.

  • to my High school crush David Murray this song is for you

  • Jerry looks like Freddie Morgan with that pomp! Do a youtube search for "You Always Hurt the One You Love Spike Jones2" He's the one on the left (well, it's pretty obvious!)

  • Comment removed

  • Their early albums were great, but later on they lost their magic for awhile.

They had a few good songs though, on later albums I must admit.

  • Techno plastic maniacstic electroglastic jerkamatic greatness.

  • this is one of the most epic things i have ever seen

  • I remember watching this when it originally aired on Solid Gold 1981, I think

  • This should be the Shake Weight theme song.

  • @EP12004

    good one!

  • DEVO!!!!!!!!

  • I don't recall EVERY seeing this .... was this some weekly show that DEVO was on way "back in the day?" On what show was this broadcast? I would have lost my mind if I'd seen this when it was originally broadcast ... I was INSANE for these guys at that time frame. Ah, yes, good old 1980's. Those were the days, huh?

  • @jesusiseverything2me

    Shuddup jesus freak.

  • @jddeitz2000 - you're obviously an idiot. I am PROUD to be a "Jesus freak." I used to make fun of people like me too ... you obviously are not saved. Feeling sorry for you, but really don't care that much. Go on and go to Hell if you want .... that's your choice. Also, don't know why you'd reply "shuddup." First of all, it's "shut up" and second of all I was not replying to anything that you posted .. I was just aksing about the show ... so why would I need to "shut up?"

  • @jesusiseverything2me shut up jesus freak

  • @jesusiseverything2me

    lol u mad sheep-brain?

  • I actually watched this episode when i was about 12 , i always loved this band and it`s honest look on everything....thank you for this vid...sincerily Matt

  • Devo kick ass!!

  • DEVO!!! Such a great song! Ahead of it's time...Just like the band. Spud 4ever

  • i have that sleeveless astronaut turtleneck and it's the coolest

  • Devo was on VH1's One Hit Wonders, which is stupid! Hello? I guess they never heard THIS awesome song! I like it better than Whip It!!

  • i bet electronic drum sets were expensive as shit back then

  • @tremer88

Devo actually invented one of the first sets of electronic drums. Look up 'Secret Agent Man'.

That's going a while back. And yes. They made those drums. They should have put a patent on it.

  • kudos to the guy who says he had ebay in the 80s LOL

  • Devo are the only great modern artists who also rock. Really!

  • Please join us on FACE BOOK to bring DEVO as musical guest & MOLLY RINGWALD as hostess to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!

  • lady gaga has NOTHING again this guys...theyre awesome!

  • To those you claim Devo ripped off Kraftwerk: You are so wrong! Devo is American rock 'n' roll through and through, Kraftwerk is European kraut rock, art rock. Totally different. Both bands were ironic, mechanical and robotic, they used machines that made funny noses, and had space-like uniforms, but that's about the only similarities. Both are great!

  • Truly

  • @awarenessis there is a face book page trying to get DEVO as musical guest & MOLLY RINGWALD as host... please sign the page.

  • please! you better not be ripping off kraftwerk

    hell no!

  • Haha, so funny and robotic! Devo att their very best! New Traditionalists for ever!

  • So Devo were on this show with alot of country western acts ! I mean, did you catch all that at the very end there ? .. Mickey Gilley and The Little River Band ?!! Not that I have anything against country music, but Devo must've really stuck out here and blown alot of mindes !

  • Oh no, it's DEVO...awesome band...unmatched! Got my official DEVO DOO from the Devo Store!

  • Oh no, it's DEVO...awesome band...unmatched!

  • That's my shit. I was born too late-barely out of diapers when the Spuds were at their peak. So all I have is the videos

  • que bandooooonnnnnnnnnnnn¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡....................

  • This song is COMPLETELY anti-government & here in a few years you will see first hand the damage thats been done.

  • Wow, take the time to investigate before you critique something someone says. AND it would appear now Devo has had a change of heart for their support of obama. AND the SICK notation next to the vatican & the "holy city" was Read the documents from the scribes, bishops & other leaders of EARLY catholicism... THEY KNEW what was going on. There is SO much deception... its just time people were awakend to the REAL truth.

  • @eatatmargos Uh, what? Attempting to get a national health care plan is 'treasonous'? Really? Funny, I think those who would rather give all our money to insurance companies are more treasonous, but there ya go. As for the Vatican being responsible for this, that's probably one of the silliest most sickly paranoid delusions I've heard here lately.

P.S. "holy city" is spelled correctly, and thus does not receive a (sic) notation. Idiot.

  • AH... again, the CONSTITUTION has NO provision for "National Health Care" is my point. You REALLY think that law is to help people... you have no idea whats going on behind the scenes... look up HR 825 or its HR 875... one of the NEXT things they (the government) are going to make it IMPOSSIBLE to buy VITAMINS off the shelf, you will HAVE TO GET THEM PERSCRIBED BY A DOCTOR.

  • i thought this was a jerkin song LOL O WOW

  • im bout to get a shirt like that with the red turtleneck and the astronaut and stuff, they have them on their website for sale now.

  • Solid G dancers are hilarious!!! DeVo.....light years ahead of their time. Thank the LORDS for DeVo!!!

  • Devo and Mickey Gilley on the same show!!!

  • I miss the days when Devo were on TV ALL OF THE TIME!!!

  • Holy crap, i remember this......gotta love the Solid Gold dancers......lol.

  • damn i wish the video was in sync with the audio

  • This is the stage set I first saw them in in 1981. Or was it 1891? It was on the CU campus in Boulder CO. What a great show!

  • tremendous!!

  • This sounds even better than the studio version. The background dancers are quite annoying though..

  • @Findusfot Whatcha talking about ..this is the studio version...clean yer ears

  • Gee I suppose I must've been tricked into thinking it was better by the awesome video then.. -.-'
