.. no... that´s not correct.... he wants to marry the daughter of the queen of the northland.. and the queen tells him 3 tasks which he has to complete for marrying her daughter... he exists the 2 first.... and the last is to kill a swan on the river of death in the land of the dead (Tuonela) but when he wants to kill the swan he´s killed by a herder... but in the end his mother makes him alive again and he return from tuonela... :)

Because of the minor grammar mistake at the beginning ("I set out on a longest road"), it sounds like he's actually saying "I set out on a long ass road." Don't get me wrong, I love Amorphis, I just heard this the first time I listened to Silent Waters and found this absolutely hilarious.

An interpretation of the lyrics by someone would be appreciated.

I do not know the finnish mythology well, so I cannot say why he is killed just because of the lyrics.

However isn`t the protagonist killed by a snake? So it has been poison or the wound, which actually killed the protagonist.

P.S.I am not sure, wether my post is correct...

According to our national mythology the one who tries to harm a swan ( which is a sacred waterbird ) meets with a certain doom.

The one who kills Lemminkäinen ( "the guy" ) is actually a bitter laplander who strikes either a water-adder or a "shutpipe" trough his chest and fells him to the river Tuoni ( the arrow and the serpent part of the lyrics, shutpipe being a mighty magic stick made from copper or bronze ). After that the bloody son of Tuomi comes and hacks him to pieces with his sword.
