When in a recording studio, the drums are behind a shield not to save anyones ears, but to slightly deaden the sharp strikes on the drum heads. A lot of groups,when they play live will do this for the same reason, unless they are using electronic drums.
The glass cage was supposed to be a trap for Mike Love so they could catch him in order to stop having him ruin this great music
