Looks like I need to roll some better characters. I tried to kill those 3 wolves outside of town for like a half hour last night and they killed my party every time.
How close is this to Baldur's Gate? I hear it's basically the same thing except for the NPC dialogue. Is it kind of like BG1 where your party members barely talk?
@Biake22 So basically Baldur's gate has is more focused on the story more or less, while Icewind dale is more solely focused on combat, and like Tanit said BG has your PC's talk and you dont' roll your characters. soo yeah.
I started playing this game again after I found it while going through all of my stuff that was damaged in a flood we had. Good times. I only made 4 characters though; Cleric (Leader), Fighter, Fighter (multi'd to thief at level 2), and a Wizard - all human. Only thing I wish I could have done is got a better strength score for the Cleric - I always forget that they can wear plate, and 12 str really isn't enough for them when it comes down to that. But other than that, it's working well.
This game looks lovely. But sad enough the game is not for sale in my country anymore because it is 11 years old now. Even steam does not provide it. I found it at some online sites which i have to order from abroad. So i was going to ask if it would be appropriate to download this game since it is so old. I have the feeling they dont produce this game anymore, and all online sells are just copies or something else. Should it count as stealing if i download it? Please answer :)
You can buy it at amazon.co.uk for a very low price too. You can get Icewind dale I and II including their expansion packs for like 10 or 13 pounds. I bought it my self in order to remember the good old days(lost the original boxed game long time ago so I had to buy it again). Hope that helps out :o)
Greetings from scenic Ten Towns, where the winters are brutal, the giants are hungry for your flesh, the caravans are regularly waylaid by homicidal barbarians, and all the women smell like trout. Wish you were here.
Ahh, i remember playing Multiplayer (thru the main campaign) with my dad, damn that was sooo long ago, and i dont even know where our copy of the game is, i just hope i will find it and be able to play it again!
@mauriciofontes I'd suggest buying from GOG.com, has no DRM and the games are specifically made to be compatible with modern systems so even games that no longer run on Vista or Win 7 will run if downloaded from GOG.com
I got a problem, when i press "new game" on multiplayer it crashes!
I patched what i could find and still i got this problem, i would apreciate if someone could help me get a patch that solvesthis or some hints where to get something like that.
What's the difference between this and Baldur's Gate? Just a different story? I've also heard this has much less of a focus on dialog, and more on combat, is that true?
I've just bought the triple pack of these games, but I'm not going to start playing until I've finished reading the Icewind Dale trilogy books by R. A. Salvatore.
I'm only on the first book and it's really fun and exciting so far. :)
How does the mp actually work? Yeah i know this is a old game but i still have to finish it and since i've raised with Baldur's Gate and games like that i have to do it but if i can play the whole thing with my bro that would be cooler :)
@tanit still can't figure how some things works. I mean, in the sp game you can pause action with the spacebar to prepare the spells/attacks. Can you do it in MP? Plus, if i save and quit will i be able to play again adding some players that didn't play in the first place?
@Margalus89 #1. There are settings to decide who can pause, by default only the host can. But when me and my friends played we let anyone pause. #2. Yes, the saved game allows anyone to play the characters, and hot joining and swapping is possible.
1. how many characters should i create for the first game? I remember the game was hard and i've tried to create a warrior letting him go outside Easthaven alone and the second goblin one-shotted him(i killed only one). I'm going to play only with my brother so will two characters be enough? If not, are we able to control 3 and 3?
2. Is it normal that when my brother clicks "done" when choosing the "New game" option the game crashes? Never had problems with it
@Margalus89 I would recommend 6 - there is a level cap in icewind dale, and once you hit it a smaller party will become increasingly weak in relation to enemies. You can control 3 and 3, or any combination, yes.
Guys does anyone have a saved game for chapter 3 just before the larrel guy? I fucked up by killing him and his assistant by accident and can't reload cos was only using quicksaves and lost the autosave as well :(
I've been searching all day and haven't found another workaround. I don;t wanna have to start the game all over again, that would be too hard of a pill to swallow.
If so please reply and I will return by giving you good karma which will grant you many lays with hot partners.
@dwaynedibbly I do not have a save BUT you can export all of your characters and re-import them, you will have all the same gear and everything. Meaning you can quickly run through the game back to where you left off, because all of the monsters will be outmatched by you. Just go to the character screen and export all the characters, then import them when you start a new game.
@tanit true i thought of that but thing is the xp curve would be wonky then by the time i get back to level 3 as id prob be outmatched for the opponents having leveled up yet again by the time i got back to where I screwed up.
@CaptainHammerify Baldur's Gate is more story oriented, you only make the main character and recruit others along the way as the story progresses. Icewind Dale is more like an old school pen and paper adventure, whole lotta combat.
This was such an awesome game. I must have beat it at least five or six times. I still get creeped out at the museum level near the ending. Something about that place was odd...
I've been looking into Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate and I'm stumped as to which collection I would rather get. I'd likely get them both eventually, but which should I start off with? I know it's a matter of opinion really, but it'd be nice to hear yours. :)
@dementist58888 They are different types of games. Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 are more heavily dialogue and story driven - the Icewind Dale games are hack and slash versions of classical D&D gaming. I'd recommend starting off with the Baldur's Gate games. I also recommend you use the BGTUTU mod, which converts the BG1 campaign to use the BG2 engine, greatly enhancing graphics and usability. Happy hunting.
I don't know.. it's really annoying to record these games, so much so that I don't even want to play them while recording. If this vid had thousands of views I probably would. But probably not worth the labor.
