I had heard of him but never listened to him before. What a lovely voice and we are so lucky it is still around. He is truly a master of his generation in Pakistan now the only one that I know of his caliber in the current generation of musicians. Thanks for this wonderful and an excellent recording.

Surmandal (or swarmandal - Sanskrit version of the name). From Hindu/Urdu "sur", for pitch or note. I've had the privilege of carrying that very surmandal for Shafqat to various mehfils in the San Francisco area a few years ago. It was a privilege to get to know such an exceptional singer. This video barely scratches the surface of his talent.
