To my conclusion the word CREOLE is just a race issue. She is Lousiana Creole, but where did most of the Louisiana Creoles come from? You may want to do research on the Haitian refugees of Saint Domingue before you start running your mouth.

More like a dialect of French (depend on the regions though). Most of its vocabulary comes from French, even very old French, and it is very easy for a French speaker and a creole speaker to understand each other after a short period of adaption. It is why I have a French last name and thats why I am intrigued about the history and culture. I am mixed of a lot of things but I consider myself a white American. I do not think Usher is Haitian.

To my conclusion the word CREOLE is just a race issue. In my understanding of the way america was so racist back in those days, they used the word creole to refer to a haitian person rather to just simply call them haitian, espically if you were a haitian of european descent. Being that most haitians were looked down upon because haiti was the first freed black country in the westeren hemishepre.

No one is hating Haitians, at least, I'm not. But, I do know my history, more importantly, my family history. My grandfather was born in 1875 so, I was able to trace my "creole roots" well. Here in Louisiana, we are not creoles due to the Haitian immigration(1809). Black creoles had been in Louisiana long before that. Just look up the definition of a Louisiana Creole. Now, I can't make you see what you don't want to..but, it doesn't change what's true.

En Haiti aussi, on dit bonjour de plusieurs facons; Sak pase?= qu'est-ce qui se passe? ; koman ou ye?= comment allez-vous? le creole Haitien est aussi un melange de Francais et des dialectes Africains, et tres souvent c'est une deformation du Francais que les esclaves n'arrivaient pas a bien prononcer. J'essaie souvent a trouver de quelles expressions francaises viennent des mots du creole.

nah, the term creole means, in general, any language which is a mixture of various languages. but there is the language called creole also, which is french based. however, the haitian one, which she spoke, is way different than the other ones, because it has some english and spanish words and terms in it

Precisely, different creoles have different mixtures. I speak Mauritian Creole and cannot understand what she or the man said, this is because Mauritian creole is largely french-based, with mixes from various African and Indian languages.

More like a dialect of French (depend on the regions though). Most of its vocabulary comes from French, even very old French, and it is very easy for a French speaker and a creole speaker to understand each other after a short period of adaption. The creole I speak is extremely close to French and even closer when you're educated as you tend to borrow French words and use them unaltered.

The refugees of Saint Domingue (Haiti) were the wealthiest of the French Citizens in the Western Hemisphere. The Louisiana economy wouldnt have been what it was in the early part of the 1800with out the Saint Domingue refugees. Louisiana was an after thought to the French in France but was a place of opurtunity for families that couldnt make it in Saint-Domingue.

Are you sure that Tina Knowles ancestors are Haitian creoles? I'm from Louisiana and have Creole ancestry but none of them are from Haiti. They were African American negro and French from France mixtures. Actually, I don't know any Louisiana creoles who are of Haitian decent.

wow. history lesson needed here on the impact of Haitian revolutionaries in the south of US particularly Louisiana. We are all the same. Jamaicans may call it patois, haitians call it kreyol, spanish call it criollos and portuguese call it crioulo. But follow the history of slaves and revolters from Haiti (diasporan africans) and you will find ayiti all over it.

Last, Creole people from the Gulf have their own distinct looks which looks half black and white. Haitian people (if they look mixed) tend to look mixed with a lot not just bi-racial.

To add, Creole people from the Gulf are not Haitian decendants. Haiti is most often associated with Creole and the interviewer may be Haitian, but he was mistaken to choose Haitian Creole of the many country specific Creole's there are.
