The amount of electricity you use in your households does not change the amount of coal or hydro the power plant uses to produce electricity. They will keep pumping it out so that everyone and their dogs will have electricity with no shortages.

Turning off your lights in fact does not help besides saving you money. It doesn't cost the electric company anything more that what they would be doing anyway. Sorry to burst your bubble.

4 years ago I would have agreed. But now I think it's really more harmful than helpful because if we are content with empty gestures nothing real is going to change. What comes after the small steps? For which big steps does turning off the light prepare us? Because I don't see it.

They work with companies like reverb rock which greens tours, and their tour bus runs on bio-fuels. They leave a smaller carbon foot print than most. They are also out there spreading awareness and sharing knowledge with the world. At home they drive hybrid and electric and harness solar energy and actually feed back into the grid, ben harper for sure. what the hell do you do? quit hating and be happy someone in the public eye is acknowledging the earths condition. There are bigger problems.

Awareness is great. Seems like odd though. "Awareness" itself doesn't exactly solve a problem, especially when you're a music artist selling cd's (plastics that just end up in landfills), traveling across the country in a huge bus (burning fossil fuels like mad), and basically becoming a petroleum feen.
