used to love the Vue, always remeber Smithy, Cronny, Willie, Noddy, Close, Wildwolf pulling on to track, that had to be the biggest buzz out, then the racing ......much missed
was there that night, remember it well use to be a len wolfenden fan [190] thought i came from rochdale and did a bit off pit work for doug cronshaw [396] .not as good as the world final at belle vue were smithy got held up and the wolf got away smithy hounded him down for the last 3 lap`s, sadly carnt remember ho won or the year mid 80 though
The orange flshing lights were superstar lights for the top ten drivers as i remember. loved the vue. world final nights were fantastic. "gentlemen - start your engines" then off on the rolling lap to e.l.p fanfare for the common man.
wow this takes me back!! wot a race for lundy!! quite sure lund used to have 2 amber flashing lights on top of his car like truck indicators... am i right? thank you for sharing this vid!
I bet Smithy had decided he had no choice but to go for Lundy a bend earlier than he should have due to Close being in the fence at the other end and a yellow flag. He was a very clever racer. He read races well.
deffo not like the old days - and typical Smithy action - Personally I remember he tried the same at the Wembley meeting mid 80's on the last lap - did he win? - nah! 37 Don Evans takes the flag!
brisca, spedeworth, football and F1 - money talks in the end... ipswich speedweekend was the best but money again and health N safety has ruined that...CHEERS FOR POSTING
Classic stuff, remember being there, the stand was shaking good old bellvue.... anyone who hasn't been for years try it again , faster and even more furious a better sight you will find hard to beat .....
Formula 1 is boring now all the Cars look and sound the same no character whatsoever, I am glad I watched the golden era of Formula 1 from being a 4 year old watching Stu Smith at Belle vue in 1969 up to 1980 went every week to tracks all over the North and Midlands. went to that 50th Anniversary meeting at the new imitation Belle Vue, the old Cars were interesting but the meeting was very disappointing :(
Used to love going to see F1 Stcok Car Racing as a kid. Willie Harrison #2 was my hero..lol Bradford was my local track...and now I have a 70 mile round trip to see it it once a month if I'm lucky. The noise, the smell, the excitement, the punding in your chest from the sheer ferocity of the engines....can't beat it, but it's a real shame I can't see it locally anymore.
this is what you get for only having 165 registered drivers in 2007 (3 x 55) and so few tracks in England only; it's no longer a national sport! "old 229fan"
why is the best BRISCA stockcar video 21 years old? Has stockcar racing changed that much (for the worse) between 1986 and 2007? It looks a lot like it!"229fan"
Its similar, very similar, but personally i feel that it is never as exciting as when i watched smithy and wolfy. Along with all the others like wainman, powell, pursey, finnikin, Harrison, mellor at tracks like Bellvue, but bradford was the place. And the tracks still there.
it was like watching a world final most weekends. that was the commitment on track. the cars cost now and guys dont stick it in like they did. now and again they do. there was more character in the racing. games between smith and wolf were fun. fans blasted their horns when their driver entered the track.smith and wolf fans were in competition to make noise. i remember smithy let len through at bradford, tarmac, then left him with 2 tyre on tarmac and 2 on the pit wall.
or when len foamed stus car @ rochdale. stu fired up, pulled out of line up ,backed up reved up and shaled and sit up len and his car. very funny times. there are not these characters. thats all thats missing. i still enjoy the racing now but not like the eighties. that was a special time for myself and stockcars. many memories we all have. pity more isnt on video
I can just remember this race I was just in front of the jane bean crash, classic smithy giving it everything, not forgetting a great drive by lundy and close, more from that great racetrack please
Classic Stu Smith action launching everbody that mattered into the fence!!! the man knew how to use the bumper better than anybody!!!!

How the hell Lund held it on the last bend while being pushed, in a 400+bhp V8 and on loose shale I'll never know. 3 amazing legends
RIP Dave Edwards & Belle Vue

Great to see this old clip. As a kid was a regular at Belle Vue, Odsal, Blackburn & Nelson - until I got into Football.
I've still got my old membership card for the Frankie Wainman fanclub - 212 :)
