@vuur150 They give more wing surface meaning more uplift. It's mostly used during landing. And sometimes on takeoff aswell. You can use it if you have to fly slowly, under the minimum speed of no flaps.

i know its too big for a carrier to be on deck or put into a hangar down below. however, they've landed many times for refueling and loading purposes and things like that......and why would they only test it? to chance wrecking a carrier control tower? come on man, the military doesnt just simply "test" things like that. they do all the math first to make sure it will work. i.e. no stab in the dark tests. good day.

this is just the arma 2 engine being stupid again, if you land in the right angle you will receive damage to youre aircraft but stop instantly. check the video he lost about 40% of his vehicles armor. cant believe people are actually discussing scripts and cables here
