  • bodie was a smart ass pawn too...just not appreciated!

  • what about the bishop and knight

  • @whatsgoingon07 Pretty obvious that they are the soldiers, like wee-bey, bird, stickum, chris, snoop etc.

  • "Unless they some smart ass pawns" lol real shyt

  • Great scene.

  • Surprised they didn't find some explanation for the bishop or the knight. Still, this scene is classic!

  • man this is sad. It couldn't really get sadder. Thank you politicians for creating this situation. Thank you Protestantism for supporting those politicians. When will we stop this fucking witch hunt.

  • 1 person got checkmate...

  • It doesn't matter long Bodie lasted or how smart he was. In the end he was just another dead pawn

  • Poot made it to the other end, but decided to be a knight.

Slim is the pawn that made it to the other end.

  • @bonyoldbehind

Yo this deserves 1000000000 thumbs up straight up too bad I can only vote once, man.

  • @bonyoldbehind Kudos for your insightful comment lad, fuckin spot on.

Props for the account name as well - I do hope that's the Simpsons reference I think it is; if not then forget about it.

  • poot made it to the end but he dident win.

  • RIP all three of these niggas yo...my niggas

  • the difference between the king and pawn is that no matter where the king goes he will always be that..which equals to avon...in the streets or the jail avon was still the head of the operations and called shots

  • this metaphor is so fucking great!!

  • Slim made it to the other side.

  • It's not just the drug game that is like that - capitalism is one big pyramid scheme.

  • @FrogmortonHotchkiss The message of the series it seems to me is that all human endeavors are like this

  • @antipyrene Generosity exists.

  • This is so subversive.

  • @fckyoumotherfscker What do you mean 'warped and unrealistic'? Many of the characters and plotlines, and much of the dialogue, is lifted right out of life, according to the writers.

Also, your remark about the acting is indefensible.

  • This was the epitome of the entire show for the dealers and the cops.

  • R.I.P Di :(

  • is this some kind of metaphor?

  • Lol me any my fam' n friends had no checker board n we coudnt play chess but we had an old chess board so we used to set up and play checkers wit the chess board, then when i was 12 i got taught in some day centre place where i had 2 go and now i aint play checkers on a chess board lol, i play chess on it

  • The best television series ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!Period!....too bad it has been overlooked by other shows.....

  • If your looking for Omar, go find a corner boy that just shitted all over myself..............

  • 1 person can't play chess

  • You cant lose if you do not play. Probably the best line in the series. Why play a rigged game? You get lured in by the action but in the end you will have sacrificed so much just to fall victim anyway. Im talkn all games.

  • Hey, anyone who hasn't seen the show, or has yet to see the whole series, dont look anything up. Even titles of some vids on the sides spoil things, and comments for sure do. So be careful. Dont go on wikipedia at all. dont even look at anything related to this show, i know it may seem a little to careful, but it wouldve saved me a spoiler or two.

  • one of the best scenes in movie history

  • @MrGigel666 this is tv not a movie lmfao

  • Hooked after this scene.

  • omar's like when your dog or little sister or something comes up and knocks everything over

  • The greatest program ever made

  • the queen ain't no bitch

  • -_O Hi Uncle Barry......wink wink.

  • I miss Di :(

  • Easily the best thing ever happened to TV

  • All three dead before their 25th birthday...

  • 1 person is a bald headed bitch

  • You could see Bodie was going to take over the game, if he didn't get capped.

  • @DopiumWu no he wasent. marlo turned him out way before he even got capped. he was a good character though.

  • @jespnshifty yeah Bodie had more of an old-school Baltimore slinger-type mentality, Marlo was unlike anything they'd seen "the new cat who don't give a shit about the game or respect" or obviously human life. The way Chris and Snoop locked down the city with fear made Marlo nearly untouchable by anybody but the POlice. Bodie woulda been kingpin potential a decade before he was around.

  • Kinda like the movie "Fresh"

  • THE GAME IS THE GAME. ALWAYS!

    -AVON

  • @jacdc202 I just lost the game.

  • The king stay the king. There is no S

  • In the end , all of them died

  • All of the died

  • wat about the knight?...the infamous L move

  • smart ass writing

  • how do u get to be the king?

  • these scene is brilliant....never really looked at this what but the drug game is a lot like chess. even denzel said it in training day. "the shits chess it aint checkers". brilliant.

  • I like how this scene is set up. Wallace and D are sitting on what appears to be a couple of plastic grocery boxes, and the chessboard is this old piece of cardboard, not a classic wooden one. To me this emphasizes how things are at the pit, and what the 'soldiers' have to put up.

  • fter this i was addicted to this series. It also shows Bodie to be a smart little soldier.

  • @83UtrechtNL Same. This scene hooks you up. Yeah. And Bodie takes care of Bodie every time whether it be with crews or cops

  • this scene is the best scene in any series ever

  • Use this scene to introduce "The Wire" to anyone. It's all here, and it goes deep...writing, acting, directing, camera.

  • bodie is basically representation of most drug dealers highest they go is mybe owning there own block but for most is lower then that

  • @facewear77 tru!

  • He should have used the black piece to teach them.

  • Best scene in the wire.

  • Man, talk about a great analogy...WOW!

  • in the end Poot was the smart ass pawn.

  • @JackMoranRain i second that

the smart ass pawn would get the hell off the chessboard - as long as you're in play, your life is at risk.

Poot got out of the game, and sold sneakers instead. Bodie, Di Angelo and Wallace couldn't escaple, and paid dearly for it.

  • @filly255 Thanks for ruining season 5 for me (I just finished season 4, episode 10). I already knew about Bodie from reading comments and now I hear that poot ends up selling sneakers. urgggh!

  • @dwoodall8979 yeah, they basically threw away all the main charters from the first 2 season in the last 2 seasons, which kind of take's away from the first season when you watch it again. bodie really should of been either killed in season 1 or end up at the top with slim in the co-op. the way the just killed him off in season 4 made his whole character seem pointless. as for poot....lol.

  • @slimithy12 I just finished season 4. I actually liked the way they did it. I mean it's depressing but that's the way it is in real life. The chances of Bodie making it to the other side of the board were remote at best. I haven't watched season 5 yet, but apparently Poot gets out of the game but no more details about Poot please.

  • @JackMoranRain nah, he was just the lucky one.

  • @titsprojects I disagree. You see "The game is rigged, but you can not lose if you do not play". And in the words of Avon Barksdale to Slim Charles as Cutty left the game "He a man today...He a man".I know the scene in season 5 with Poot in the sneakers shop my seam like small pointless detail. As may the Avon and Marla/Bodie quotes. But remember "It's all in the details".

  • @JackMoranRain yeah...by default

  • Comment removed

  • @JackMoranRain No he wasn't.

  • @myfacesp Why do you say that?

  • Comment removed

  • @myfacesp i said in the end Poot was the smart ass pawn., and you said no he wasn't.

  • @JackMoranRain Poot wasn't no smar ass pawn. He got locked up and ended up leaving the game. If anybody was a smart ass pawn I'd say it was Bodie. He lasted the longest (taking dead and jail time into account) of the pit crew pawns, he always stood strong and did his job, didn't cause no problems. But even the smartest of the pawns don't live forever.

  • @JackMoranRain poot wasn't even on the board son..

  • RIP TO THE 3

  • wallace is fineee

  • Lol @ Bodie "What about them Lil bald-headed bitched right there"

  • "What about them little bald headed bitches right there ?" lmao CLASSIC.

  • Likable character - A shame all died

  • At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go back into the same box anyway.

  • unless they some smart ass pawns

  • My favorite scene from Season One. I wish television was still as brave to put something out as brilliant as The Wire.

  • but da crazy thing bout all 3 of dem is dat dey all got kilt, wallace kilt by bodie, d,angelo kilt in central bookings and bodie got kilt by marlo's crew datz a sign sayin only a few ni99az make it out da game alive

  • avon was the man he aint have but 4 years left to do man know your knowledege avon was king and marlo was temporary only because avon was locked up and wallace was good lil dope boy at 1st then got silly and on that shit and bodie took him out for stringer then stringer was the mastermind for the business and dangelo was that boy so loyal but yet soft he shouldve been out the game after that payback murder and wee bay was a muscle for real 100 ass nigga and bird muscle crazy who slipped on omar

  • slim charles is pretty much the same as chris in marlos crew

  • bodie was a smart ass pawn see how long he lasted in the game compared to others..

  • @18ou Bodie wasn't the smart ass pawn. Obviously he doesn't make it to the end. And he realizes it in his last episode talking to McNulty about how he's just a pawn.

The "smart ass pawn" was Slim Charles. He's the pawn who makes it to the end and runs shit at the end.

  • slim charles isnt a pawn hes muscle (really close to the king)... poot was a pawn who made it to the end because he got out the game...

  • @18ou Well they don't exactly analogize the knights or bishops (who are probably more like the muscle than pawns would be), but I think it's more than fair to argue the muscle are pawns too. Look at guys like Bey and Chris: they blindly obey any order, no matter how crazy, and then they take the fall (life in jail) when shit hits the fan, and they're out of the game.

If that's not being a pawn, nothing is.

  • @18ou

SMART CHOICE POOT MADE HE GOT OUT THE GAME THE END OF THE DRUG DEALING LIFESTYLE IS DEAD OR INPRISONMENT

  • Avon was the smartest hustler...he knew d game better than anyone, even though he was jailed he still had his name, respect and unlike prop joe his life....even though Marlow had his money and freedom, he was outta d game...and the game is the game!!!

  • Bodie had alot of heart though

  • You sound like an idiot.

Look at you, droppin names on the internet like the rat you are.

  • D'Angelo <3

  • Bodie doesnt get chess.

  • Well, we know now that Bodie wasn't a smart ass pawn.

  • "Pawns get capped quick, they be out da game early"

    He ain't lying!!

  • very good foreshadowing by the writer, most of us are pawns in life trying to make it to the end to be king or queen !

  • you mean queen.

A pawn can't be a king but you still made a good point.

  • R.I.P. D'Angelo

  • he was my favorite character!

One of the smartest hustlers on the show.

  • yO is everybody a fuckinq rat fuck or bitch to you.? Shut the fuck up man. Its a fuckinq T.V show. Fuck.

  • LOUDER!!!

  • yo ur a bum ass nigga i seen your comments on almost all videos about the wire and everybody hates you .....

  • @ousseynoundy

WHY DO I GIVE A FUCK IF ANYONE LIKES ME OR I NOT I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT A NIGGA THINK

KEEP HATIN YA BITCH ASS NIGGAZ

  • Internet gangsta at his best.

  • You must hate rats, cause YOU ARE ONE

  • @balltillifall890 thats spoilerrrr

  • @balltillifall890 Is it really necessary to write a comment on Youtube giving your respects to a FICTIONAL character on a scene in which has almost nothing to do with the way they die? Some people might have stumbled onto this vid with hopes of one day watching the show but no they won't because some schmuck who can't tell the difference between a living person and a character in a TV series decided to comment "R.I.P".

    Fucking Youtube comments sometimes...

  • The best scene of season 1. Capitalism + dope. All the same. This show was a schooling!

  • doe the king of the wire

    check his battles out

    doe of irs

    type and find the truth

  • This scene and the Bodie-McNulty scene right before Bodie dies are the two best (non-combat) scenes in the entire series, for my money.

  • Brilliant work by the writer's with this scene.

  • there was so much symbolism here

  • D'Angelo's and Wallace's death scenes were arguably the toughest scenes to watch from the entire series

  • what about stringer's death scene??? runnin for his life and all....

  • i agree i loved stringer just as much as the next guy...but u gotta admit he had it coming

  • man bodie death had me stuck for like 5 mins

  • I love bodie!!

  • This scene defines the Wire. That's what the drug game is all about. Making chess moves

  • What makes this scene so profound is a couple seasons later when Bodie...right before he gets killed, compares him and his boys to "them little bitches on the chess board" to Mcnulty. I love this show.

  • Really? I can't remember that... damn, I feel like I ought to watch the whole thing again. And again. I wish they didn't kill off Bodie... he had potential

  • the queen is the go get shit done piece

  • I would have thought they would have said "the pawns can be any mothafucka he wanna be except king" haha... always choosing a queen can somtimes be the wrong move.

  • Only if you record score per piece.

  • see how he looks at wallace when he says they get out early, and then bodie says unless they some smart ass pawns. Well this is what happens in the series isnt it. Clever stuff.

  • He is trying to break it down in a way they will follow.

  • BMORE ALL DAY

  • This scene is when I knew that The Wire was not going to be like any other show out there. Absolutely amazing. And so sad to watch knowing that none of them make it through the series.

  • Fucking amazing scene. All bow down to the greatness that was The Wire.

  • Selling dope and wholesale murder is one thing, but playing checkers on a chess set deeply offended D'Angelo's sense of propriety.

  • Now that's a funny comment.

  • Amazingly good stuff.

  • you can't be playin no checkers on no chess board YO
